Summary: Well Warners did it again. Making Cheap DVDs.....
Review: It makes no sense to do two DVD disk sets that have the exact same cartoons on them. Unless of course, you are Warner Brothers, and you still don't get it that people don't want to buy the same films twice. Save your Money.

Summary: What a disappointment!
Review: Okay, WB, so I didn't buy the Golden Version. I'm sorry. But, geez...penalize me with this! I've never seen such a bare bones package as this, not even from the $2.99 direct-to-cutout-bin labels! C'mon, couldn't you have included just one or two actual gems? Hey, we're long-time fans of your stuff.
And we would liked to have at least seen the production years of the shorts listed along-side the titles. How much more ink would that have set you back?
But there would have been absolutely NO cost for LISTING THEM IN THE PROPER ORDER!!!
It's amazing at how fragile REPUTATION is, and how fast 50 years of it can nosedive!

(Disclaimer: My comments refer to the audio\video content and the packaging. I have not played this DVD in my PC...I seldom do that with any DVD. Maybe that's where I'll find that the "dazzling array of totally Looney DVD bonus features," to quote the product description, includes just a bit of historical information. Production years, for example. I feel, however, that this minimal information should be accessible without having to use the product on another device.)

Summary: I don't understand the logic
Review: Sure the cartoons have been lovingly remastered, but they haven't even picked the best cartoons from the Golden Collection, just issued the third and fourth discs. So, not only are you missing the classic cartoons that they left off of the Golden Collection, you don't even get the classic cartoons (esp. the Daffy-related ones on Disc 2) that *are* in the bigger set. If you're even thinking for a moment about buying this disc, don't. Save up for a month or two longer and get the Golden Collection instead.

Summary: a bad deal!
Review: The Golden Collection is a much better Looney Tunes DVD purchase! This set has fewer cartoons and no bonus features. Why bother??

Summary: The GOLDEN COLLECTION is a better family investment
Review: The introductory DVD release of vintage Warner Bros. animated shorts is now available in two forms: the highly recommended 4-Disc GOLDEN COLLECTION, and the present alternate 2-Disc PREMIERE COLLECTION, a spare and stingy serving of twenty-eight cartoons with no frills.

The majority of the classic cartoons included on the PREMIERE COLLECTION are artistically valuable. The cartoons are uncut, unedited, uncompressed and beautifully restored to their full original Technicolor glory. All the films included, even the weakest, deserve preservation, restoration and DVD availability.

But although the basic material is excellent, the PREMIERE COLLECTION is a poor presentation which I cannot recommend. This is why I have rated it only three stars out of five. (My rating for the GOLDEN COLLECTION, found elsewhere on Amazon.com, is a solid five stars.)

The selection spans two decades (1940-59) and includes the initial films of the Road Runner ("Fast and Furry-ous"), Marvin the Martian, the Tasmanian Devil and the Academy Award-winning debut of "Speedy Gonzales". Key films of such popular characters as Seymour & Tweety, Pepé Le Pew, and Foghorn Leghorn are duly included, along with a few one-shots and curios.

Buyers expecting a cavalcade of favorites need to be aware that the PREMIERE COLLECTION features a mere handful of appearances of the true stars of the Looney Tunes galaxy. You will look here in vain for an adequate selection of classic Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig cartoons. Such masterpieces as "Duck Dodgers in the 24-1/2 Century", "Long-Haired Hare", "Rabbit of Seville", "Rabbit Fire", "Rabbit Seasoning", "The Scarlet Pumpernickel" and "Wabbit Twouble" are to be found only on the GOLDEN COLLECTION.

The so-called PREMIERE COLLECTION is simply a partial reprint of Discs Three and Four of the vastly preferable GOLDEN COLLECTION, with the many extras removed. The first two discs of the GOLDEN COLLECTION are not included with the PREMIERE COLLECTION.

The 4-Disc GOLDEN COLLECTION, with its fifty-six cartoons and hours of supplemental extras, which are both entertaining and educational (hint to parents), is worth more than its cost in dollars and is an infinitely better investment for families than this cheapjack alternate. The PREMIERE COLLECTION is kiddie fodder for the undiscerning bargain-store shopper and ought to please thoughtless families who want to add a touch of class to their video library. Obviously, small children will be unaware that they are being cheated but then they will be unable to appreciate the artistry and sophistocated humor of these films anyway. Otherwise, THE LOONEY TUNES PREMIERE COLLECTION is to be avoided by anyone concerned with popular art and culture. High sales of the superior GOLDEN COLLECTION will determine future releases, so fans and students of classic animation are strongly urged to buy that instead. Parents desiring that the heritage of Bugs Bunny and friends continue to be made available to their children and grandchildren might also keep this in mind when choosing between the lesser and the greater.

And, by the way:

Summary: Not for Enthusiasts; Perfect for Others
Review: The Premiere Collection is not for hardcore collectors, just folks who want a crisp, clean collection of 28 classics. Ignore those who accuse WB of greed -- not that I'm a fan of parent AOL, but they clearly offer this as an alternative, not addition or attempt to swindle. Only a maroon would think otherwise.

Summary: No thanks
Review: The reviewer "Paulo Liette" is completely wrong. This set might be affordable, but it is a RIP-OFF! You can get this stuff off of TV for FREE. Just buy the Looney Tunes Golden Collection, there is stuff that's not on TV on that set. The PREMIERE COLLECTION DVD is a waste of money, you will regret buying this terrible DVD set! This is one of the worst releases of classic cartoons on DVD ever.

Summary: Why not spring for the Golden Collection instead?
Review: There are a few stand out classics on this 2 disc set, but they're all included on the far superior "Looney Tunes Golden Collection." In a shameless and misleading attempt to sell more Looney Tunes DVDs, Warners packaged this 2 disc set twice. I will say that the cover art and packaging for the 2 disc set is much more attractive than the clip art Golden Collection art. Save the extra few bucks and buy the 4 disc Golden Collection instead!

Summary: Why all the negative reviews?
Review: There is a purpose to this DVD set being necessitated....it is called a budget. Those who have limited money to expend on DVD's may want some classic cartoons in their library, yet not want to spend a ridiculous amount on a box set.

As a result, WB has released this excellent compilation of cartoons...a scaled down release of the Golden Collection. I, for one, am thrilled at this option, as it gives me the funds to add other cartoons to my collection, in addition to the Looney Tunes.

The transfers are excellent, and about my only complaint is that the cartoon listing on the box does not match the order of the segments on the discs.

However, if you want a sampling of Looney Tunes in your collection, but are on a budget...this is a great way to go.

Summary: Third Tier Cartoons at Best
Review: These cartoons are among the least effective (and least endearing) cartoons in the Warner Bros fold. None of the classics are here, unless you consider _any_ cartoon with the classic Warners characters a classic. These will only delight young children who've never seen the best of the best. I felt horribly cheated with this collection. Warners clearly wants to make as much money as possible, but they are doing it by issuing the least funny, least delightful cartoons they made in the 40s and early 50s. If you're a cartoon fan, avoid this one.
