Summary: Nice music, poetic writing, but the kids were miscast.
Review: This film has a beautiful style with great photography, great music and a poetic writing style(typical of Ray Bradbury)and the movie really lights up when Jason Robard's character confonts Johnathon Pryce's villian. But,unfortunately the children are hopelessly miscast and have no presence at all, therefore there is no reason to care about their characters. This spoils an otherwise good film. The ending was refilmed(ordered by interfering Disney executives)despite the director's objections and seems to clash with the rest of the films poetic style.

Summary: The perfect Halloween movie
Review: Something Wicked This Way Comes is a movie that the whole family can watch for Halloween. It will scare kids, but who cares, I grew up with Disney animated movies with villains that terrified me(Sleeping Beauty's villain for instance was heavily satanic in look). This movie also has terrific special effects, and a great cast with Jason Robards and Johnathen Pryce. The best part: the library.

Summary: So good I bought the DVD
Review: This is the best adaption of any Ray Bradbury work to film. That is what happens when you let the author write the screenplay. If you enjoy Bradbury works, and are afraid of the dark you will love this film. The book is great for reading at 3am in the morning. Not for young kids, but still enjoyable as an adult. Another adaption of the story was called "The Black Ferris" and appeared on the TV Series -The Ray Bradbury Theatre-its ok-but watch the film instead!

Summary: Fabulous Tale of "the autumn people"
Review: This movie is like a Twilight Zone Episode. It depicts an America we really aren't anymore, but we wish we were.....the small town, the family structure etc etc. I love Jason Robards in this movie, he is really moving and effective. Spiders fall from a boy's ceiling, a carnival comes to town whose leader is called "Mr. Dark", corpses in coffins melt and autumn leaves blow in this classic Bradbury story. Its a great family film for Halloween. I have happy memories of watching it as a youth with my family.

Summary: Something Great this way Comes.
Review: Ray Bradbury wrote the Screen-Play, based on his novel. This film is Disowned by Disney, Anchor Bay Entertainment is Digitally Remasted, Disney`s and Universal, these two studio give away the rights to the films, don`t want to Re-relase on Video or on DVD,Anchor Bay is Producing These films on Video and on DVD.

Johantan Pryce(Brazil,Torrorow Never Dies) in a Dark Performance as Mr Dark. Jason Roberts(Parenthood,Quick Change) is always great as Usual. Pam Grier(Jackie Brown) as Miss Beautiful in a good and strange role. Vidal Peterson as Will Halloway and Shawn Carson as Jim Nightshade in a Good Performances. Royal Dano(House 2) as Tom Fury and Diane Ladd(Wild At Heart) in Small Supporting Performances.

Strange Disney film to be sure.

This film is great in some way but there`s is no surprise on the plot but Thanks to a Well-Written Screen Play by Ray Bradbury,A Good Cast and Directed By Jack Clayton help this film work, Highlight-James horner(Aliens,48hours,Titanic):Terrific Score is Great and Some of the Film Visual Effects. Grade:B+.

Summary: One of my favourites!
Review: I have watched this film every October since it first came out on video, so you can see what a fine piece of work I think it is. The opening scenes perfectly sum up the spirit of autumn for me: the narration (accompanied by James Horner's wistful and beautiful score) along with the photography of the October landscape conjure up a rather melancholy longing for the past. There are some great scenes showing the different ways people deal with their own private sadnesses and regrets. (And it makes you think, if the dark carnival came to your town, what would you wish for? On which longings of your own would the carnival feed?) The film is particularly suited to viewing in October, but it isn't a Halloween story, and can be enjoyed year-round. Watch the film, but by all means view the LETTERBOXED version! Even though the black bands on the top and bottom of the screen are minimal (the film wasn't shot in a very widescreen aspect ratio), the letterboxed edition shows much more of the original film frame than does the standard tv version--it makes a big difference (I've done a direct comparison of the two versions)...Highly recommended!

Summary: "SWTWC" ... Teaching Allusion & Symbolism!
Review: For several years I have taught allusion, allegory, irony, and symbolism using "SWTWC" as a source to tie in all of these literary techniques together, as well as including the other more basic techniques. My students love having to decide what item is more harmful -- the Mirror Maze, the ferris wheel, or the carousel; which person is evil, only second to Mr. Dark; just how the carousel itself works -- is it making people older or younger at the whim of Mr. Dark or do these people have more "riding" on this carousel than just what they hope for; and how the Mirror Maze is able to reward individuals, yet turn around and punish them for those dreams. This movie is one which catches the imaginations of my students so that their own writing activities grow more fascinating as they try to include as much imagery and symbolism as they can!

Summary: Traditional autumn tale of fear without the gory details
Review: This is the perfect autumn tale of good against evil. The story is excellent with special effects and acting to match. The film demonstrates all the common fears of regret though the eyes of two adolescent boys. It is a prefect film for a night of Halloween fun and fright, but I would not recommend it for young children. This film stirrs many memories of my youth and of the autunm season with blowing leaves and grey, cool days.

Summary: Classic story of good vs. evil
Review: I saw this movie upon it's debut in theaters several years ago and it remains one of my all time favorite horror films. A classic story of good vs. evil. In this case, evil comes in the form of Mister Dark and his Pandamonium Circus.Your every desire can be fulfilled, but, at what cost? This film is a must see for young and old alike.

Summary: surprising
Review: I was so impressed as a child that this is a favorite still. Disney took a chance and provided a surprising thriller.
