Rating: Summary: Great player for the money Review: This player is extremely good for the money. I have used a lot of players and can tell you, you won't get this combination of features for so cheap otherwise. It sounds as though Cyberhome may have some quality-control problems, but I've gotten three CH products and have had no trouble so far. Some notes:(1) This player can be made region-free very easily - if you follow the simple instructions at www.regionfreedvd.net you'll have a good region-free player in about ten seconds. My wife has a lot of Region 2 (PAL British) discs and they play beautifully in this unit. (2) I hear a lot of people complaining about this black & white issue, only to hear that they're connecting their A/V cables (composite video- yellow/left audio - white/right audio-red) to the component connections (Luminence - green/chrominance[b] - blue/chrominance[r] - red)!!! Now obviuosly it's not the fault of the manufacturer if people don't understand that the cable colors need to *match* the colors of the connectors or else it won't work correctly!!!! Cyberhome is not responsible for people who don't understand how to wire things but don't read the documentation. (3) There are occasionally discs that this player has trouble with - I've found it has a low tolerance for dust and scratches on the discs, and that some very old discs give it some trouble. However, I've found nothing that it simply won't play; generally ejecting the disc, cleaning it and reinserting fixes the problem. Anyway, it's a great player for the money. It certainly won't stand up against a player with a more advanced video D/A converter; if you want a Denon DVD2200 but don't want to spend the $600 you're likely not to like this player. But if you're looking for a good, cheap player with some nice features, this is it. READ THE MANUAL and/or MATCH CABLE COLORS and you'll not be disappointed with this little player.
Rating: Summary: Noisy!! Review: Well, it fits the space that I needed it for, but it's very noisy and I have to return it. The picture quality is fine and it's a cute little feller, but you can hear the incessant whine of the DVD spinning, and that can drive you crazy. Too bad none of the other reviewers noted this, or I would never have bought it.
Rating: Summary: Not Working ! Review: I bought 1 last month from sears. The player has very good feature set but fails in its basic functionality itself. It stopped playing exactly after 90 mins. I tried with all DVD media I had..still the same and so I returned this. Then, I bought same model from bestbuy. To my surprise, this too failed exactly as like earlier one. Very good consistency!. I need to return this today :(. I wonder how cyberhome released a product without a minimal testing.
Rating: Summary: Region free NTSC PAL Review: This machine is perfect to me in terms of region free and the ability to play both formats. ... You will find tons of feedbacks left on the forums to recommend this model and there's no need to talk about it. The point is. If you are looking for a $43 DVD player and expect to perform like a $275 one, this model will definitely disappointed you. However, if you're looking for a powerful region free plus dual format DVD player, you will hardly find one. P.S. I didn't have the problem with black and white. ... None of them have that problem. Maybe I was lucky. But so far I didn't see any complaints regarding to this issue on the related forum but Amazon. I will keep eye on it and update.
Rating: Summary: false start, but so far second time is good Review: I had similar problems as other reviewers with the first unit I bought. It wouldn't play every DVD, it was very noisy on some discs and not others, etc. I returned this unit to the store and exchanged it. For the low price I figured I'd give this product one replacement chance. My second unit is fine. The movie that wouldn't play in the first unit, plays perfectly in the second. The picture is clear, color is great, no skipping, no problems. Also the second unit makes absolutely no noise when the DVD is playing-if I were to turn off the TV during DVD playback-you would have no idea the DVD player was running. The model seems to have a major consistancy problem. It simply appears to be a matter of did you get a good or bad one.
Rating: Summary: extremely noisy but plays almost anything Review: i agree with the previous post that this player is very noisy. you can hear the whining and sqeeks as the disc loads and plays (compared to my cyberhome ch-dvd 500 which is silent). i had to pad the bottom ventilation slots with foam to keep the noise down. however, this dvd player plays pretty much anything you throw to it (dvd+-r/rw, vcd, cd, mpeg, avi, pal/ntsc, etc.). if you don't mind the noise (and subsequent heat) and can live without seeing the display panel then this is a good buy.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe it! Review: I was shopping with my husband at Sam's club and saw this item for about $40. We wanted a dvd player in our bedroom but I was very skeptical because of the price and the size of this player. It is extremely small for a dvd player. It's actually about the size of one of my daughter's school books! For $40 I figured we'd give it a try and I'm really glad we did. It loads up the movies within seconds, unlike the $300 dvd player in our living room that takes forever for the movie to start. And for such a little machine, the picture it gives is quite incredible! I highly recommend this little player. For the price, you can't really lose. I plan on going out to buy a few more of them to stock up for Christmas presents. The machine is supposed to also play cd's and mp3. I haven't tried that yet but it they work half as well as the dvd's, I'll be very happy. I'll actually have a "stereo" in my room now too!
Rating: Summary: not very consistent Review: i bought 2 of these dvd players and shockingly neither are alike one is loud loads very slow and skips on half the dvds the other a 3 month older model has a diffrent menu loads fast and noisefree and doesnt skip so it appears to be incosistent construction some have working ones some dont i guess u get what u pay for me im taking back my broke one and keeping the working one pretty simple at this price folks its a decent buy just find a working one o and the remote requires minimes fingers to operate they shoulda made it a little larger and outta the 4 dvds i had skip 3 stopped skipping after cleaning making me think it just doesnt plat dirty discs well
Rating: Summary: nice dvd player, but WITH FLAWS! Review: I picked up this dvd player from sears in march 2004 for about 39.00. upon using it, discovered that remote is cramped and hard to use, and the player is NOISY! also, small watch battery is used for remote battery. no display screen to show you anything just a yellow led that flashes. however it does play everything i want it too, dvd's dvd's that ive burned, mp3's music, pics, etc. just a poorly constructed dvd player. you get what you pay for!!
Rating: Summary: Cheapest hackable player on the market! Review: The thing that was the selling point to me was that this player is very easy to hack into using the remote to make region free. Yes, the player is noisy and generates some heat, but not so much as a PS2. If you search hard enough on google, you'll find how to make yours region free also. This player also plays highly scratched disks quite well. In a most extreme case I took a disc that I rubbed against dry wall and wrote on with a black sharpie. It still played in my Cyberhome! This was not the case with my Samsung.
