Rating: Summary: Another DVD door bad Review: Must be cronic with Toshiba. Hooks up easy and looks great, but the DVD door won't open. Didn't even try a tape in it. Packed it up and returned it for the Philips combo. Will write a review on it after I try it. This was a Christmas gift from my daughter, and I think she was more disappointed that it didn't work than I was. Shame on you, Toshiba!
Rating: Summary: very solid unit Review: Previously, I have tried Panasonic and GoVideo combos. Each had its flaws mostly in the VCR domain. The Toshiba unit records well and keeps the colors of the TV faithfully even through the RF input. The only problem is that the beginning of the recording is not flawless, with some lines that quickly disappear, but the same thing generally happens with other systems. DVD watching is easy and the quality is outstanding (I have not even tried the component video). Contrary to some users, I don't have any problem with the remote or VCR programming. The only inconvenience I see is that after programming the VCR you have to press the Rec button; some other systems do not require it. Overall, for a rather small price you get a very solid and nicely designed unit with quality performance both with the VCR or DVD player.
Rating: Summary: 2nd one works fine - and great Amazon customer service Review: Received the first unit and it had the mechanical defect of the DVD draw not opening. Emailed Amazon customer service, received reply within 24 hours that a 2nd unit was being shipped, and that UPS would pick up the defective one. Received the second one same day the first was picked up. Free shipping all the way around. 2nd unit works fine. Good value for these features. Will see if the DVD draw holds up. Problem with the first one sounded like an alignment issue.
Rating: Summary: Poor quality Review: Similar to another reviewer, the VCR worked well but the DVD drawer did not open. I called Toshiba and they sent a replacement unit. This time the DVD worked well, but the VCR picture quality was very poor. I have now decided to return the unit for a full refund and have opted to buy DVD and VCR units separately. I had read that you sacrifice quality with a combined unit and I can attest that to be true. There are many good quality VCR's and DVD's out there at affordable prices and I now believe that is the best way to go.
Rating: Summary: Great Unit Review: This unit is simple to set up and use. Good Warranty, its great looking and has simple hook ups. Easy to connect to use with an inexpensive TV like my spare room TV with just a cable connector on the back. In from antenna (cable) and out to TV. (it does have s-video and other imputs and outputs if you need them) It works like a dream with a full feature remote. Play and watch a DVD, hit the one touch record button and your recording your personal DVD's to the VCR. (haven't tried a rental but I am sure most are copy protected anyway) So simple to use with excellent picture and sound quality. Will also play DVD-R and DVD+R. Haven't tried CD's but wouldn't use this unit for that anyway. You can't go wrong for the money. Now if it lasts as long and is as dependable as the Toshiba TV I have in my media room I will be very happy. Don't be afraid of this unit. Its Great!!
Rating: Summary: Read the other reviews and take heed Review: Wish I had read the other reviews before purchasing. I picked Toshiba because I believed it represented quality. WRONG. The DVD drawer wouldn't open and had the hassle of returning and re-ordering. Number 2 came, same problem. Re-ordered again (sounds stupid). Number 3 OK, just OK. You can do better. But, Amazon service is great.
