Summary: BEWARE - PLAYBACK IS NOT AS IT SEEMS
Review: Please note this vitally important information that you can only know AFTER you purchase this DVD player and read Page 6 of the Operating Instructions: "DVD-RAM discs recorded using this unit cannot be played on other DVD players (including units made by Panasonic except specific players having DVD-RAM playback capability). The only type of blank disc which the unit can record (and play back) is a DVD-RAM/RAM 4.7 (type 2 cartridge recommended but type 1 can also be used)."

Therefore, when you tape on this machine, you CAN ONLY playback on this machine or other SPECIAL Panasonic machines (that have only just been released with DVD-RAM functionality) and you have to use special DVD's as well. Be careful, this is far less useful when you cannot give a taped DVD's to your friends and family to watch without giving them your DVD player as well !!

Good luck,

Summary: Truly a great machine!
Review: The invention of a DVD recorder has been long in coming (in a price range that's affordable) Set up was a breeze. I had it up and recording in less time than it took me to get my VCR working. I have recorded from tv and from VHS tape and it seems that the recorded DVD is better! The DVD Ram disks are re-recordable, so you can use them over and over. The only drawback is you need a DVD Ram player to play the recorded DVD's. If sharing your DVD's was a priority, the Panasonic DMR-E20 records DVD-R and DVD Ram formats. Some newer DVD Players play the DVD-R format. In any case, the Panasonic DMR-E10 is a great machine and the price is unbeatable from Amazon.com.

Summary: A Great Value
Review: This is a great unit at a great price. I saw demos of this unit last year. The picture it records is better than anything that was out then (S-VHS Video Recorders). As long as you have a good incoming picture you are going to get a very good and high quality image when you record and play back. That's basic.

Summary: Started off great...then poof!
Review: Well, let me preface this review by saying that I have one big hobby--ELECTRONICS. I love gizmos of all types. When I first unpacked this beauty I was in love. It had a multitude of hookup possibilities. Plus, it was just gorgeous to look at. I found some great buys on the net for DVD-RAM media but the HUGE drawback with this machine is that it only sporadically utilized the media. Of the 10 blanks I invested in, (we're talking [$$$] plus shipping!) This device would literally [mess up] 40% of them during the formatting stage. I had no recourse but to throw them out or use them as drink coasters. It was WAY too expensive to buy pricey media that MAY OR MAY NOT work when you need it to. If I had a VHS vcr that only used 60% of the blank tapes I bought, I would not keep the vcr. I returned this machine to Amazon and I ammend my earlier raves. When it DID actually record a program, the quality was spectacular. I just have no desire to own a product that works 60% of the time. I am thinking about the DMRE20 as a possiblity, because it is reputed to use dvd-r media, but I've been burned and quite frankly I'm a little hesitant to go for it. I hate to write a negative review because I'm a big fan of Amazon. The negativity reflects on Panasonic. I'm sorry this device did not perform as advertised...I really had high hopes.
