Summary: Toshiba SD-2805 just as bad
Review: I bought the Toshiba SD-2805. It now does the Hello/Goodbye sequence on the screen without ever playing the dvd. I guess they did upgrade their product since it no longer says "protection". I believe there is a class-action law suit pending on Toshiba dvd players.

Review: I have this system for just about 2 months and I think it's great! I have no complaints about this system. The overall quality is great whether you're watching a dvd, playing a dvd-audio, listening to a cd or even just listening to the stereo. If you're looking for a system that's compact, stylish, sounds great and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, get this one!

Summary: I got the protection fault
Review: I have two systems. One has worked fine for probably about a year. But the second newer one just got the same "HELLO PROTECTION GOODBYE" fault that so many people seem to be getting.

Summary: Unbelievable Picture And Sound Quality....And CHEAP!!!!
Review: I just hooked up this bad boy to my 36"(non-hdtv) Sony a few days agao, and I can honestly say that it is the best electronics investment I have made in recent memory.Ease of Set-up: It took me about 20 minutes from the time I unpacked the unit and speakers until I was watching my first movie. The wires(see cons below) are all color coded which makes it that much simpler. The unit just slipped in where my previous dvd player sat. Visually: The unit is very sleek and modern looking, with a mirrored front, and silver finish. It looks like something you would see sitting in a living room of the future. The subwoofer and satellites are also in a silver finish. Picture Quality: After set-up I popped in my newly acquired Terminator 3 dvd and I must say, I was blown away. As I stated earlier, I have a non-hdtv Sony 36"television and I have it set up with component cables. I was amazed at the clarity, and the fine details I could pick up with the progressive scan, versus my 4 year old Toshiba dvd player. Sound Quality: As was stated in another review, the subwoofer is NOT powered, but passive. I am big on BASS so I was a little aprehensive at purchase time about this. I can tell you that I am very happy with the bass that this little unit puts out. The satellites do a great job also. No distortion, even at a fairly high volume(higher than normal listening). The unit itself plays in just about every format available right now, so there should be no conflict in that area. I also have the system set up to my satellite t.v. and the different effects you can create though the dolby processor(Matrix/Music/Cinema) really enhances even the most seemingly mundane program to bring out more sounds than you have heard before. I am not a qualified audiophyle or videophyle, but I do know what I like, and I can tell you that this little puppy is worth way more than the $235 I paid. Why are you still reading this! BUY NOW!! pros: Great sound/Great picture/AWESOME PRICE(don't forget, most places would charge you $30+ dollars to ship this 44 lb. box to you) cons: No way to dim or switch off front display on unit during playback which is distracting in a darkened theater type environment.
I don't know who tied the speaker wires together, but they should be fired. It took me 10 of the 20 total minutes just to untie the darn things ;-)

Summary: Toshiba has hit its mark in this Home Theater System
Review: I own several Toshiba products and have been happy with every one. Once again I was amazed at the workmanship, quality, and price of another fine Toshiba product. Before buying the Toshiba SD-43HT I made the mistake of going really cheap and bying another system from a retail chain. The maker of the cheap system was AMW. I was so dissapointed with the AMW system that I returned it within an hour of setting it up. I then decided to really research the Home Theater market before buying anything else. I came across the Toshiba SD-43HT and decided to give it a try. WoW !!! It was easy to set up and the sound is amazing for a 320watt system. Having a DTS decoder is a must for amazing surround sound. Many DVD movies have the DTS Digital as an audio option, and believe me, DTS digital sound is higher quality than Dolby 5.1 digital. Another benefit with this system is that plenty of speaker wire is included to allow speaker placements just about anywhere. I also like having the digital optical speaker input so that I'm able to hook up my Playstation 2's optical sound port to the Toshiba SD-43HT optical sound port and use the DTS decoder with Grand Theft Auto Vice City. This system is versatile and is a must have in your home. You won't be dissapointed with the price, or the quality in the Toshiba SD-43HT Theater System.

Review: I purchased to go with my Toshiba 42 HD projection TV. Sure its not a $1,000 system but it works fine and has excellent audio and video output. Sounds as good as my $500 Sony setup that I have upstairs. No Problems... would recommend (and I have) for someone else to purchase. B.G.

Summary: Unbelievable value
Review: I've been around audio/video equipment for a couple of decades, and I've seen $15,000 components (Farouja line doubler) or their equivalent go down to a small fraction of their price over the years. This is a fabulous example of how economic forces have forced prices down. I set mine up today and I can hardly believe the quality of the picture and sound (for picture quality, of course, you need a monitor capable of 720 or whatever the number of lines progressive scan DVD players put out). Now for sound, I've been around high-fi nuts since the early '50's, when some of the stuff was hardly in enclosed cabinets. You might not get better sound quality than this item puts out until you get into thousands of dollars, plus an acoustically correct room. Go for this, and spend the savings on DVD's.

Summary: Didn't work; not great sound
Review: It was easy to hook up, but the speakers didn't work in the system. We hooked the speakers from the surround sound up to our stereo, and they worked there. However, we didn't like the quality of the speakers. The box it was shipped in was missing a cable, so we couldn't hook it up to the TV. Ended up returning it. Will look around for another system.

Review: My aunt bought this system for my grandparents, but my brother, cousin, and I were the unlucky ones who set it up for them. If you are considering this unit, remember one thing: you are not buying a receiver! You are limited to using it as a home theater for DVD only. One of the main problems we had was setting up the speakers. We needed to run the wires under the floor, and this required more wire than was included with the setup. We purchased new wire, only to find that Toshiba uses some unknown connector for their speakers... suffice it to say, it took a computer science engineer and a physics major 4 hours to wire this system by crimping stripped plugs from Radio Shack to fit the connectors. If you've got a big room, don't even consider this system. You will not get the full surround effect unless the speakers are placed correctly. The subwoofer is the absolute worst part of this system, with a built in wire that is not removable! Please people, this is just unacceptable! Why not use the normal "pincher" connectors! If you have an HDTV, why would you pair it with this rock-bottom setup? Spend a few bucks more, get the entry level Sony receiver setup... it's selling at Target as a 5.1 package with 5 speakers and sub for $300. Then go and buy a real progressive scan player, one that doesn't have a 10 second lag to open. This setup is upgradeable, lets you use as much wire as you please with pincher connectors, and can handle all your other devices you may want to input. And it has more power, and more options. Just a thought.
