Summary: Problems
Review: I purchased this unit in December, 2002. I really enjoyed it for the first two months and then it would no longer read DVD's. It would read a CD or an MP3-CD only. It's currently at an authorized service center. They believe it is an allignment or decoding problem. Thankfully, it's under warranty. Buy with caution.

Summary: Buy the CP500 with caution
Review: I thought this would be a good value - lots of features for a lower price...but the performance issues are not worth the trouble. Consistant with other reviews here, my CP500 is very slow to react to commands (Start/Stop/Open tray etc.). It also stopped playing most CDs (both store bought and burned), just spins for a long time and returns a "Disk Error". I wish I'd have paid more (paid $200 in Jan 2003) for a better DVD; I'll probably never buy an Onkyo again, we'll have to see how they honor their warranty.

Summary: Poor Poor Poor Quality & Worse Support
Review: Let me start by saying if I could rate this product ZERO stars I would have. I bought the Onkyo DV-C600 6 disc changer for myself and the newer version for my dad a year later. Little did I know this product is of the poorest quality. Within 2 years my DVD player [died] on me and less than a year after that it's now completely fried. My father's situation is much worse. His player died a year after he owned and Onkyo refused to repair it. I also own an Onkyo tuner, which [died] after a year and half, they repaired it and figers crossed it hasn't broken yet. I'm 3 for 3 on defective equipment so be warned DO NOT BUY ONKYO unless you want POOR POOR POOR QUALITY AND WORSE SERVICE/SUPPORT!!!

Summary: Yet Another Customer VICTIMIZED by Onkyo's DVD Player
Review: Oh, man...I feel ALL your pain. Our expensive Onkyo DVD player has just given up the ghost -- the same way all of yours did.Uncannily similar -- we've had it about a year...light use...and it ALWAYS sucked -- Always giving us wierd, balky performance...but you could usually coax it to work...but now?
ERROR READING DISK. What a piece of CRAP!!!!
Clearly it's an engineering or manufacturing error -- but that helps us NOT, right?
Where are all the class action attorneys chasing McDonald's with fat people law suits NOW?
I wish there was a decent website where you could really get honest up to the minute reviews of products -- the cyber age has left Consumer Reports, and even things like E Opinions, totally behind...
I FEEL EVERYBODY'S PAIN -- AND EAT CRAP, ONKYO!!!!!

Summary: Junk
Review: The first one failed, didn't read DVDs and would not eject. I sent it back in under warranty and the replacement did the same thing. What a junker. I've had all kinds of Onkyo equipment in the past and it was all top quality. Not this piece.

Summary: Nothing but problems
Review: The video quality is terrible for progressive scan (no 3:2 pulldown). Sometimes the audio would suddenly stop working (analog & digital). It locks up, lacks features, and the tray movement is loud & inconsistent. There are much better dvd changers for half the price.

Summary: Good Deal
Review: This device has worked exceptionally well for me. I have had not issues with it, and I have owned it for about 9 months now. Drawbacks if any are that the device is slow to respond to my requests for opening trays, stopping play, and shuttingdown, but I have seen some other brands have similar functionality. Its a great device made by a superior brand Onkyo. It goes well with the rest of their home theater systems.

Summary: Painfully Slow
Review: This DVD Changer [is unacceptable]! It's slow to react. You'll sit there for 5 seconds and wonder did the batteries go in the remote...well no they didn't--the CP500 is just SLOW! This player gets confused when CDs and mixed in with DVDs. So be ready to babysit it and have the desire to slap it when it doesn't do what you request. Overall it's not user-friendly. This is NOT what you would expect from Onkyo. I previously owned a Kenwood CD changer and a single Toshiba DVD player, and everytime I use this piece of plastic I wish I never "upgraded."

Summary: First it would not read DVD's, now it will not eject!
Review: Wow! I wish these reviews existed when I bought mine! Same problems: It was always slow; It stopped reading discs after 10 months (under warranty had it fixed at a local shop within a week); Now it will not eject, and of coarse it is out of warranty!

Summary: Wish I'd Read These Reviews 18 Months Ago!
Review: You can add my name to the list of "victims" on this product! I also bought this DVD Player 18 months ago as part of a Home Theater system which included the Onkyo TX SR600 Receiver/Amp and the fantastic Bose Acoustamass 15 speakers. No complaints on the receiver or speakers, but the DVD player started acting up after 12 months and has now just quit altogether. It lights up but can't get the drawer to open. I found all of these negative reviews while researching a replacement, which I guarantee will NOT be another Onkyo.
