Rating: Summary: Cute, but I wouldn't buy it. Review: The mischievous charm is missing in this cute but mundane followup to Lilo & Stitch. It makes for a fun rental, but I would avoid buying this video/dvd--if you do, you'll find out in the "Coming Attractions" that you've basically bought the pilot for the upcoming Saturday morning cartoon series. In the ad for the series, you discover Lilo and Stitch will basically spend the run of the series pursuing the 625 experiments released in "Stitch." In a sentence, rent the pilot, then watch the series.
Rating: Summary: Not the Original. Review: ... The straight to home video film does not have the same quality animation as the first, nor the great lines of dialogue, but it does have all of or at least most of the original casts voices. The new villain (Dr. Hamsterveil) has a voice that reminds me of the French characters from Monty Python's Holy Grail... This film is intended strictly for the children where as the last one was made with adults somewhat in mind. The DVD itself has little to offer in extras as well.
Rating: Summary: direct to video should have been direct to toondisney! Review: my four year old REALLY loved Lilo and Stitch so I got her this movie for her birthday. What a disapointment! Flat animation, dull plot, NO MUSIC TO SPEAK OF, just a very dull production. This movie was saved from 0 stars only because that rating is not available. The whole thing is just an expensive (relative to quality) trailer for the new Disney channel cartoon series. Seems to me Disney is trying to cash in on the (fading) popularity of Pokemon, and they don't even try to hide it. The movie box includes a sheet of all the 625 stitch "cousins" so the children can keep track of them, even though the movie includes only two of them. hmmm....wonder where they can see the rest? only toon disney knows for sure......
Rating: Summary: Wait for the TV series and don't waste your money Review: This DVD is meant to introduce the Lilo and Stitch TV series scheduled to air later this fall, so it was no big surprise that it was produced by the Disney Television Animation guys. Now, our daughter is a big fan of the original movie, and after watching the DVD with her the 137th time (she insists that either her daddy does or I do), I grew to know all the characters intimately, including the minor ones like Myrtle (the little girl with red hair and glasses who didn't accept Lilo's apology and whose trike Stitch commandeered) and the hula teacher. I didn't have high expectations for this DVD (my husband always warns me of any release that's straight-to-video), but I was really disappointed that NONE of the characters (and believe me, they all make an appearance in this video) retained their soul. Lilo is now brattier than ever, even though at the end of the movie you get a sense of her growing up with what she's gone through, and you get a feeling that she'll be a lot more emotionally secure with her new-found 'ohana. Stitch is portrayed to be bumbling (I guess he's supposed to be funnier that way?) and just plain MEAN. :( But my biggest complaint is how they portrayed David. Whereas in the movie he is a laid-back surfer dude with a heart, in this sequel he's a laid-back surfer dude with an ATTITUDE. What's up with that? He CAN be cool and still care about what's important to Nani, who he intends to marry, right? It's a big surprise that Chris Sanders, who's Stitch's "dad" and co-wrote and co-directed the original movie with Dean DeBlois, still voiced Stitch in the sequel. Actually, all the voice talents from the original movie worked on this sequel. The story is very formulaic (think Pokemon with a very predictable villain --- a napoleonic hamster who has name issues ala Gene "Franken-steen" Wilder). My daughter wouldn't see the whole 64 minutes of this sequel (she gets tired after Jumba's ship parachutes down from "outer space" conveniently enough, right onto Nani's back yard on the tiny island of Kauai --- aaargh!), even though she has sat through the original movie 137 times. I, however, saw the sequel twice from beginning to end, and was sorely disappointed both times. It seems like the crew who adapted the movie for the TV series didn't really get how much love went into the original movie. They flattened the characters emotionally so they're just now one-dimensional, the physics are just plain wrong (see parachuting from outer space above), and they didn't even adhere to the standards of drawing the characters (the proportions are glaringly out of whack --- notice how small Jumba's head has gotten). My advice? Don't buy this DVD and just wait for the series this fall (this DVD is structured like the first 2 or 3 episodes anyway). Even the four-dollar rebate (if you have the original DVD or VHS) won't make this a good buy. It's definitely not worth the $$$ list price!
Rating: Summary: Warning: Prepare to be Disappointed Review: Disney should be ashamed of this half hearted release that it has brought out in record time to fleece well intentioned parents out of $$$. The original film was one of the most vibrant and endearing productions we've seen from Disney in years and one of the treasured films in the family library that I am never hesitant to see tossed in the machine. With a direct to video release you always expect the production values to lag from the original, but with a full returning cast of voice talent I expected that to be limited to the animation's quality. Instead families expecting to see charmingly developed characters and witty humor are subjected to a hackneyed plot and stale characterizations that bear no resemblance to the original's almost believable cast. I am personally ranking this one in the Ishtar hall of shame and have already relegated the DVD to the circular file under the kitchen sink. Your children do not deserve to be exposed to such mindlessness and neither do you. Rent it if you must, but if you and your children loved the original purchasing this one will leave you feeling cheated.
Rating: Summary: A major letdown! Review: We loved the original Lilo & Stitch, and were eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel. We have been sorely disappointed, to say the least. First off, the great animation of the original is gone -- although the style has been copied, the colors are muddy and the black outlines are too stark. It looks like they let the 3rd or 4th string animators hack away at this. The story also lacks the fun of the first one -- they rehash the "owana" thing so many times it becomes a parody of what they put forth in the original. Most disappointing to my 6 year old, though, was the fact you only see 2 of the other "experiments" -- one they call "Sparky" and one that makes sandwiches -- that's it. The ending is blatantly set up to promote the "series" that Disney is putting on TV. Add an unimaginative musical score, poor plot, and extremely short running time, and this one is completely avoidable. I wish Disney would stop trying to cash in on their successes with crummy, straight to video sequels (Tarzan, Atlantis, etc). It smells of greed and leaves you bitter over your $$$ lost on a bad DVD.
Rating: Summary: Great Fun Movie For The Family! Review: This sequel to Disney's Lilo And Stitch defintley pays up. There is alot of great fun new characters, action, and comedy. Everyone in the family will love it! I defintley recommend all the mommies to buy this for their kids and the entire family for that matter.
Rating: Summary: Wow! This is a great sequel. Review: Unlike most Disney sequels, this one is actually good. It has all the returning voices. The animation isn't as good as the first but that shouldn't keep you from seeing it. The jokes are funny and the new characters are gret, especially Dr. Hamsterviel.
Rating: Summary: Stitch movie Review: This wasn't at all like the original "Lilo and Stitch" movie. This one sucked, luckily we rented it before considering buying it. It was all about aliens like Stitch, not about Lilo and the Hawaiian culture. I guess that's why it's called the Stitch Movie. It really is all about Stitch, and his alien friends from his same planet. My two girls hated the movie, but on the other hand, my son loved it. I am so glad I rented it before just jumping into buying it. I know sequels aren't as good as the first, and this is definately the case here.
Rating: Summary: DISNEY MEETS POKEMON Review: Just a year after the pastel splash of Lilo & Stitch, Disney revisits Hawaii to bring us the direct to DVD film Stitch! - The Movie. While this is an enjoyable little short (just 64 minutes long), it's real purpose seems to be to set up the upcoming Lilo & Stitch - The Series on the Disney Channel and ABC Kids. With at least 627 experiments (Stitch being 626), it seems like Disney is moving into Pokemon territory. We'll see. Anyway, if you liked L&S, you'll like this DVD. Be sure to check out the Men In Black parody (complete with Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn Theme - that's SpyHunter for those of you younger then me). For Monty Python And The Holy Grail fans, they've seemingly retooled the French Taunter into Dr. Hamsterviel (sorry, no umlat on my keyboard) to play the heavy. A little something for everyone.
