Summary: Trip Back in TIme with a Glimpse of The Future
Review: This is one of my all-time favorite movies and always will be. Partly because of the memories it brings back, and partly bcus of the sensation you get from truly watching the movie. Today Japanese animation is the big rage, but what most people dont realize is this is what started showing americans japanese animation. The scene where Prime says Megatron must be stopped, is pure action. If you have seen alot of anime (japanese animation) you will see traces of it in here. It is a non-stop thrill to the senses. The soundtrack is all 80s rock which is really the best type. All in all, a great viewing experience. Enjoy!

Summary: Comparisons between Canada and U.S. versions:
Review: As a long time fan of Transformers, watching every series since the beginning, I can remember watching this movie in the theatres with my mom. Boy did she ever not enjoy it! But it brought a sense of excitement that no other movie has ever done in my life. Yeah, I think this movie/DVD has been reviewed to death, but as one of the millions of fans out here, I feel obligated to make a comparison. First of all, the Canadian DVD version made by Seville...(um, who?) has ABSOLUTELY NO EXTRAS WHATSOEVER! Now doesn't that make you all feel a little better? I can't believe I shelled out money for a DVD with NOTHING extra on it!! Purely the fact that your DVD version has what it has makes it MORE than worth it. If you are a fan, buy this version. 'Nuff said.

Summary: Transformers movie is the best animated movie ever
Review: The transformers movie is truely a great movie. It mad me laugh, it made me cry. I just wonder what happens to Optimus Prime's trailer when he transforms? The only thing that would make this movie better would be if the big transforming planet won and all the transformers died.

Summary: Bitter sweet describes this trip back to childhood
Review: No doubt hidden in the 271 reviews that precedes my own you will find many of my ideas and thoughts about this movie. No matter, I still feel obligated to share what this movie meant and continues to mean to me. To begin, credit must be given to the composer and artist of this film. While, although sometimes a bit cheesy (ie. that same choo-choo-train sewer music playing whenever unicron appeares, which is borrowed from from ROCKY IV), the music does energize the film at times and makes for a great soundrack. Next, despite what some others have said, the animation for this film was great for its time. I mean, who could ever forget that scene when Optimus decides, "Megatron must be stopped--no matter what the cost," and leaps into action blasting away. That's the stuff great memories are made of. Conversely, however, the plot of this movie made perfect sense when I was ten years old, but now seems a bit weak. But what can you expect? After all, it IS--or WAS--a childrens cartoon. More than anything I think this film represents the end of an era. While kids still have vivid imaginations and continue to love cartoons, I wonder if they will obsess over them (running home from school to make sure you didn't miss a minute) like we did. In these days of powerfull computers, DVDs, and Wallmart(hehe), I don't know if things will ever be the same. Bottom line, I love this movie not only for what it is( a childrens cartoon), but for what we made it( a legend that defines a generation). Autobots, transform and roll out.

Summary: My favorite movie finally on DVD
Review: I was about 5 and whenever my parents took me to the movie store all I ever wanted to rent was Transformers and Gijoe the movies. That christmas my parents bought me original copies of both, which I watch still to this day. Just this past christmas I was overjoyed to recieve the DVD. To see the colors as vibrantes and hear the song, I also recieved the soundtrack. To me as a kid and now this movie represents the greatest view of heroism. The sacrafice of Prime and the never say die attitude of the autobots overcome the evil of unicron. I strongly recommend this movie which means a lot to me and still brings a tear to my eyes!

Summary: FINALLY ON DVD!
Review: If you are looking for the "original" transformers, this is the one to get. I loved them as a kid growing up but never got to see the "Movie" at the theater. Many years later I bought this DVD and it conjured up delightful memories. The characters are the same as the original series but this movie seemed to have a different feel to it, maybe the change was for the big screen. Whatever the difference, it is well worth the price...besides, why buy it on VHS when you can get the DVD for the same price? I didn't give it 5 stars only because it is not in widescreen (since I missed it at the theater, I would like to get the complete aspect of the picture). I am satisfied with my purchase, and thanks Amazon!

Summary: My lord what was I thinking??
Review: I remember loving this film as a kid, if only I knew then what I know now. Lets start with the nitty gritty, if you look at this film from an objective (ie: non nostalgic) viewpoint it clearly can't stack up to all the hype and almost legendary status that the "80's generation" (myself included) have given it.Let me start with the film's good points, the opening scenes introducing Unicron, the giant planet devouring monster were truly dramatic, and to some degree so was the battle at autobot city. Most of the drama comes from the exceptional Vince DiCola musical score which complements the moods of the scenes really well. The other point of drama comes from the simple fact that almost every character you've known and loved for years is brutally massacred, and while this does underscore the direness of the situation and the feeling of impending doom, it's impossible to ignore the fact that the whole point was to introduce a new and equally profitable new line of toys. "Out with the old, in with the new" is the order of the day, but most of the characters are just as flat and lifeless as just about all of the old characters. This is what happens when a popular toy spawns an animated movie, you end up with a sort of "story by committee" where the number one goal is to simply create an 86 minute commercial for the next line of action figures. Even voicework by Judd Nelson, Eric Idle, Robert Stack, Leonard Nimoy and the late Orson Welles can't pull this film up from the mire of minimal plot, nonexistant characterization, sub par animation and effects (even for 1986), horrible dialogue and a soundtrack that flits around erratically from an excellent score to absolutely cheese-laden, over the top hair band metal to (of all things) Weird Al Yankovic? As for DVD extras, TFTM contains a short (but hellishly long) interview with the composer of the film score, but while the score may be great, sitting through this "who cares?" interview by the former Rocky IV music man is possibly even more painful than the movie itself, and it only lasts a few minutes!! I probably won't look at Transformers for a great source of nostalgia like millions of other children of the 80's... now, nausea on the other hand....

Summary: This DVD may as well be VHS
Review: I buy DVD's for 3 reasons: 1. To get the artist's original vision of the film (ie no pan&scan) 2. To get "extras" like trailers, director's commentary, etc. 3. To get superior picture quality. This title lacks all 3. 1. The movie has been "panned & scanned" 2. There are NO extras (except a few story boards). 3. The picture quality is fine, but it's still a digital image of hand-drawings. Save yourself some money, and buy this title on VHS (I now have both VHS & DVD of this title, and the DVD was a waste). You might not get to hear spike swear, but it will show those producing these discs that we demand quality above that of a standard tape to be worth the money.

Summary: Even After All These Years
Review: This movie is a must have for fan of anything Transformers. Even if you don't know Optimus from Megatron, you will enjoy this movie. This movie introduces many new good and bad guys into the world of Transformers, also you witness the deaths of many old faces. I had seen it on video, and now own it on DVD, this unedited DVD version helps push the story along better than the VHS one. Plus you hear stuff that you wouldn't think you'd hear (Spike says the s word). If you like anything Transformers, or anime, you MUST buy this item. I promise you that you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Great, but could have been better
Review: I have read many of the reviews for this DVD here on Amazon and around the web. Some were glowing and others tarnished. For myself I have to lean to the happy side as I am glad that they finally released it on DVD in the so called uncut version. I would, however, feel amiss if I did not mention my dismay at seeing the DVD called the Special Collector's Edition when it had very little on it. I was hoping for more, much more. Perhaps they could have included other interviews or documentaries, which I'm sure were made. Perhaps some of the trailers or even, say, widescreen should have seen the light of day. While I am happy to hear Spike curse I felt cheated that such a rich history that is involved in the Transformers Universe should not even be glanced upon. However, even after all this ranting I am still glad to have this movie. I'm hoping that the episodes are soon to come, with several (like 5-10) per DVD. Well I can hope can't I? I guess this is an okay DVD.
