Summary: A class act
Review: This is the first Disney film released after I was born. I got into this film because of the music. It is perfect!! Both Julie Andrews & Dick Van Dyke were perfect in their roles. Notice I use the word perfect as it was in the film. Glad there are extras on the disc, surprising. ...

Summary: If not one of the best, THE BEST
Review: If one is ten years old and has not seen this film, one has been cheated. If one is my age (59) and two years have gone by without seeing this film, one has been cheating ones self. It's just that simple.

Summary: Timeless enjoyment
Review: A wonderful film to keep youngsters enthralled.

I only have two gripes. Firstly it seems to be only 5.0 channel, with no Sub woofer output. I am playing it through a Yamaha DVD and receiver. I have noticed I am not the first to report this. I have not tried Dolby surround as the other reviewer suggested.

Secondly, the disc - at least the one available in Australia (zone 4)- is only single layered, requiring it to be flipped halfway through. A small gripe, but annoying when you want the children to watch while you get on with other chores. (And I would have thought unnecessary given other old Disney re-released (Robin hood for example) are dual layered.)

Still worth the purchase.

Summary: A True Classic.
Review: I loved this film when I was a child, and had cut out dolls, and games relating to the movie. I had the LP and knew all the words and sang them so much it must have driven my family bonkers. And my children also loved this movie and I bought a copy as soon as it became available.

Julie Andrews won an Oscar for her portrayal of the irrepressible nanny, Mary Poppins who brings a carpetbag of magical adventures into the lives of the Banks family on Cherry Tree Lane. With a dazzling blend of animation and live-action, and an award-winning musical score, this is a must for children and the young at heart. This is a timeless classic, that children centuries from now will still enjoy.

Summary: Practically Perfect
Review: In this day of plotlines running the speed of light, the pace of Mary Poppins is an acquired taste, but what a feast it is. All the Sherman and Sherman songs are good; "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and "A Spoonful of Sugar" cast a giant shadow, but among the others is the poignant "Feed the Birds" ("Tuppence"), a gentle hymn for charity, and a showcase for matte painter Peter Ellenshaw's beautiful renderings of St. Paul's Cathedral. Ellenshaw and his mystical views of London in 1910 aren't meant to be literal, just imaginative, and fuse the animation elements with live action while acting as a strong character within the film. The music and choreography are both thrilling in the chimney sweeps' production number, "Step in Time". Staged by Marc Breux and Dee Dee Wood, and inspired by Michael Kidd, it uses movie magic to augment terrific dancing. Both "Feed the Birds" and "Spoonful" are in the third act, dishing up more visual sugar just when similar family films are winding down. "The Making of Mary Poppins" is very good and the 1964 promo film of the world premiere at the Chinese Theater is tacky and enjoyable. The two hour and twenty minute film seems effortless, but other 60s family films that attempted to emulate its magic fell short. They're on DVD too, but stick with Mary.

Summary: The Ultimate Disney Movie- Great for Everyone!
Review: This is by far my favorite Disney movie ever. The music is unforgettable and the acting is funny and excellent. The plot is magical and the script is charming and heart-warming. It is a great children's film and it is a picture that really touches you and pulls you in. Some images are beautiful and elegant, like the haunting "Feed the Birds" sequence and the roof smoke climbing. It is funny and has great ironic humor like the bank scene and the scene when Mr. Banks is being laid off as the employers puzzle at his crazy realization. MARY POPPINS is a great movie for everyone and is a classic movie for everyone to enjoy.

Summary: How Lucky Jane and Michael Banks Were!!!!
Review: I am a huge fan of Disney movies, and this is, by far, my favorite. Every time I watch it, I get a wonderful, happy, child-like, magical, goose-pimply feeling. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a nanny like Mary Poppins!! Now that I have a child of my own, I CANNOT WAIT to introduce this movie to him. I'm a firm believer in reading to your children. My son is not 2 yet, and I have constantly read to him since he was an infant, but...this is one time where he'll see the movie before having the book(s) read to him. I've introduced this move to a nephew and a cousin and they were mesmerized. It made me enjoy the movie even more, watching it through their eyes. The songs are EXCELLENT. Dick Van Dyke is AMAZING (also check him out in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and Julie Andrews is at her BEST (along w/The Sound of Music). This is the magic of Disney at its best. (Other greats: Cinderella, Aladdin, Toy Story I & II).

Summary: Movie's great but the DVD seems to have a sound glitch
Review: The five stars speak for themselves, I can hardly add to the other justified praise MP has received. But the Disney DVD Gold Collection version seems to have a sound glitch. When playing in Dolby Digital mode on my new Onkyo TX-DS575 receiver there is no LFE (subwoofer) sound. The supposed 5.1 channels are only 5.0 channels. I need to play it in Dolby Pro Logic mode to get full range sound including the subwoofer. I have encountered this problem also on some other older remastered DVD releases, e.g. Goldfinger. The problem is not in my system since newer movies on DVD such as Matrix and Top Gun run fine. 'Tis a puzzlement.

Summary: Excellent for the whole family, great music, great show!
Review: Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews are totally awesome. The singing is great... You and your kids will be humming the tunes for ages and the kids will definitely want to see this one over and over.

Absolutely worth owning.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. I was very glad to get this on DVD! My VHS is just about to rip apart. Great graphics and sound! AWESOME behind-the-scenes stuff!! I haven't found one bad thing about this DVD, OR the movie. I bought this DVD a few weeks after it was released (I didn't know this edition just came out at the end of June!!!) while on vacation in Canada, and I've watched it SO many times already, and no problems with it.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
