Summary: Funny- if its your kind of funny
Review: I didn't laugh enough give this movie any more than 2 stars. I watched it again 2yrs later and still didn't care much for it. Too bad, because I really like Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss. I dont fault the actors as much as I fault the script. There are variations of humor out there; some more appealling than others. Kind of like the difference between Jay Leno and Dave Letterman's humor.

Summary: Frank Oz's Funniest Movie Of All Time
Review: 'What About Bob' was probably the funniest movie I'd seen since 'Stakeout', ironically which also starred Dreyfus. Although Bill Murray's childish neurosis is sometimes annoying, the movie is 'made' by Murray's and Dreyfus' clashing eccentric personalities..(Do I get my Doctorate yet?). Dr. Leo Marvin is the successful phychiatrist who recently publishes his own book and relishes in it's success and 'Good Morning America's interest. Own his way out to vacation, he is handed the case of an obsessive loon (Bill Murray) who refuses to let Dr. Marvin's vacation convince him that their sessions are on hold. Its hilarious watching Dreyfus' patience slowely wear thin as Murray delights his family and 'Good Morning America', and consequently ruins Leo's career and sanity. Think of the old cartoons when Elmer Fudd uses everything from little round bombs to guns in order to get rid of that old rabbit, but instead everything winds up backfiring. That is the comic feel of this well-acted great movie that if you ask me, was so good because of Richard Dreyfus' performance. I particularly like the big bomb scene when Leo decides to resort to 'Death Therapy', exciting his pestering patient with thoughts of a cure..oh Lord, this had to be one of the funniest movies ever. It does'nt matter what kinds of movies you like, this will make you laugh histerically by the third time you hear "BOB!!!".

Summary: Love/Hate Relationship
Review: I have a love/hate relationship with this movie. I love it because it is Bill Murray at his best. By this time in his career, Murray had become simply the funniest person on the planet-and he's a Cubs fan- so what's not to love, right?But I hate the movie because I am in the ministry. And I've come to realize there are many, many people like Bob. "I need! "I need, Dr. Marvin. Gimme gimme." And so everytime I watch this movie I have a bad habit of associating the 'Bobs' in my life with the Bob of the movie. But still, this is one heck of a rich, funny and insightful movie. And I can watch it and laugh until I hurt, but I will have a miserable day tomorrow. ...and no, I don't like Neil Diamond's music.

Summary: An entertaining lighthearted comedy
Review: Ah, when screenwriters don't need to rely on swear words. Richard Dreyfuss and Bill Murray utilize there talents in a great family film. Although rated PG for some language (Murray as a tourette in the days before it was recycled), this is a good family movie. It stars Bob (Bill Murray), a patient of Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss). Bob follows Dr. Martin to his vaction house with unpredictable results. Although so much talent in one film means big budget bomb usualy, every star uses his or her talents as an asset to the film, not the marketing. This is good, not great, like a Friday night pizza movie (I didn't mean that in a bad way). Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. Summary: A hilarious comedy
Review: It helps to have known a mental health professional to fully appreciate this classic comedy farce. Richard Dreyfuss brilliantly plays it straight as the terminally uptight Dr. Leo Marvin, a psychiatrist who is driven crazy by his incredibly instrusive patient, Bob Wiley, played by Bill Murray in his usual comic style. Good supporting work by Charles Korsmo and Kathryn Erbe as the doctor's children. This is one of my favorite movie comedies ever.

Summary: A superior comedy!
Review: I don't know who is funnier, Bob or the psychiatrist (I can't spell obviously) but really I don't care. This movie is great no matter when you see it, or how many times you see it. Plus these are characters you can relate too. You must see this movie. The story is pretty simple. Bill Murray stars as Bob Wiley, a manic who invades the life and family of Dr. Leo Marvin, a psychiatrist played by Richard Dreyfuss. That is the beauty of it, it's so simple, yet so brilliant. You must see this, especially if you have terrets syndrom. 5 stars is too little for this gem.

Summary: Mmmm... Was this movie hand-shucked?
Review: The story is pretty simple. Bill Murray stars as Bob Wiley, a manic who invades the life and family of Dr. Leo Marvin, a psychiatrist played by Richard Dreyfuss. Bob comes to him for guidance but Dr. Leo is in a rush to go on his summer vacation, so he brushes him off and sends him out the door with a copy of his new best-selling book, Baby Steps. Bob can't handle it himself and decides to follow Dr. Leo to his vacation home. Bob's insistent efforts to get to Dr. Leo causes his family to become endeared to him and his child-like qualities, while Dr. Leo sees Bob's efforts so invasive he starts to become unhinged himself. This movie is a real treat. Great performances all around and one of Bill Murray's funniest roles. From watching the reaction of the family members, one wonders how much of the goofiness was improvised by Murray. Dreyfuss is splendid also as he slowly loses his patients and eventually his sanity. It gets a solid four stars and a buy recommendation. Watch it when you need a lift. But remember--baby steps... baby steps...

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: I'm not sure why most of the ones posted here are all negative about this movie. Everyone I know absolutely loves this movie and I can't begin to tell you how many times we've watched it (along with all of our family and friends.) I'm not the type who tries to figure things out - but until I read the reviews listed on this site - I've only heard wonderful things about the movie. Its one we never grow weary of and one we have watched more times than I can count. I would highly advise this movie.

Summary: Most irritating comedy Murray Has Been In
Review: This movie was one I looked forward to watching so much I bought it without seeing it first after loving Groundhog Day so much. Big mistake, I laughed once through the entire movie, It wasn't all horrible, but that's only because of the two leading actors, Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss. There was no real funny content in the movie, I mean, it was a story line that seemed to flat line after the first 15 minutes. I don't expect a comedy movie to have an outrageously great storyline, but this was simply dragging on without any unpredictable humor. It's amazing how many people do enjoy this movie, but if you haven't seen it first, don't buy it, rent it. You can do yourself a lot of good by checking into the finer works of Bill Murray like Groundhog Day, which is clever and unpredictable in many aspects. This movie is very predictable, and that makes it hard to find funny when you can see the jokes coming. It's more of an irritating comedy than anything where a doctor (Richard Dreyfuss) is the only one who sees Bob (Bill Murray) as a psychotic patient and everyone else loves him casting the doctor aside as a insensitive no-fun kind of "Dad". So it frustrates the viewer because the most [silly] predictable events are allowed to take place. If you're interested in Murray, check into "The Man Who Knew Too Little", "Groundhog Day", "Ghostbusters", "Stripes", and "Caddyshack".
