Summary: Enjoyable Disney animated movie for young and old.
Review: This is an excellent DVD for both young viewers, and us older fans of the Disney animation studios. The characters are well rounded, and given excellent voice by Tony Goldwyn and Minnie Driver. The part of Kerchak is lent it's gravely tone by Lance Henriksen of Terminator, and Aliens. Don't miss Rosie O'Donnell either as Terk.

On the technical side the transfer to DVD is flawless. Video and audio are well synched with no drop outs or jumps. One small annoyance. The DVD forces you to sit through untold previews of up and coming Disney attractions, web sites, advertising, etc. You can only keep pressing your fast forward button to get to the end of them. Thankfully they seemed to have gotten away from that in later releases (Emporers New Groove)

Summary: More Than A Swinger
Review: I was not expecting much from this film...everyone knows the story of Tarzan & I didn't think much could be done to make it fresh & new. But I was wrong. The music & songs are fantastic & so catchy & are a vital part of the film as they help to carry the themes & story line. My 21/2 year old LOVED this film & insisted that we buy the CD which he listens to in the car, at home, in the bath...He now goes around singing all the tunes (I find myself doing the same). The songs are up & funky so you just can't help but sing along. The characters have spunk which appealed to my sons sense of the ridiculous. Jane is not a helpless female waiting to be rescued. The film adds more to the standard story of Tarzan by introducing other strong characters. It is a film about them as much as it is about Tarzan & Jane. The animation & colour is beautiful. You would swear it was real jungle footage rather than animation. The familiar Tarzan call is interestingly threaded into the film. I can't say enough of how impressed I am with this adaptation. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: One of the best Disney films!
Review: I have my list of favorite Disney films, and this one is in my top five, along with Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast. Everything about this film is great!

Summary: Spectacular animation - Great transfer to DVD
Review: This is without question the best animation Disney has ever done. Many of the scenes look almost as if they somehow blended live action video as background art. After viewing the horrible grainy video transfer to DVD Disney did with Pocahontas, you will definately appreciate the fantastic job Disney did on this DVD. The sound quality is also great, with THX no less. The story is wondefully written, although it may be a bit too intense for a child under the age of 5 or 6. Tarzan is a wonderful DVD that is well worth the investment.

Review: My 3 yr. old son and I watch this over and over. This is one of his favorite movies. (It takes alot to top Toy Story on his list, but this one comes close.)

Review: First I should tell you I am 54 and have been and continue to be an animation freak. This is the best that Disney has done in at least 40 years. I would say it is one of the top three they have ever done. The story sticks closely to the book. The animation style is a throwback to the days of Peter Pan which is a big plus. I love the look of the drawings. On top of that they use some very advanced techniques for motion that give the vine swinging scenes a roller coaster feel. Well done. The characters and scripting are great. The voices fabulous and the music outstanding.

Summary: Absolutely Magical
Review: This is a wonderful movie, and what's even better is that the spanish version is just as great. Often, dubbing is not done well, which is a shame, but you needn't worry about that with this movie, or most Disney movies (at least those that I have seen in Spanish).

Summary: Disney at their Best
Review: This movie reminds of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King. It truely is amazing and the story line is very good. It is fast paced and comical at the same time. This is one of Disney's new style DVDs with multiple audio tracks including DTS and loads of extras. Any fan of Disney will appreciate this DVD. One word of caution, this is not for the very young to view. My three year old was frightened by it early on and we did not allow her to see any more of it after the first ten minutes. I would suggest that no child under the age of 5 or 6 view this movie.

Summary: Wonderful Entertainment
Review: "Tarzan" is a beautifully drawn, amazingly animated film with catchy, "Can't stop humming it" tunes that the entire family will want to watch again and again.

Straying slightly from Disney's usual formula, the songs in this movie are not sung by any of the characters. Performed instead by the talented Phil Collins, the tunes are used more to enhance pivotal scenes.

Some intense fight scenes may make "Tarzan" off-limits for very impressionable younger children, but most kids seem to be able to take it in stride. After all, didn't we all see "Bambi" and live to tell about it? ;-)

One possible note of caution -- there are movie viewers out there who might not care for Rosie O'Donnell. If you are one, you may find her character quite annoying. However, if you can grit your teeth and get past it, the rest of the movie is well worth your time.

All in all, a terrific film to watch. Enjoy!

Summary: The Ultimate Disney DVD!
Review: First, let me start by saying that this review is not based strictly on the Disney Tarzan film itself, but rather on the whole of this "Collector's Edition". The film is just the beginning of why I consider this among the elite of Disney DVDs, and one of my personal favorites within my own DVD library.

If you love animation, study it, strive to work in the industry, or all of the above, this DVD is worth the money! The collection of items on Disc 2 is very impressive. It is not every day that you get the opportunity to peek into the minds Disney animators and see their development process. From early character sketches to conceptual paintings used to pitch the film, the Disney archives have produced a plethora of quality examples. Just flipping through the character development sketches for the adult Tarzan really shows the evolution of thought, and you can instantly see the first moment when a Disney animator captured the essence of Edgar Rice Burroughs creation and its eventual evolution to the final design by Glen Keane - priceless!

In addition, there are a host of features on production, actors, and the music. I got a big kick out of hearing Phil Collins "demo" takes, music not used within the film, and (of course) the various renditions of a selected song in the various languages necessary to release the film (Phil did a fine job of singing in languages he doesn't even speak!).

Overall, the best Disney offering with "extras" since the Laserdisc version of the Lion King. Oh, and the movie is great too! Buy it, immerse yourself, and enjoy.
