Summary: An excellent movie for children and adults alike!
Review: This movie is about a young child who was born into a family not much like herself. She is constantly being tormented and abused by her family. Since no one is there to guide her in life, she guides herself. She teaches herself how to read, write, and anything else a child can do. She is smarter than an average human being though. She always dreamed of going to school, but never even started until the age of 6 1/2. But soon school turns into a nightmare because of a physically abusive headmistress who everyone hates and fears. But one thing Matilda does truly love about school is her teacher, Miss. Honey. One day Matilda learns that all of the yelling her father does, gives her magnificent powers, which she uses to help herself and others. This movie is wonderfully funny, exciting, and just plain humorous! This is most Definitly a have-to-see movie. I hope you enjoy it!

Review: As you know this movie is based on Ronald Dahl's book Mara Wilson is a brillant stunning young actress I loved her in 1993's Mrs. Doubtfire, 1997's Simple Wish and 1999's tv movie Balloon Farm I'm a fan of Mara Wilson she's always been my favorite I don't know ever since I was 10 but now I'm 13 and I still am a fan of her's you'll love this movie Danny Devito's good in this movie I'm not exactly a fan of him but he's good Elizabeth Davidtz was good she was also good in 1999's Bicenntennial Man well this movie's about magic if you don't put 5 stars on this movie your toast please I recommend you get this the characters are funny and the story is sweet!

Summary: the saying even works w/ kids movies the book was better
Review: Danny Devito gave exellent effort in this movie. He acted and played a major roll in the making of it. He tried and compared to other kid movies it isn't that bad but the amazing talents of Dahl (the author of the book) can't be shown in this movie. I really didn't want to say this but the book was better. If u love the book it might be worth seeing it for a few scenes

Summary: A Fine Film for Older Children
Review: My 4-year-old daughter received this as a Christmas present. Although it is entertaining, it's one I recommend you hold off on until your child is a bit older (6 - 9). The violence is not that bad (my daughter knew it was just a movie), but my objection was the insults that were used frequently, due to the unsavory characters. A younger child would pick up repeating the insults pretty quickly. However, Pam Ferris was a great villain, Embeth Davidtz was lovely as Miss Honey and Mara Wilson and her classmates were adorable.

Summary: A great family movie...
Review: I watched Matilda on cable, and I found it very charming, funny, and enjoyed it alot. It's the story of a little girl, who was a "mistake" according to her self-involved mother, who is played quite brilliantly by Rhea Perlman. Matilda pretty much raises herself and teaches herself to read, by the age of 7, she is reading Moby Dick. Once enrolled in school, she goes through a barrage of adventures and not always such pleasant ones. It is a story that children can easily follow, and parents can rest easy. This is probably one of the best family/children's movies I have ever seen. I was very impressed by the performances of everyone in the cast. Mostly impressed by the woman who plays the principal of the school, she really turned in a very convincing portrayal. Matilda is definitely a great film for family viewing. There are a few frightening parts, but all in all, it is full of wholesome entertainment that we can all appreciate.

Review: This is a movie for everyone, not just for children. It was very well acted. The mean characters were REALLY NASTY and the nice ones were very sweet. Who could be more villainous than Ms. Trenchbull, self absorbed as Matilda's family, and kinder than Miss Honey. Thanks.

Review: This is one of those very few movies which is better than the book it is based on; Probably because of the funny chase scene at the end...I'm not sure. You'll like it!

Summary: Dahl And DeVito Make A Good Combination.....
Review: Although not quite as faithful to the book as The Witches film was to the book of the same name, this is a very good adaptation indeed, capturing Dahl's vivid creations and dark, creepy imagination wonderfully. Although it is obvious that Dahl's work is not the only influence on the film, which isn't a good thing, DeVito certainly did this adaptation with much gusto and got to grips with Dahl well. Mind you, the book is his and wife Rhea Perlman's children's favourite book and, as he said so himself, they were nagging the pair to do a good job. But what's more I can't find any major flaws in any of the performances of the actors and the title role is played by Mara Wilson who is good and very charming in pretty much everything I've seen her in. She comes into her own here and remains the most likeable child actor in Hollywood. And for anyone who saw Pam Ferris play jovial, good-natured women in the British television series The Darling Buds of May and Where The Heart Is is in for a treat as to the versality she can do as the horrible Miss. Trunchball. I still think it's Rhea Perlman as Matilda's ghastly mother who steals the show, though. Good fun, good film, good review.

Summary: NOT for children of all ages...
Review: While I am a huge fan of Dahl, this movie is NOT appropriate for children of all ages as many of the other viewers have suggested. I watched this movie after my 4 year old had seen part of it at preschool. All she talked about was the "mean teacher" who did "horrible things to little kids" including "eating a little boy." She was really traumatized by this movie and after watching it, I would have NEVER let her see it (I'm pretty amazed her preschool let kids watch this movie). Young children do not have the capabilities to understand this movie the way it is meant to be understood, nor can they appreciate the humor.
