Summary: Good while it lasted.
Review: ***Died in less than 30 days; no luck with getting manufacturer to replace or repair it***

[my original review:]This DVD player (and CD player too) looks great, quite svelte and high tech. It has so far played any format I've thrown at it, and the video quality is nothing short of excellent. The audio outputs are adequate for most anyone's needs.
I've had 2 Apex TVs for some time, and along with this DVD player, I must say they are very good performers at bargain basement prices.

Summary: Dodgy. Get what you pay for.
Review: Ordered it cause it was cheap and seemed to have a lot of features. However, player has been nothing but problems. Often complains about "No Disc" even though a disc is inside. Need to power cycle the player for it to read, sometimes multiple times. Remote sensor is weak and you have to practically be right next to the player for it to register. Player sometimes *crashes* on a dvd layer change. Has problems recognizing and reading many of my dual-layer discs. Navigation of the mp3 and jpeg menus is terrible. SPDIF output has stuttering audio on Dolby Digital 2.0. The list goes on and on. Previously I had a Toshiba brand and Philips brand DVD player and they gave me none of these problems I'm listing here. (To be fair, they didn't support the MP3 or JPEG options, but those are of marginal importance for most people.) My advice: Get a reputable brand.

Summary: For the price it is worth it
Review: This is a pretty good player but not "upto that level". It is slow loading DVDs you can actually go and get something to eat before the DVD is ready to play. Other than that no real complaints. If money is an issue, DEFINITELY buy this player.

Summary: Ouch
Review: I hooked it up and couldnt figure out why it wasnt playing. Then I saw that the dvd disks tray wasnt closing all the way. I'm sure its shipping damage because the whole unit rocks back and forth,(like its bent). If I pushed it closed it worked fine after that. This ones going back to Amazon for a replacement. Maybe it should be packaged better for the rough handling of UPS? Great Player, Great Price, Packaging? UPS?

Summary: Well worth it
Review: This DVD player has every feature that the vast majority of us will ever ask for out of a DVD player and more. It is very solidly built, the picture quality is excellent, and I could not be more satisfied with it at the moment. I'm glad I didn't spend $100+ for one when this is so perfect. I'm sold on Apex.

Summary: Don't Buy This Player
Review: I bought this player and returned it within 1 hour. It took multiple tries to get it to load a disk, it consistently refused to bring up the disc menu, and would not respond to the play button.

Apex has put out good products in the past. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

Avoid this player at all costs!

Free is too much to pay for this player.
(Yes, I am very dissappointed.)

Summary: Full of glitches
Review: Terrible piece of equipment. Will not display JPEG's properly. Background music for slideshows is distorted and frequently does not read disks that are read by other players. My advice, "you get what you pay for".

Summary: A great player for the money!
Review: This model is much nicer looking and can do much more than the one sold at the wal-mart. It's cheaper also, which is unbeliable. Amazon is great. I used the free shipping option but got the item quickly.

I already have expensive DVD and CD players made by Toshiba and Technics but they only play original DVDs or CDs which are in perfect condition. I tested the DVDs and CDs I had troubles with in the past on this machine and it played them all beautifully. I love the way the machine can read the data files (music and video format) and reformat/display as slide show fasion in one single touch! it's very cool. The remote works great and requires only one touch on most fuctions.

The only disk the machine won't play in my test is the CD-RW (rewritable). Over all, it's great machine with a great price.

Summary: What a bargain!!
Review: I got this as a gift for someone recently and it got here surprisingly fast! It is a nice size, I like the new slim-line appearance a lot. For the price, you really get quite a bit! It plays everything, including DVD+R and DVD+RW! It's sturdy enough as well, I'm seriously contemplating buying one for myself! My DVD player is one of the first ones to come out, so it is larger and bulkier than the newer ones on the market. Hard to beat this price as well, especially with the $10 rebate! It's a great buy, and a great gift for someone who wants to make the switch to DVD!
