Summary: Spiritual and with a great heroine
Review: I bought both this and the 1960s Batman movie for my nephew for Christmas. I liked this movie quite a bit more. For one thing, it has a feisty female crusader straight out of Vicki Leon's UPPITY WOMEN OF THE MIDDLE AGES. Although farm girl Kayley is Luke Skywalker-esque, she's definitely no damsel in distress ("What's a damsel?" she asks). Also the wonderful song "The Prayer" infuses the movie with the sort of powerful good-versus-evil struggle Sir Malory and Le Morte D'Arthur would love. An animated companion piece to the miniseries MERLIN.

Summary: TALE OF A KNIGHTESS
Review: QUEST FOR CAMELOT is a charming, if somewhat derivative, animated film the whole family should enjoy. Loosely based on the King Arthur and Excalibur legend, the story follows a young girl whose knight father was murdered by the evil knight Ruber. She enlists the aid of a blind young man and his magic bird, and also a two headed dragon, added for humor and ultimately to help save the day.
With animation reminiscent of early Disney and one CGI segment involving a sleeping ogre, CAMELOT has all the ingredients for a musical toon. The songs written by Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster are more pop oriented but performed well by Bryan White, The Coors, Celine Dion and some of the cast members.
The characters are voiced nicely by Jessica Gelwig (Kayley), Cary Elwes (Garrett), Gary Oldman (Ruber), Jane Seymour (Julianna); Pierce Brosnan (Arthur), and of course Don Rickles/Eric Idle as the dragon.
It's probably not destined to be a classic, but it's fine entertainment for the whole clan.

Summary: 5 stars for a 5 year old, and pleasing for adults
Review: If you are the parent of a young child who trys to see the world as they do (or you would like them to), then you will appreciate this movie. It is certainly not the caliber of Shrek with as many levels of appeal. However, it is fun and displays good core values like a girl being curious, adventurous and mostly able to defend herself. Granted she swoons a bit first and she eventually does need help, but they help each other out of tight spots so what's wrong with that? Also, she swoons for a less than perfect guy who is blind (who is ultimately successful achieving his dream while blind), and the bad guy is someone who wasn't happy sharing. It has funny dragons and swords and I think any young kid would like it - though I would be wary for kids younger than 5 because of the possibility/liklihood of some parts being too scary. My 5 1/2 year old son loves it and we approve, so I am buying it to add to the collection.

Review: I chose to buy this DVD depsite some of the poor reviews and I'm glad I did. I'm constantly lending to my coworkers who have all enjoyed it. It's an excellent movie for any kid or kid at heart.
