Summary: Amazon Review and Details provided were wrong
Review: I bought the Norcent 315 based on the review provided by Amazon. When I got my dvd player the product manual clearly state that it plays only NTSC. Secondly in the specs online it states that the power input can be from 100-240 volts but the system manual state very clearly that it is only 120v.
It is not right on the part of amazon to put misleading reviews and product specifications.

Summary: waste of time, you'll end up returning it
Review: I got this (long story short) for free. I still returned it, as it's not worth anyone's money. it pauses a lot during movies. I've seen a lot of DVD players do this before where its kind of a half-second pause once or twice in the movie. But this Norcent one pauses for a long time. Once it was almost two minutes before it continued with the movie, but generally its about 30 seconds. It does this about 4 or 5 times during an average movie. These are DVDs that have been played on other DVD players that had no problems.

Summary: The DP315 is a piece of crap
Review: I hate writing reviews, but the DP315--and the associated customer service provided by Norcent--is so horrendous that it warrants a meager one-star rating. The DP315 is a piece of garbage, as is Norcent. The player came w/ the quality feature of stuttering the movie throughout playback; on other occassions, the player would freeze altogether. I being (...) cheap (...), cut the boxes up for rebate purposes...so I figured I'd call Norcent for an RMA return. Little did I realize that 909-area code is not toll free, nor that customer service people actually enjoy making insipid consumers like me wait...on hold...suffering... Anyway, I never spoke to them, and my e-mails for warranty service went unresolved.

However, props to amazon.com, who actually sent me a replacement unit and pre-postage return labels when I sent them an e-mail.

Summary: PAL is the only good thing going for it
Review: I have had the unit for a total of two days and have found it somewhat lacking. It does play region free PAL DVDs, but there are times that the player just stops playing and the screen freezes. It will come back after a few seconds, but it should not happen this way. The picture is much grainier than the two previous DVD players I had (Sony and Panasonic). The manual is very poorly written, with very bad English. I will probably keep it arround in hopes of a region hack, but at present there doesn't appear to be one.

Summary: Taking up for an underdog!
Review: I ordered this player as a Christmas present and for one reason or another, ended up keeping it myself. It's great! Yes, it does freeze sometimes, but only sporadically. I've used it regularly for two months now, so you know, I have a small bit of experience, BUT, it performs rather nicely! It's a good little player for the money, that's the bottom line. Pair it with a Monster cable (I'm using a Monster RCA, not even an S-Video, and the picture quality is great) and you've got a great dvd-viewing experience. When it freezes, it's usually only for a few seconds. I've never had it dump me back to the menu page, although I say this with crossed fingers, LOL. The response time is fast and the sound is minimal. The remote control is pretty easy to handle and navigate. Best of all, that player itself is compact and easy to install! I can't tell you about the "progressive scan" capabilities of this player, for my tv is not set up for that. In my opinion, this player is great as a "second" player, like for a bedroom or family room. I hooked mine up in the living room, so I can share my dvds with the folks now, instead of simply watching them in the bedroom! My player has been in much demand and I am enjoying it!

I will say, though, that any advertised $10 rebate was not seen in my packaging, so I did not receive the rebate mentioned by Amazon. There was a card included, however it was in another language and I knew not heads or tails of what it said or what it referred to, and I'm not apt to send off a card not knowing what it says!!!

This is no great matter, it's only ten dollars. Basically this little player is a workhorse, aside from a few pauses now and then. I've played Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring all the way through with not more than one or two pauses in 3 and a half hours. Or, I've had it pause twice in thirty mins. There's no discernable pattern and it really doesn't bother me. It's only a little pause and then the movie picks up again, five seconds later. No worries!

This player has more than paid for itself. Take a chance on it!

Summary: Poor Quality
Review: I ordered two of these for our home for Christmas. Both experienced skipping problems. Thank God I did not buy them as gifts for others. I would suggest not purchasing this item and spending the extra money for a quality product. That's my next step.

Summary: For Better or For Worse
Review: I recently purchased two of these DVD Players. One works magnificient and the other does not. I have had nothing but joy from one and nothing but heartache from the other. I played 3 movies on the bad one and during a movie it fritzed out. It no longer reads discs and before it would have random pauses in the movies played. Good thing it is under warranty, bad thing is I bought it online like the rest of you and now I cannot take to the store I purchased it from for a replacement. I have to send it back to the manufacturer and I have to pay for added shipping. What a crock! Choose wisely. And thanks Amazon for selling such quality products.
