Rating: Summary: No stars (or negative stars!) would be a better rating! Review: This Apex model broke after about a month. Because it was still under warranty, we sent it back to Apex for repair or replacement, following all the instructions. This was five months ago, and after numerous attempts--including a registered letter to the company's president--we have given up trying to get a working DVD player out of Apex. This is the most appalling customer service I have ever experienced anywhere! Unless you have a burning desire to donate money to the Apex company, you would be wise to take your business elsewhere!
Rating: Summary: Apex AD-2500 and AD-2600 no picture scrolling black & white Review: Does your Apex DVD player only play DVD audio without video? Or does it play audio and video but scrolling in black and white? Before you try to return the player or waste hours calling Apex tech support, or run the player over with your car, try these simple troubleshooting ideas first. No picture: Hopefully you still have the remote control. If you tossed it out the window, you need to fetch it. Using the remote control, press the I/P button located on the bottom right corner of the remote. The I/P button switches the TV display between interlace and progressive. If this doesnt bring back the picture, try pressing this button without playing a DVD. If you dont get video back, now you can run the player over with your car! Picture scrolling in B/W: You need the remote control for this so you better get it from your dog before he burries it in the backyard. Press the P/N button located on the bottom right corner of the remote. The P/N button switches your DVD players video output signal between PAL and NTSC. By pressing P/N, you should be able to get a good picture on the screen. For other problems go to http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/support.asp I hope I have helped you continue to enjoy the Apex DVD player with these troubleshooting tips. I have done some research and experimenting with the remote when my Apex AD-2500 seemed to have lost its video signal. Im a more happier person after discovering the I/P button! The button was probably accidentally pushed to cause the black screen in the first place. But, if you're looking for my opinion of the Apex DVD player, I love it! It practically plays almost everything you give it. I've had the player for about 2 years now and it still performs nicely.
Rating: Summary: Low quality Review: I bought 2500 DVD player in Sep. 2003, and now it's broken. There is no vedio output anymore. Sometimes the disc can get stuck in the tray. But the DVD play does have more features than other DVD players. You get what you pay for.
Rating: Summary: Great value, mediocre performance Review: I loved this dvd player for the 1st week I had it. Then I discovered that the remote won't turn the player on. I've also tried an aftermarket remote that I use for the rest of my home entertainment system and it won't turn it on either. You have to be about 1 ft. away before it will work. But it will turn it off from across the room. Other than that, I've got no complaints. It's always worked with anything I've put into it. DVD-RW's, MP3 cd's, it all plays. And any cd with a jpg. image it will show the image. The only reason it gets 4 stars is because of the low price. If it had cost any more I would have been outraged with the remote deal but it also is region free so you can play all those japanese dvd's with no problem. This is it's only redeeming feature considering every other player will play everything except dvd-rw's. For the price it's a good deal but it is kept in the bedroom where it isn't used very often just because of the remote.
Rating: Summary: Junk! Review: My Apex 2500 died after 4 months. It took two days to get through to "customer service." I have the option of shipping it back at my expense for a new unit -- for a "labor" charge of course since the labor warranty expired at 3 months. I'll certainly never buy another Apex product.
Rating: Summary: Poor quality, bad customer service. Review: Think again before you buy anything from APEX! Check BBB at http://www.bbbsouthland.org to see how customer said about APEX. Amazon should be very careful in selecting vendor, a vendor like APEX definitely is not a good choice. Beside loud operation, the Karaoke died after just 2 uses, returned to Apex on 9/6/03 and still waiting for the replacement. APEX gave me different reasons as why the unit is not sent back to me yet. - UPS record showed that APEX received the unit on 9/9/03 (but APEX insisted they did not received it until 10/1/03). - One customer representative told me the replacement should be shipped out on 9/22/03. Three weeks later, another APEX people told me whoever promised me to ship out the unit is not valid, because that guy is no longer work with APEX. - Their computer system is down¡K - 'It's will take another 2 - 3 weeks'. No matter when I called, APEX always gave me same answer! - Again, APEX told me on 10/21/03 that the order has been placed and it may already shipped out. So I asked him to give me a tracking number, APEX said he did not have it and it's impossible to get one, since it's in another system! - APEX don't have the unit for replacement. (But they do have it for sale here in Amazon and other places!)
Rating: Summary: Cheap Junk & Great DVD Player at the same time Review: OK, so when you pick it up it feels like an empty tin box... completely cheapo feel to it -- but it works GREAT! it plays all the DVDs I rent from blockbuster regardless of fingerprints or minor scratches (way better than my expensive Sony DVD that freaks if there's a slight smudge)... Also, on the "el cheapo" end of things, it makes a reasonably loud revving/tracking noise when its switching between the main menu screen and the sub menus (kind of like the sound your computer makes when you put a CD in it for the first few seconds)... the noise doesn't occur during movie playback (or pause/ff/rw) so this isn't really an issue -- it just adds to the cheapo feel of it -- BUT in the end, I'd highy recommend this or the Apex 2600 for a cheap DVD player...
Rating: Summary: Great Player except for the remote Review: The machine worked great for the first a couple of days. Then the remote stopped working. I called Apex, they told me I have to take the battery out, then press every button on the remote (hundreds?) for 1 second per button. They told me this would reprogram the report. I didn't believe this s__t, but I tried and it worked fine again. It's very annoying because this kept happenning. But for $60 I guess I should not complain too much. All my friends thought I got a good deal too. I later found out that, if you take the battery out everytime you finish using it, then it'd be okay. I guess some low grade capaciter is the problem.
Rating: Summary: Nice features for an inexpensive player Review: I bought one of these for my parents last year. I was impressed with a few of the added features this had (that my own, more expensive DVD player doesn't have). Picture CDs. Burn a CD of jpg digital photos, and this DVD player will display them in slideshow format, with many options for the transitions and how long you'd like each picture on the screen. MP3s Decent visual display (better than most) for going through CD-Rs burned with mp3s. We haven't tested it with a DVD-R yet, but I'd be surprised if it had any problems.
