Summary: Worthless piece of metal.
Review: About four months after buying this product, it quit working. I still get sound, but no picture. Toshiba basically says its out of warranty, call a repair place. The repair place wants a minimum of $125 with no guarantee they can fix it, they actually advised me to toss it and buy a better one! So, my Amazon purchase of $219 got me viewings of about 10 dvds and now its a - rather crummy - cd player. I thought that the speakers were actually pretty poor quality, but figured they would do for movies, I certainly wouldn't listen to quality music on them. These systems seem to be failing about 20% of the time so, if you feel lucky, go ahead and buy, but remember that if you are in the 20% you are basically out your entire purchase price. I will never buy another Toshiba product, or any other manufacturer that only carries a lousy 90 day warranty.

Summary: High Quality, Great Price
Review: After doing a considerable amount of research on 'home theatre in a box' systems, I decided to pick the Toshiba SD-43HT system. My budget was between $250-$300. This was actually priced lower than that, so that was a bonus. More money to spend on DVDs!First - the DVD playback. This is progresive scan, and I have an HDTV. My old DVD player which I've had for a couple of years was not progressive scan, so I was really looking forward to seeing what the big deal was with progressive scan. Wow! After I got the systen set up I popped in "The Fast and the Furious" and cued up the first race scene. The picture was amazing! It is worth noting that I also picked up some Monster Component cables which should also be helping in giving a great picture. The picture was razor sharp and the color was very vivd and true to life. Remember when you first switched over from VHS to DVD? That is what it is like jumping from "regular DVD" to progressive scan on this system. Wow. Next - the sound. This system comes with 5 satellite speakers plus a subwoofer. The sub is not powered, it is passive and gets 70 watts. The satellites are 50 watts/channel. So the sound system comes in at under 400 watts. Most systems in this price range come in around 500, so it isn't as powerful. However, this sytem has excellent sound. Again, the race scene in TF&F looked excellent, and the surround sound was awesome. Very clean, pure digital sound. The subwoofer boomed, and the satellites held there own. It is plenty of power for me. You probably aren't going to "feel" the sub like you would on a high-end system, but thats ok. This system pumps out the sound very well. I plugged my digital cable box into the DVD player/reciever and was plesantly suprised to hear very clean, clear 5.1 surround sound coming out of it. So now recgular televsion can be enjoyed in surround sound! Also, CDs sound great. It even read my MP3 Cd with no problem! Overall I am very happy. I got what I paid for. This is not a $3,000 home theatre system. But it packs a punch for the price for sure. Definitly worth checking out.

Summary: Toshiba SC-43HT lasted less than a year
Review: After less than a year I have the same problem reviewer William Bradley had - DVD is locked up in protection mode. I would be interested in hearing back from Mr. Bradley on what happened as far as repair of his unit with this problem. Otherwise the unit has worked fine - up until now. Will look for a different brand if we have to trash this Toshiba.

Summary: Fantastic Picture
Review: After reading all the reviews on all the HTS found at Amazon I decided to purchase the SD-43HT. Set up was simple and only took about 30 min. I did not experience any great delays for the tray to open - about 3 seconds. The instructions for the remote took some time to figure out. Was hopeing the remote would work the TV but no go! The picture on my Toshiba 36A50 1080i is the best I have ever seen. We watched a few movies and the sound was just great! Watched a music video and felt the sound was excellent. Even the views of the digital displays used during the recording of the video were crystal clear! If you want to spend $10k on a high end system this is not the unit for you! If you want to walk away with $9.8k in your pocket and still have a great system buy it! I think the problems some of the other reviewers had were due to shipping damage. UPS, FEDX and the USPS drop everything at least 1 time and that can be all it takes to damage the electronics in some form or another!

Review: Amazing clarity of sound for an incredibly low proce. Great for smaller rooms. Unpowered subwoofer but good rich bass overall. Progressive scan DVD player is great. I paid $199 for it with free shipping; delivery was prompt. No regrets.

Review: Do not buy this product, $200 to watch 3 movies and a piece of trash. I believe there should be a class action suite against this product! Somebody with the legal expertise should organize this law suit.

Summary: Cheap, Effective, Outstanding!
Review: Earlier this year I was shopping around for a good surround sound system and all I could find were $800 - $1000 Sony or JVC systems at my local retailers Best Buy and Circuit City. I shopped around amazon once and found this great system for only $250! So I snagged it up fearing that it would be gone soon and it has been great. It works perfectly and sounds 10 times better than my parents JVC $1000 surround sound system. It's extremely powerful sound wise, and visually. Also music sounds great on it for parties. Also it plays every kind of cd you could ever think of: VCD, SVCD, DVD-R, MP3 etc. I suggest snagging this great deal immediatly before to many people find out about it and it's sold out. I love mine! No complaints.

Summary: THE BEST DEAL EVER
Review: For all of you who want a cheap reliable home theater system this one is it. I bought the Toshiba SD-KT50 at Sams club for only $200 and added the warrenty for ony $14 this is a extremely good deal. the SD-KT50 may be diffrent from this one at amazon however when I compared the specs it was exactly the same. When I brought it home setup was a breeze and every went very well. However the my right speaker did not work so I had to exchange it for another unit now when I'm watiching the television the left speaker wont work, I just think that I have the settings wrong. THIS IS A GOOD SYSTem

Summary: Same Protection Fault
Review: I am not sure that it lasted more than a month. I don't use it much and am so disappointed that not only do I need to get a new DVD player, but I need a new stereo receiver since I replaced my receiver when I got this system. I will have to look into that class action lawsuit. Save your money do not buy this. The speakers seem pretty good though, so I would like to save them.
