Summary: Disney introduces a new Princess
Review: THE PRINCESS DIARIES is a great example of a strong film that eventually unravels itself into a lesser accomplishment. At its heart, the story is another telling of MY FAIR LADY. (Or PYGMALLION for the elders amongst us...) Its only appropriate that Disney cast Julie Andrews as the queen. After all, she was the Original Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady and made quite a stir in Disney's Mary Poppins. The first hour of the film is charming as the queen meets teenage Mia and instructs her in the way of living as royalty. Anne Hathaway is just splendid as the young girl who sees herself as 'invisible'. Her comic sensibility is just as fine-tuned as her dramatic work. Especially under the hand of Garry Marshall (PRETTY WOMAN). But an awkward thing occurs. In an effort to seem complete, the filmmakers put in scenes that seem forced and weaken the audiences resolve. There was actually a point were audience members went on their popcorn runs to fight the boredom. These scenes involve Mia getting caught kissing the wrong boy and getting caught by photographers. Then, her enemies set her up to get caught naked at a party and , you guessed it, caught by photographers. Each was a weak and inappropriate road of conflict for a family film with the words "Princess" and "Diaries" in the title. In fact, there is little to no resolution because of those specific problems. So, in closing, I found the film very enjoyable with the exception of a 20 minute stretch halfway through the film. But the end of film payoff does wonders to restore the excellent quality. And in the grandest tradition of Princess films, they all live happily ever after... and plan for a sequel.

Summary: A good movie, but not like the book
Review: ....Under the tutelage of the queen, Mia transforms into Princess Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, and finds out who her true friends are. While the movie is just as good as a book, they are very, very different. Most of the characters' names have been changed, for example, so it's hard to follow if you've read the book-- you think that Mia's mom is dating [a certain someone], but then it turns out to be [someone different]. Also in the movie, there are many subplots, .... My best advice: read the book, see the movie, but treat them as completly different pieces of literature.

Summary: A must see!
Review: This movie was great for kids and adults. It is a great family film. It shows children the true meaning of real friends. Although the story line is unrealistic, it has many real life situations in the movie. It shows people mistreating others due to what they look like and shows them ending up regreting what they did. I believe my daughter got a lot out of this movie besides a few laughs! I recommend it to everyone!

Summary: Fun and exciting!
Review: Great film for anyone. Doesn't have all the [junk] that new movies have. It is clean and awsome. It is a family film. You don't have to fast forward any parts or close your eyes. You can just sit back and enjoy. I can't wait to buy this video when it comes out. I already bought the sound track.

Summary: Amazingly Priceless
Review: I went to see this movie last night with my best friend. There were so many laughs. I went to this movie thinkg that it would be a touching, teary movie and it wasn't. The previews showed a lot of the good parts but it left the best ones out. In the preview you see her hit the ball and it hits one guy where it counts, you wonder "why, what significnce is this to the movie?" Watch it and see. This movie is great for people of all ages. I would willingly paid full price to see it again. Go and see it and laugh and cheer and just have fun. :

Summary: Fun and entertaining- gorgeous panorama of San Fran!
Review: Based on the novel of the same name by Meg Cabot, "The Princess Diaries" tells the story of Mia Thermopoulos, a girl just weeks shy of her 16th birthday, but feels she has little to celebrate. She's tall, with thick and wild curly hair (which I thought was gorgeous)and is painfully shy. Mia's big crush Josh Bryant (Erik von Detten) barely knows she's there, and to make matters worse, is dating Lana Thomas (singer Mandy Moore), the head cheerleader and ringleader in tormenting Mia.

Mia's single mom (Caroline Goodall, from "Hook", "Disclosure", and recently in the cable TV miniseries "The Mists of Avalon")informs her that her Grandmother wants to meet her. Bewildered, Mia agrees. Little did she expect to find that her absentee Grandmother (Julie Andrews) is the Queen of Genovia, and that she (Mia) is a Princess. Mia agrees to get made over and take some ettiquette lessons from her Grandmother and her Italian stylist (comedian Larry Miller), who transform her into a straight-haired, made up glamour gal. Mia is warned not to breathe a word of her true indentity to anyone before the grand ball (where it will be officially announced). But somehow, it gets leaked to the press and Mia is now hounded by news cameras at school and "so-called" new friends. Josh has suddenly asked her to a big beach bonanza (shock-horror!)and Mia is giddy with happiness. She soon discovers, however, that Josh is seeking his 15 minutes of fame and ends up in the papers, humiliated.

Mia has a big decision to make- is she really cut out to be the heir to the throne? If she can't even keep her face out of embarassing situations in the news or fumble over her self at dinner parties, how can she rule a country? Most kids her age should be grappling with acne and praying for a car on their 16th birthday! While mildly predictable, I thought this movie was fun and energetic, mainly thanks to the brilliant decision to cast Anne Hathaway as the lead. She is funny, charming and wise beyond her years. I love Garry Marshall films, and I love the fact that he uses the same people. Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman) is Mia's limo driver and protector, and gives her sage advice such as "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". Overall, lots of fun, no matter how predictable other reviewers say it is. I'm thrilled to see a teen movie that isn't about gratuitous sex (i.e. American Pie, et al). Don't go by what others say. See the movie and judge for yourself.

Summary: Take the kids and the kid in you
Review: A feel-good movie to enjoy. Leave your cares elsewhere and enjoy.

The story is Cinderella with a twist.

The performers are interesting. Julie Andrews is perfect casting. Anne Hathaway may be older than her character's 15, but is a first-class star in the making (if she doesn't screw up). But the movie is held together and given solidity by the always-superb Hector Elizondo who director Garry Marshall uses in all his movies.

It's a confection to enjoy and relax with.

Summary: To die for!!
Review: I think this is a great movie because Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are just great actors and it has a great plot. It really was hilarious. I could tell other people really liked it hearing echoeing laghter around the theator and smiles as they walk out. It's charming and if you have a good sence of humor you'll love it too. Some people may relate to it. It is about an outspoken unpoplular girl changed into a pretty young lady. She has her flaws as a princess(who said it's easy to be proper?)but in the end it doesn't seem to matter. Espcially when you have friends to help you through it.Enjoy!

Summary: This movie was funny, witty and charming!
Review: I absoltuly adore "The Princess Diaries." Anne Hathaway was terrific and I found myself identifying with her! The experience of going to see this movie was fun filled and full of laughter. The entire audience found themselves experiencing each dilema right along with her and cheered at her successes. I would recomend this to anybody who is a fan of seeing a bright, intelligent young girl find herself in stressful situations, but like a true princess, coming out on top! Experience the magic that only a Disny movie could give!
