Summary: A colorful look at childhood!
Review: This is one of the only movies I've ever seen that is "mild" enough for a child but funny, and involving, enough for a teen and/or adult. It is based on the book of the same name by Roald Dahl, and, like the book is charming and funny, if not a bit "off the wall". This is definately not a realistic look of the world, but the over-done approach is so well executed that it doesn't really matter. The emotions are wild in this movie, but fit the scenes, and the characters range the gamut, and are all "lovable" in their own right.

Kid actress Mara Wilson (Matilda Wormwood) is a gem and shines in her own right. This movie is *almost* worth buying, just to see her recite her lines and make those awfully cute faces. However, if you want a more realistic, equally charming vision of childhood, I'd recommend "Radio Flyer", "Jack the Bear", or "House of Cards". If you want something purely light and fluffy, but funny, this is for you.

Summary: A wonderful movie (from a great book) about a little girl
Review: who learns to survive her difficult background and painful surroundings through the discovery of books and libraries; the pleasures of literacy. Beautifully directed, well-adapted, and with remarkable performances--Embeth Davidtz, in particular, is a charming Miss Honey. This is one of my half dozen favorite movies of the 90's--it is a triumph of the decade of odd, independent flicks.

Summary: Absolutely Delightful!!!
Review: My entire family loved this movie -- mom, dad, daughter age 9, son age 6-1/2, and daughter age 3-1/2. (Although it's a little too scary in parts for the 3-year-old). After renting the video, we had to buy a copy to keep. The movie is way better than the book.

Summary: Child's play
Review: Sometimes you need art explained to you, and maybe that's why I had a mixed reaction to the film MATILDA. It did not bore me, that's for sure. I thought child actor Mara Wilson did a great job in the title role. Were the filmmakers telling the story through the point of view and imagination of a little kid? That would explain why this adult had trouble understanding MATILDA. Growing up helps you forget some of the confusion and pain - as well as free spirit - we all probably had in childhood. My favorite scene: Matilda's dance to "Little Bitty Pretty One," because through all that turmoil, she's making her life what she wants it to be.

Summary: NOT TO BE MISSED!
Review: This is one of my favourite movies! It may have some twists and may not be *as* good as the book but its wonderful in its own right! If you like comdeies, then you've *got* to buy this! Its an absolute masterpiece! The actors and actressess are excellent and so are the storylines and scenes! Its suitable for all ages and will keep you in stitches for hours!

Summary: Excellent movie for children and adults!
Review: I have not read Matilda however I am a big fan of Dahl's books. This movie had my 4-year-old, my Mother, and myself in stitches. The story is a bit dark though and the villains in the movie are very mean! They are truly hilarious however.

Summary: Good movie for kids of all ages
Review: Yes, this movie is a bit grotesque, but so are all of Roald Dahl's stories, and kids have loved them for 30 years. Mara Wilson gives probably her best performance yet as Matilda, the kid who knows everything but just wants to be loved. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman are a delight as Matilda's neglecting, self-centered parents. Pam Ferris is great as the monster of Matilda's school, the principal, Miss Trunchbull. Yeah, some of the Trunchbull's scenes go on too long, but they're fun! Great movie that will surely be enjoyed by kids of all ages.

Summary: It's a shame that this film was made
Review: Ridiculous as it is that this movie was even made put aside, it desecrates the brilliance of the novel. I place DeVito in the same category as The Trunchbull. Please read the book.

Summary: Nothing like the book
Review: If you expect the movie to be like the book don't buy this. It is a good movie, but a disapiontment compared to the book. Cool songs

Summary: Parents: See this movie!
Review: This movie is very special and precious, as it explores the way a young girl with a genius I.Q. searches for warmth and affection that she does not get from her callous parents. She is a special little girl who wants to be loved. A must see for families!
