Rating: Summary: You get what you pay for. Review: All in all, it's not a bad deal....IF you can put up with the DVD suddenly stopping in the midst (usually) of a key dialogue or action sequence, Once I figured out what was going on and how to get it restarted (hit the REW and then the PLAY button), it picks right up where it left off. Sound and picture quality are fine, easy set up, the remote's a little stubborn at times but for a very basic, no frills and occasional hiccup player, it's...okay.
Rating: Summary: It doesn't work Review: As several other reviews mentioned, this thing freezes and skips right out of the box. Norcent support line is always a busy signal. Amazon agreed to take it back. Thank you Amazon. This thing should never have been released.
Rating: Summary: Clarification Review: As with all Norcent models, the labeling on the unit and in the manual is market-specific. This means that since the unit is made for the US market, it mentions the 110V power input. However, from verified experience with 300, 315, and 320 they all work at 240V. (Countries verified include Israel, Russia, India). In addition, 300 was verified to be region-free. 320 was verified to be region-free and PAL and NTSC. 315 is pending verification for both.
Rating: Summary: Does this play SVCD Review: Been hearing about the Norcent DVD players as they play all CD formats. I heard the DP300 plays both VCD and SVCD. Does the 315 play both as well or is the DP300 the better choice?
Rating: Summary: Experiencing same problems Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! Unfortunately I'm experiencing the same problems with this player: freezes while viewing a movie, showing "no disc"; doesn't play DVDs anymore, and open/close tray sticks and you have to push it closed. No use in paying for repairs - it would cost more than the player. Truth be told, you get what you pay for.
Rating: Summary: Freezes Review: First let me give amazon.com FIVE stars for their return process. Painless. But the DP-315 skips alright, and freezes five minutes into playing any DVD I put in. There is a link to the problem and potential fix on dvdrhelp. It may be due to the Cheertek CT908A codec chip on the bottom of the PCB board overheating due to lack of proper ventilation. One person fixed the freezing/skipping issue by wedging a piece of copper between the chip and the case along w/ some thermal paste to dissipate the heat. Problem is, I couldn't locate anything the right thickness (approx the width of 3 pennies). I got this player to test out my burned DVDs that wouldn't play on my Mintek1600. The Norcent recognized them no problem. This would be a good player for the money if it weren't for the freezing issue. I emailed Norcent tech support - no response. This model isn't even listed on their website. I won't buy Norcent products again due to lack of support.
Rating: Summary: how to unlock the region code Review: Hi, I just bought the Norcent and I heard that there is a way to unlock the region code. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Decoding Review: I am planning on buying the DP315, but also read the decoding method, but it looks like it's only for DP300. Just wanted to know if it would work for Dp315. Also, has anyone find a way to decode and can play some DVD-9? Thanks!!
Rating: Summary: MOST EXCELLENT UNIT Review: I BOUGHT 100 OF THESE UNITS FOR MY EMPLOYEES ABOUT A 2 WEEKS AGO. IT IS THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS THAT I WAS ABLE TO PLEASE THE ENTIRE TEAM. MY UNIT HAS PERFORMED PERFECTLY. GREAT UNIT...EXCELLENT PRICE.
Rating: Summary: Beware of this piece of junk Review: I bought one of these units from Amazon for a family pre-Christmas present. We hadn't watched even a half dozen DVD's before it started intermittently freezing on frames (read other reviews to see that there is a consistent pattern to this problem.) The frame will freeze for maybe 5 seconds, then return to normal. The remote control has also totally died. The only way that you can get the unit to respond is by using the limited controls on the front of the unit. Amazon has arranged for a replacement unit, but I suspect that, in the long run, I will get another unit with problems because this model appears to be a piece of junk manufactured in China by a company which specializes in producing electronic junk.
