Summary: One of the best movies of all time
Review: I love Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I'm in high school, and i've loved this since the first time I saw it. THe music is amazing, the storyline is excelent and entertaing to all ages, and the animation is excellent (on the last ones before dinsey went to a much less life-like animation style). If you have any doubts about weather you should buy it or not, BUY IT!!!!!!!!

Summary: In response to "A VIEWER"
Review: This is in response to "A VIEWER." Have you ever watched this movie? Belle does not tolerate the abuse, the beast never hits her or anything. Belle does not like the beast at the beginning when he is out of control. Only after HE SAVES HER and she HELPS HIM do they start to get along. Once the Beast is KIND and shows that he DOES CARE for Belle, does she fall in love with him. Just because you haven't taken the time to really watch the movie, AND UNDERSTAND IT, PLEASE dont waste others time with your un-thought out review.

Summary: ...I think this has an amazing message
Review: You say that Belle endure abuse from the Beast but it wasn't because she loved him. She sacrificed her freedom for her father. She hated the Beast in the beginning and actually ran away. It wasn't until the Beast began to love her and to be kind to her that she began to love him back. This story tells you to look past appearences which is an amazing and very important lesson. I think that it is almost the most important thing anyone can learn. Belle is an intelligent and strong willed heroine and the Beast, once he begins to learn to love, is extremely sweet and learns that if you truely love someone you have to let them go. I think it has the best message of any Disney movie...

Summary: one of the beAst
Review: This movie is my favorite! I love the whole plot, the music, the characters.....and each character has the right voice. For example, the Beast's voice is sonorous, rich, deep...just how you'd imagine it! Belle's is sweet and feminine. The songs are awesome. I love to play the music on my flute. The theme song is my favorite. Everyone should have a chance to see this magical film. It's a definite classic! Have fun watching it!

Summary: A movie of unbelievable power...
Review: ...Here is an example of a woman who never actually watched the movie... just *assumes* she knows what it's about. Listen carefully: 1) Belle HATES the Beast. Why? Because he's ill-tempered, immature, violent. 2) Then the Beast learns to change... to control his temper. 3) THEN Belle falls in love with him. Belle is a smart, sophisticated woman. She turns her back on Gaston because he's "brash, boorish, and brainless" and she rejects the Beast for essentially the same reasons. But unlike Gaston, the Beast learns to change and to care for another person... THEN Belle starts to love him. And here we come to the reason why I love this movie so much. The characters have *depth* This is NOT a children's movie. This is an adult's movie. This movie deals with intelligent issues in a fun, entertaining way. Contrary to what the woman above thinks, Beauty and the Beast shows an attractive, intelligent, independent woman who KNOWS what she wants in a man and in her life. And it shows that "Beauty is not mere appearance... but comes from within" via the character of the Beast who learns to stop being selfish and to care for someone *more* than he cares for himself. These ideas may seem simple, but they are the foundation of human relationships, and if we all learned to embody these ideals of caring for others more than ourselves, I believe we would have a lot less strife in the world. This is a wonderful, timeless movie, and that's why when I gave away all my Disney movies to my nephew... I kept this ONE movie, Beauty and the Beast, on my shelf. Simply put, this movie is one of those rare movies that is worth keeping and watching again and again.

Review: ...the Beast is mean to Belle in the beginning, but Belle doesn't tolerate it. If she did, she would have went down to dinner when the Beast ordered her to. Belle has to be the most courageous Disney heroine out there. It's not until the Beast saves her from the wolves does Belle begin to start a friendship with him. And, she doesn't realize her love for the Beast until the end of the film. So, how could she possibly love the Beast to change him? The Beast changing himself in order for Belle to love him is more accurate. If I had a daughter, I would be proud if she patterened her life after Belle. She's a devoted and loving daughter to her father, she loves to read, she is independant, strong, brave and intelligent. What more could we want from our daughters?...

Summary: Special Edition-itis
Review: If you don't care to create a sequel or a remake of a much-beloved film, just add a new scene or two and re-release it as a "special edition." Of course, back in the days before video and DVD, most (though not all) theatrical re-releases consisted of the original film, without sizable additions or cuts. There's at least a certain integrity to that, and if any film deserved this sort of reverence, it would be the superlative animated feature _Beauty and the Beast_. As far as I'm concerned, the film's re-release in a large-screen IMAX format is more than sufficient reason to view it again. To be fair, all the "added scenes" in this special edition total only about four minutes in length. Most of that time is occupied with a big musical number ("Human Again") that pays homage to operetta, along with a brief exchange between Belle and the Beast. While the extra footage doesn't advance the plot, it doesn't detract from the film either. The only difference is that the perfectly economical storytelling of the original now feels just a wee bit padded. For my part, I would have been happier to see _Beauty and the Beast_ on a large screen without the additional footage. But better this version than none at all. So let's just say that this particular animated film has beauty to spare -- with or without the beastly surgical enhancements. BTW, the new "Platinum Edition" DVD promises to feature the original theatrical edition, the so-called "Special Edition," _and_ the Work-in-Progress version that earned raves at the 1991 New York Film Festival. It's an embarrassment of riches -- not that I mind.

Summary: Wrong message to kids
Review: This movie is my daughter's favorite Disney film. It is also the one animated Disney picture I will never own. The message in this movie is that your ill-tempered, immature, violent boyfriend will change if you just love him enough. I don't want my daughter or her twin brother to think that abuse on any level - verbal, physical, psychological, etc. (all of which Belle tolerates) is ever okay. Especially not in a kids movie. Haven't we learned YET that childhood - early childhood - is where seeds are planted??
