Summary: "New Groove", the funniest of Walt Disney's features...
Review: Even if you do not like Disney's post-"Lion King" attempts, you still have to give the studio credit for making each movie so diverse from each other. "The Emperor's New Groove", is without a doubt the most comical of Disney's movies. Odd thing is, that if you weren't to see the "Walt Disney Pictures" intro, you would'nt know it was Disney. This is becuase "New Groove" departs in both animation & story-telling styles that has been Disney's trademark. This film is narrated by the film's main character, Emperor Kuzco, and has more of a fast pace Saturday morning cartoon feel to it (that's not a bad thing, BTW).In the story of trying to destroy the emperor but instead turning him into a Llama, the villains once again steal the show. However, unlike "Hercules", the good guys are characters you like and care about. It's just that Yzma (probably the most outragoeus of all the Disney villains) and Kronk have all the qualities of live action comedian, including timeing and style that makes you want to laugh. Kuzco and Pacha, have funny moments to, but some of them are forced. The DTS 5.1 track on the DVD is awesome, and the digital-to-digital transfer is flawless. It is a whole lot more comedic than "Aladdin", but it's not the same type of movie. "Aladdin" has comedic releif, in an otherwise serious adventure tale. While, "The Emperor's New Groove" has some dramatic relief in an otherwise hysterical adventure tale. Great submission from Disney!

Review: My kids watch this one all the time. My youngest just loves it, she laughs through the whole movie (and so do!) David Spade is hilarious as Kuzko the self obsorbed Prince turned Llama, and John Goodman plays a heartwarming Pacha, the peasent who's home Kuzko wants to destroy to make his dream vacation spot. Two thumbs way up!

Summary: Where's Bugs Bunny?
Review: The Emperor's New Groove is like a Bugs Bunny and friends cartoon but is missing Bugs Bunny & Friends. David Spade is the voice of a young full of himself emperor named Kuzco. He catchs his advisor named Yzma (Eartha Kitt) trying to run the kingdom and fires her. Yzma decides to get back at her ex-boss and try to posion him. And she works out her plan with her right-hand man named Kronk (Patrick Warburton). But instead of poison him, Kuzco gets turned into a llama. A man named Pacha (John Goodman) finds him. Kuzco hopes to built a summer home on Pacha's land. But Pacha doesn't want that to happen. So Pacha strikes a deal with Kuzco that he will help him through the jungle if Kuzco will break ground somewhere else. Wendie Malick plays John Goodman's wife. This movie was going to have songs all over the place but Disney cut the film and drawed up new things and made this out of it. Hey kids, if your parents gives you trouble tben turn them into llamas.

Summary: Disney surprises with a truly original gem!!
Review: "The Emperor's New Groove" is one of the lightest, most fun, and hilarious cartoons in recent memory. And no, this one, unlike recent Disney movies is not an animated motion picture...it is a cartoon, plain and simple. A cartoon that breaks almost all of Disney's regular rules. What do I mean by that? What is the normal Disney formula? Musical numbers. Love story. Beautiful heroine. Handsome, strong hero. Touching morals. "The Emperor's New Groove" has none of that (almost)! In this story, the lead character is a nasty S.O.B. for most of the movie, and his lovable sidekick is the true hero. And the only possible moral, about how it's more important to be a good person than a powerful leader, is so subtle and underplayed that it's almost non-existent. No, this movie does not exist to give lessons to children or to display the usual classic coming-of-age story Disney is famous for. This movie exists purely to entertain with animated shenanigans. And when I said "cartoon," I meant it. Not in a long time has there been a Disney movie where the characters practically KNOW they're cartoon characters. These characters gleefully flaunt their ability to exist in a world where they could run off a cliff, keep walking, realize there's no ground beneath them, look at each other, then at the audience, and then...fall. Just like an old Warner Bros. or Chuck Jones cartoon! This film really recaptured all the fun antics that cartoon characters can have because they do not have to abide by the laws of the real world. They can turn into other creatures. They can crash into walls and never get hurt (even though their faces might get flattened), etc. etc. At one point, the main character even interrupts the movie, steps in front of the cell, and starts drawing on it like a storyboard. That reminded me so much of the old Looney Tune where Daffy Duck is drawn into tons of different scenes by a wisecracking cartoonist who turns out to be Bugs Bunny. Disney doesn't seem to have had this much fun since the Genie from "Aladdin" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." If you're in the mood for a fun cartoon, I'd especially recommend this movie to adults who are fans of Looney Tunes, Chuck Jones, Hannah Barbera...anything on the Cartoon Network. Remember, you are not seeing a kid's movie. But a glorious, wonderful...cartoon! And if you are going to buy it, you must buy the 2-Disc "Ultimate Groove" set. It is amazing, with an entire extra disk that is literally a "film-school-in-a-box". It leads you through the entire process of creating a cartoon, from storyboards to sketches to the finished product. You see cartoonists, the actors who do the voices, and get to see the insides of the Disney studios. You don't even get this close on the tour of the animation stuidos when you go to Disney World. It is truly a fascinating, very detailed look at the making of a movie. The packaging is also wonderful. The cover art is some of the coolest I've ever seen for a DVD. I'd rank it up there with "Fight Club" as the best cover art for a DVD available now.

Summary: Living proof that Dinosaurs once ruled the earth
Review: Emperor Kuzco (who thinks, "It's All About... me") is turned into a llama by his ex-administrator Yzma, and must now regain his throne with the help of Pacha, the gentle llama herder.
The Emperor's New Groove is an extremely underrated Disney movie. It is extremely fun, funny, entertaining, and short. Wait, short was the only negative aspect of the movie I wanted to place in my review. The Emperor's New Groove was only 77 minutes, which is extremely short for how good this movie was. I could easily watch a 90-minute version of this movie with its wonderful characters.
David Spade plays Emperor Kuzco, who cares nothing for his people, and only of his own simple entertainment, luxuries, and the fact he is indeed the Emperor. The Emperor's New Groove is about his transformation (in multiple ways) to becoming a good emperor and good person. Spades melodramatic voice was perfect for the part.
John Goodman plays the role of Pacha, the llama herder. He is a simple man, with simple expectations in life, and a wonderful family. He starts the movie by wanting nothing but to serve the emperor, and finds himself trying to change the emperor mind, while making him a better person. Goodman's jolly personality, again, made him the perfect voice for the character of Pacha. He was good enough in The Emperor's New Groove for Disney to invite him back for Monsters Inc.
Eartha Kitt (Boomerang) plays the evil Yzma, has a wonderful voice, very snake like. Her characters face in the cartoon has very distinct characteristics to her own. It's almost uncanny. Also, her ingenious colleague, Kronk, played by Patrick Warburton (Men in Black II, The Tick, Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story, Joe Swanson in The Family guy), was my favorite character. Warburton has a brilliant voice, and always sounds serious, which made this role brilliant, as Kronk is anything but.
In all, The Emperor's New Groove is one of the more under rated Disney movies of all time in my opinion. It is definitely worth watching, and in my opinion belongs in your DVD collection. I feel it is a movie that not many have given a chance, and surprises me how many people tell me they have not seen this movie. Give it one good rental, you'll like it.

Review: This has got to be our family's favorite new Disney picture. My husband, a working bass player, plays the theme song over and over. My 5-year-old laughs so hard she gets hiccups, which makes it funnier for us, her parents, because we know she isn't getting half of the jokes. And this cast, it is just perfect for this movie. I have lent this movie out to people who have never heard about it and they cannot believe they never heard of it. The artwork is lush, the characters are out of this world, and, believe it or not, the lesson sinks in. True definition of a sleeper. See for yourself.

Summary: One of their best
Review: I have four needs ranging in ages from nine down to two. What this means is that I have seen pretty much every Disney flick over and over and over again. While I like many of the more recent crop (starting in the early 90's), this is definitely one of my favorites. For some reason, it seems to have been pretty much ignored by the Disney marketing machine, actually being released in November, but it's crisp dialog, fantastic vocal work (David Spade and Patrick Warburton are standouts, but the entire cast is very good), fast pace and beautiful scenery not only keep my kids interested, but also have enough to make it palatable for adults. My criteria for a good kids movie is one that I don't mind watching more than once. This one definitely passes. It's a choice that you won't be disappointed with.

Summary: Disney?
Review: I am not a Disney fan. The only Disney film I have unconditionally liked is Sleeping Beauty. I barely tolerated The Beauty and the Beast, and hate most of the rest of the bunch.
Why, I definitely loved this movie, which does not look at all as a movie for children, being full of historical, ethnografic, social, sexual, political, zoological references which should be lost on them. Strangely enough, my four years old son is crazy for it too.
