Summary: Sister Power!
Review: Sister Act can easily be classified as one of the 90's better comedies filled with laughter that can surpass the likes of most movies out today. Whoopi Goldberg is as always hilarious and portrays Delores Van Cartier, a naive lounge singer who's boyfriend is a married mafioso (but she doesn't know this), and later she witnesses a murder commited by him which caused her to run to the police, who in turn stashed her in a church in San Francisco against her will. Mother Superior (Maggie Smith) takes her into the church, and discuises her as a nun with a phony alias: Sister Mary Clarence. The trouble comes later when Mother Superior doesn't like the decision to transform the out-of-tune (she improves their vocal skill) nun's choir into a funky retro 60's girl group. If you want a hilarious comedy, filled with laughter a minute, I will recommend this.

Summary: A laugh a minute.....
Review: Sister Act is a comedy, but it also touches on some deeper issues, as in religion. Whoopi plays the part of a nun, yet is really a lounge singer who is forced to hide out from her boyfriend (who is a member of the mob) because she sees a murder.

Since she can't seem to keep a low profile, she is finally sent to join the choir. She ends up taking over and turns a rather tone-deaf choir into a soulful chorus of singing nuns. This in turn gives her TV exposure and her sudden celebrity status jeopardizes her safety.

At first I felt that the first part of the movie was slightly anti-religion, by the end of the movie you realize that the message is not to keep your beliefs to yourself, but rather to "live what you believe." Believing in God is not dreary, you are singing to the creator of the universe. Whoopi brings her joyful spirit to this comedy.

Review: Sister Act is the story of a woman stuck at a convent through the witness protection program. The movie is funny and upbeat. The songs are deffinetly the best! They keep me singing them all day long.

Summary: Not what it could have been.
Review: The idea of Goldberg's character posing as someone she's not, is a very overused one by now ("Ghost", The Associate", etc.) This movie takes an o.k. premise, but eventually gets too much tangled up in song & dance. -And that's where the problem lies; this couldn't happen in real life, there's nothing for her to do there, so the filmmakers clearly went the "clever" way (read: easy), and had Whoopi do her stuff. If they'd skipped all the musical acts, and gone for a more serious approach, they might have had an interesting film. There is a plus, however: the brilliant Joseph Maher is marvellous as always. -His role should've been bigger, but he's a favorite actor of mine, so the movie scores with me because of him.

Summary: SISTER ACT
Review: This 1992 is one of the best comedy movies ever! Ever! You can never get tired of Whoopi Goldberg as Las Vegas lounge singer, Delories Van Cartier who becomes Sister Mary Clarence. Deloris witnesses a murder by her married boyfriend (played by Harvey Kietel) and under Reno police orders, she hides out in a covent in san Francisco, California. While there, she goes by the name, Sister Mary Clarence and learns how to adjust to life as a nun and also uses her Las Vegas lounge singing experience to teach her follow nuns in the chior how to sing together as a group.

I loved this movie from beginning to end and is my No. #1 comedy movie of all-time! The center square from the Tom Bergeron-hosted game show, Hollywood Squares (1998-2002) was absolutely hilarious here and so was the whole movie! You will love "SISTER ACT"! Kathy Najimy, Maggie Smith and Mary Wickes also star.

Summary: You Can't Ban Me is wrong
Review: This is a classic disgrace of a movie by Whoopi Goldberg, one of the suckiest actreses of our time. Much to the previous reviewer's chagrin, people who dislike her know real talent like Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison(so we are not racists). It was RIGHT of Slim Fast to dump the greedy tyrant Goldberg from their ads after she made some candid remarks about the president. Anyway, this film is a masterpiece of garbage. I have zilch respect for Whoopi and despise everything she does.
