Summary: A great follow-up to the 1940 classic
Review: This movie is a worthy successor to the original Fantasia movie. The artwork in all the pieces was superb (although, you could tell the art from "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is old). This movie, as with the original, gave me a greater appreciation of classical music, while entertaining me with impressive visual imagery. The pieces are as follows: Beethoven, Symphony #5. A classical piece of music (who can't identify it upon hearing it?) portrayed as a good vs. evil contest.
Respighi, Pines of Rome. Flying whales!! A great piece of music which builds to a fantastic finish. Has some cute moments with a baby whale.
Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue. Easily the best (and longest) piece in the movie. Done in the drawing style of Al Hirschfeld, a magical tale is told of four people in Depression-era New York. A heartwarming, moving piece.
Shostakovich, Piano Concerto # 2 Allegro Opus 102. A charming piece of music, used to tell the story of the Steadfast Tin Solder. Some of the scenes in this piece may be scary for little kids.
Saint-Saens, Carnival of the Animals, Finale. A (very) short, but very funny piece which answers the age old question: "What happens when you give a flamingo a yo-yo?" I was laughing out loud at this one.
Dukas, The Sorcerer's Apprentice. This is the same piece as from the original 1940 movie. Still worth watching after all these years.
Elgar, Pomp and Circumstance. Donald and Daisy Duck star in this reinactment of the story of Noah's Ark. Fun to watch and enjoyable.
Stravinsky, Firebird Suite. A wonderful story about life, death and rebirth. The piece builds to a wonderful ending, both in the story and in the music. Some of the younger children may be scared by some of the scenes in this piece as well.
Overall, this movie is a wonderful addition to any home video library.

Beethoven's Symphony No.5 Abstract images tell the tale of good vs. evil. Carnival Of The Animals What happens when you give a yo-yo to a pink flamingo? The Sorcerer's Apprentice Returning favorite from the original in which Mickey gets into magical mischief.

Summary: One of my favourites of all time!!
Review: This is a great movie..but maybe that is only becuase I love classical music. Although, the music was changed(butchered) to met the needs of time, the compilement of the music was fantastic. Yes, I watched the original Fantasia when I was little and thought it was great, but that doesn't mean that we must compare the original to this one! Yes, the segments were shorter, but jeez, come on, some of those segments in the original Fantasia were a bit too long and easily forgetful...i.e. Stravinsky "rite of spring" and Beethovens "Pastoral symphony." These segments are great ways for children to see something fun,discover the beauty of classical music, and even have a tender parent-child conversation about. This movie was made for the children of today(not adults), not of yesteryear, so stop griping about it.
Personally my favourite segment is The Stedfast Tin Solider with Shostakovich's Piano Concerto 2, followed by Daisy and Donalds segment with Elgars Pomp and Circumstance..but they were all great!! As a person learning of the classical music genre, this film has helped me have points to jump off and do research and find music!

Summary: MIND-BLOWING
Review: The new Fantasia 2000 follows the original's artistic vision, providing "music videos" of exquisite animation to classical pieces of fully orchestrated music. And like the original, this film is one of those mind-blowing experiences that is mesmerizing, entertaining, moving and outrageously creative. Some pieces are better than others, most notably Pines of Rome, which features a dream-like world of flying, swimming whales in a narrative-type scenario, and Rhapsody in Blue, which tells its own urban story in Hirschfeld-style animation that looks as if it were imagined at the same precise moment as the music itself. The Steadfast Tin Soldier and Pomp and Circumstance, along with an encore of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, feature more family-friendly characters, including Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and a heartbreaking little tin Soldier with one leg. This movie is so rich with imagery and imagination that I think the only problem with it is that unless you have a large-screen TV, you will be missing its true glories.

Summary: A great followup to a Disney classic.
Review: Alive with music and brilliant animation the new Fantasia2000 film is not an instant Disney classic but it is a definate must see. It is not as good as the original but it is just as vibrant and colorful. This film has something that the original did not have, celebrities. Steve Martin, Better Midler, and Angela Lansbury introduce some of the musical pieces. The animation is really beautiful to watch. I highly reccomend this film.

Summary: IN MY OPINION, THIS FANTASIA IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST
Review: We own both the original Fantasia, AND 2000, and we all agree: FANTASIA 2000 IS OUR FAVORITE CHOICE! My 5 year old daughter couldn't even make it through the first Fantasia, because of the fact it's so long and drawn out. It quickly became boring to her! However, Fantasia 2000 holds her interest every time! In this masterpiece production, Disney has done a FANTASTIC job of melding classical music and animation - with a NEW twist this time; A LITTLE HELP FROM THE COMPUTER! I think everyone will have their "favorite piece" from this collection; mine happens to be the New York City scene done to Rhapsody In Blue. It's such a wonderful story - the end always leaves me with such a warm and happy feeling inside! My daughter's favorite piece is the one that answers the question: What happens when you give a flamingo a yo-yo? It's zany and silly and always leaves a smile on her face! I think Fantasia 2000 is the perfect way to introduce classical music to a young child. It also makes for the perfect family viewing experience, as everyone discusses what exactly THEY think is going on in the cartoon! In my opinion, Fantasia 2000 is a must for EVERY Disney collection. It's surely a DVD that you will enjoy viewing over and over again - and NEVER grow tired of!

Review: This is a great movie. There's great music, cool animation, a feast for all of your senses. It's really a wonderful and unique experience, different even from the first Fantasia. It may not be for everybody, though. On discerning reviewer (bra1n1ac) didn't care for it because there were famous actors doing the intros to the pieces. Of course, these ae talented professionals, but if you don't care for good performances then this moght not be for you. Bra1n1ac also claims that this film can never be a masterpiece, so I looked at his other reviews. He gave five stars to Scooby Doo: Zombie Island and Scooby Doo: The Witch's Ghost. I highly reccommend this movie to everyone, except maybe people who consider Scooby-Doo to be the ultimate animatoin masterpiece.

Summary: Bad Contrasts in the Film's Ending!
Review: The Firebird Suite is not a very good way to end this film! The contrast from a delicate slow melody to a terrifying dance is so strange because that never happened in the original Fantasia. The Firebird really stinks because the upbeat parts in the piece are scary no matter what the mood is. Here's a good slogan for the piece: Wagner's Parsifal to the tunes of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite because most of the music is slow. Towards the end, instead of the music getting faster and bustles to general rejoicing, the conductor maintains his slow tempo. That's really strange and imitates Wagner's Parsifal. Not a very good recommendation for a last piece for Fantasia 2000. I hope that the next Walt Disney film there is out there does not have bad contrasts like this film does. This is like having Coral from Finding Nemo being eaten in a not-so-great part for her to die in the movie. The Firebird Suite and Coral's Death tie as being the worst. Period.

Review: This brilliant follow-up to the 1940 Disney masterpiece " Fantasia" offers even more stories that beautifully blend state of the art animation, special effects and music to help build the movie. There are 5 different stories hosted by celebrities like James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, Steve Martin, Quincy Jones and Angela Lansbury.
The stories are beautifully well animated and done all the way. The music scores of such popular artists like Beethoeven to Gershwen are simply excellent, the animated segments sometimes uses fine CGI and hand-drawn animation to suck you into the world of Fantasia.
A must see movie and the DVD is great too!
