Rating: Summary: Lots of Quotes! Review: One of the measures of a good movie is if you recite lines from it in normal dialog. My family uses many quotes from this movie and has been doing so for years. Whenever my wife is run down she pulls this one out and immediately starts to laugh. This is one of our favorite wacky comedies.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Movie of All Time Review: I seriously think that this is the best movie ever. I haven't seen it in a few months but my stomach still hurts from all the laughing I did (ok, not really but you get the picture). Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors and he made me love him even more in this film. I cannot count how many times I laugh everytime I watch this movie. If you are going to watch this movie, be ready for a stomach ache afterwards because I can guarantee that you will laughing for all eternity after you watch this movie. If you have a pulse, you will enjoy this movie!
Rating: Summary: "Gimme, gimme, gimme, I need, I need, I need!!!" Review: "Hello, I'm Bob. Would you knock me out, please?" To paraphrase Bob on Neil Diamond, there are two types of people in this world -- those who like What About Bob and those who don't. It's such a shame comedies never really win oscars -- especially for absolutely priceless Richard Dreyfuss here. (It's a toss up between this and Groundhog Day for Bill Murray's best.) Human crazy glue patient Murray and "Baby Steps" author/psychoanalyst Dreyfuss and his "fam" trying to take a vacation -- "just me and the family and my book" -- years since its release, I still sometimes leave What About Bob running as background priceless comic relief and it's still Dreyfuss who leaves me sore and speechless. (It does get a little bit weak at the end, but the flying bust of Freud pretty much makes up for that.) The memorable quotes are nonstop. "That patient Bob committed suicide. Oh, well, let's not let it spoil our vacation." Perfect "who's the crazy one?" writing, beyond perfect comic timing and acting, perfect silly soundtrack -- near perfect casting including Julie Hagerty as the dangerously naive wife whose blouse is the same fabric as the couch and the bus driver "Wing" ("You think you can do it today, Bob? We have a baby schedule to keep."). "I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful." There should be midnight showings ala Rocky Horror of What About Bob. Not to be missed, sometimes not to be taken out of the VCR.
Rating: Summary: side splitting ache worthy comedy film Review: saw this tons of times on tv
8 times on video
and 12 times when I bought it on dvd
it will be seen more times on my dvd player when I can
Bill Murray is hilarious at driving his patient therapist psycho
the ending is brilliant
the beginning is humorous
everything Bob does throughout the movie is side splitting
from following the doctor therapist to his home up in Lake Winnepisocki (spelled as close as I can remember) and just completely having fun with the family and not realizing it's tearing Leo apart limb from limb til the almost end of the movie where he gets back at Bob. ALMOST! Genious plot and script. warm atmosphere comedy and moving wise the movie gives off. see this movie if you're a fan of Richard Dreyfuss or Bill Murray.
Rating: Summary: What About Bob? The Best! Review: This Movie Deserves More Than 5 stars! The ultimate in a mix of acting between the 2 Stars! You can fully support Bob and truly laugh at and hate his Doc! In the long run, the ending is the same as the first of this movie! Congratulate Bob! Laugh at his Doc! I leaned a little towards sympathy for Doc at the end! Not quite enough to contain my laughter anyway! Words cannot truly describe this great comedy! More than 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: Is this corn hand shucked? Review: When they say a film for all ages, this is the kind of film they mean. Both my kids and my parents laugh out loud through this movie and we all enjoy rewatching any time it's on. Definitely one film to have on your shelf.
Richard Dreyfus is perfect too as Bob's foil - uptight and eventually completely unhinged.
My favorite scene is the dinner Bob has with the Marvin's, where he asks in a culinary orgasm if the corn is hand shucked, and ends up saving Leo.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS MY FAVOURITE COMEDY MOVIE Review: This was the funniest movie I had ever seen when I first saw it. Years, and countless viewings later, it still makes me laugh.
I think that this is Bill Murray's best performance.
Richard Dreyfuss is a brilliant actor, and has a great talent for comedy - that voice of his was made for comedy and he is brilliant in this!
A fun, original story and thoroughly hilarious!! I can't believe what I'm seeing when I see a bad review!? Have these people no funny bone whatsoever? This is an absolute comedy gem!!
Rating: Summary: Some great Bill Murray moments Review: When I saw this movie as a teen for the first time, I was so turned off by Dreyfuss that I couldn't enjoy any of the scenes in which he appeared. Consequently, I thought the movie stunk, and I also distinctly remember not being sold on the least on the idea that Dreyfuss has been driven to insanity in such a short period of time. He goes from annoyed to murderous without much of a transition. At the same time, it's hard to see why Dreyfuss' family keeps inviting Bob into their homes. But a years-later viewing showed that the movie definitely has the potential to grow on you; while I'm still lukewarm on Dreyfuss, Bill Murray has some of the funniest scenes of his career.
Rating: Summary: Absolute genius Review: This movie is a benchmark to what all comedies should aspire to.
It is superbly crafted from the script itself to the terrific performances of Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss.
The solid character development unfolds with the movie with Murray and Dreyfuss gradually changing roles in this film. It is filled with funny lines, and is a great feel-good movie. A true must-see, this classic comedy ages far better than many other comedies of its era.
Definitely in my top 10 of comedies of all time!
Rating: Summary: Wildly Funny, Dreyfus and Murry score Review: This movie is one of those under appreciated gems in the comedy world. A great movie to stumble upon in the video store on a quiet week night and pop in to laugh endlessly. Truly original storyline about a Doctor played by Richard Dreyfus and a psychotic but friendly patient bill murry(Bob). Dreyfus is great as usual and plays a convincing role as the uptight professional and prickish doctor trying to enjoy a vacation with his family only to have it spoiled by the multiphobic persistent and annoying patient named Bob Wiley. The laughs are nonstop as Bob drives the doctor insane with one stunt after another. All the while bob wins the friendship of the doc's family, which helps to drive him over the edge. Of course by the end of the flick the doctor has developed a fully insane and homicidal personality and Bob Wiley appears normal. bill Murray has more one liners in this movie than in his entire career. He will have you laughing your ass off by the middle of the movie and it gets better as it goes deeper into the plot. Dreyfus puts together a convincing and superb performance turning from professional and stuck up to down right aggressive and disorderly. Actually one of the funnier comedys you will see and probably Murray's all time best. Highly recomended for those who appreciate demented and borderline psychotic humor.
