Summary: I'm a believer!!
Review: Yes! Yes! Yes!
We love it! And putting the movie on both discs was a great idea :) Funny, funky, irreverent movie, well worth it. But if you can't stand a little potty humor, this isn't the movie for you.

Summary: Very Funny
Review: Shrek has got to be one of the funniest films that i have ever seen. From the start you are taken into an obscure world full of well known characters and adult themed humour. This film appeals to people of all ages as, it has the cute characters ans colour fot the youngsters and the hidden meanings for the adults. Mike Myers is fantastic as Shrek who is a green troll who everyone thinks is a savage beast, when in fact he is just a lonely guy who longs for someone to love himm, for who he is and not what he is. (this is where Cameron Diaz's character comes in) I could go on forever telling you the story of this film, but i recommend that just go out and buy it as you have probably heard of it. A must have and a great christmas present

Summary: What is everyone thinking?
Review: I don't understand why everyone thinks this is such a charming movie. The message is subtle, but very potentially damaging, especially to little girls-- AND boys. It says an ugly person can have love, but only with another ugly person. Or, put another way, if you are attractive and fall in love with someone who's ugly, it will make you ugly by association. How much more powerful, positive (and, yes subversive, which is why they didn't write it this way) it would have been if the girl would have stayed pretty but lived happily ever after with Shrek anyway! Try explaining that to your kids! Or, if a pretty MAN had fallen in love and lived happily ever after with a homely WOMAN with disgusting personal habits! Here's another subtle aspect of the movie that sent a very negative message. When the princess was pretty, she was saucy and self-confident. During her homely, overweight spells, she became shy and awkward. Not only her looks, but her personality changed, as well. It's definitely not okay by Hollywood's standards to be a saucy, self-confident, homely and overweight gal, and this movie sends that message big-time. What is so strange is that so many Americans lap this stuff up without question, and seemed to think the movie was saying looks are not important. Has popular culture rendered them that brain-dead?

Summary: AWESOME
Review: this is an awesome movie with lots of laughs. it's great because they don't swear in it, but they do fit in "inside jokes" for the older kids in your family. A 17-year old and a 6-year old can enjoy this movie together! I loved it so much

Summary: The FUNNIEST movie of the YEAR
Review: Shrek was the funniest movie of the year. With the great cast of Mike Meyers, Eddie Murfey, Cameron Diaz, John Withgow, and other great, hesterical voices, this movie was sure to make it to the top.But no one knew for sure just how funny it was going to be until they actually saw it. Jokes are secretly placed in the movie for not only children but adults too. From big ugly ogers, to pinoccio, this movie will get the whole family laughing from beginning to end. They added new, funny features to the video that werent in the movie, which is more of a reason why the video was 10 times better than the movie! I totally recomend this movie for EVERYONE!

Summary: Great
Review: Computer-animated fairy tale about a cranky ogre who, while trying to clear his swampy abode of pesky fairies and unicorn, rescues a princess and befriends a chatty donkey.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: not impressive
Review: While the hype was high about this movie based on the comments from my kids, friends etc., I found the movie to be pure pedestrian drivel. Snippets of fairy tales, music that gen Xer's can identify with does not make a movie creative in the least. Would I watch this again -- NO! I believe that the Toy story movie in comparison was far superior.

Summary: Not very original
Review: I seriously think that if this movie did not star the voices of Eddie Murphy, John Lithgow, Mike Myers, and Cameron Diaz, it would have only about a quarter of the popularity and hype it does have. This is because, while Shrek is very funny and enjoyable, the storyline is weak. In fact, it's extremely predictable. Before half the movie was over I had it figured out that Princess Fiona turns into an ogre after sunset, and I'm sure that everyone, before even seeing the film, knew she and Shrek would end up together. OK, here's the story: Shrek, shunned for his ugliness, lives on his lonely swamp, and is befriended by a very funny but also very annoying talking donkey. Lord Farquaad banishes all fairy tale characters from his kingdom and onto Shrek's swamp. Shrek goes to him to straighten it out, and is sent on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona, whom Farquaad needs to marry to be titled King. Of course, on the way back to the castle, Fiona and Shrek fall in love, and the rest is like, "Well, duh!" We learn that when Fiona was young, a witch cast a spell on her to turn into an ogre every night. We never find out why, which I consider one of the major flaws with this plot. I mean, come on, witches don't just go turning people into nocturnal ogres for no apparent reason! Also, she says to Donkey that she can't stay with Shrek because princesses are supposed to be beautiful. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Shrek is ALWAYS ugly. He can't be picky. He would still probably love her even if he knew her secret. I guess what the princess said is plausible, when you consider that she wants to marry Farquaad because he's her true love and that would break the spell, but I really don't know. She's never even seen this guy, shouldn't she be able to tell he's not gonna be her true love? Anyway, as far as humor, voice talent, and music go, Shrek is a great movie. But those wanting a really original plot that makes sense from almost any viewpoint may be disappointed. It's not especially creative. The DVD extras, I should add, are good, particularly the technical goofs. In the great Shrek VS Monsters, Inc war, I would definitely say that while I enjoyed both movies, Monsters is better.

Summary: Great video, but extras have rough edges
Review: Shrek is a great movie - very funny! The extra scenes on this DVD are interesting and entertaining. If you're looking for a fun movie (one that you'll enjoy as much as the kids), this is a great choice.

However, note that many of the 'extra features' are for Windows only - they aren't available on DVD players or on Macintosh. Also, if you want to see all the extra scenes, you'll need to repeatedly backtrack through the same navigational screens - it gets VERY tedious.

I certainly recommend the video, but I think the producers have done a poor job with the DVD, and the packaging and advertising are quite deceptive. Ideally, more features should be available with standard DVD players - and it should certainly be clear on the package that they are not!
