Summary: The Hobbit
Review: "The Hobbit" is a great animated movie classic for you and the entire family to watch and enjoy! It is filled with adventure, fantasy, and excitement. "The Hobbit" animated movie is a great adaptation of the author J.R.R. Tolkiens book "The Hobbit or There And Back Again" which I have read. There are many fantasy characters from the book that are in this great animated movie. And those fantasy characters are: trolls; goblins; a terrible creature called Gollum; huge spiders; elves; a dragon; a hobbit; a wizard; and dwarves. I highly recommend you buy this movie for DVD or VHS if you are a "Lord of the Rings" book trilogy, or movie trilogy, fan. "The Hobbit", as you probably already know, is a prequel to "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Summary: Good adaptation of the Tolkien Masterpiece
Review: I first saw the Hobbit when I was about 12 years old. It made me ask my dad a lot of questions about literature. Later on in life, when I was about 18, I started to read a lot of books. I remebered this childhood classic, and I quickly went out and read the book by J.R.R. Tolkien. Soon after reading the book, I went into a Tolkien craze and I went out and bought the video to watch again. This video is simply a charming little cartoon that pretty much accurately represents the style of Tolkien. It is definitely not as morbid as the cartoon "The Lord of the Rings" directed by Ralph Bashki in 1979, but then again "The Hobbit" is not as morbid a book as the fascinating trilogy "Lord of the Rings". This movie is wonderful for introducing the kids to Tolkien's works for the first time, but it is also great to watch even if you are an adult fan. I warn you though if you are expecting a gothic and graphic representation, you will not be happy. The fight and battle scenes are very kiddy and the evil things represented are not really evil enough. All of this being said, however, this movie still somehow manages to capture the spirit of "The Hobbit". John Huston is the voice of Gandalf, and there is not a better Gandalf-sounding voice that I have ever heard. The animation of Bilbo(and the rest of the Hobbits), the dwarves, the elves, and the Goblins are all pretty much how I pictured them while reading the books. Like the opening theme song says "the greatest adventure is the one that lies ahead". Start your adventure today by ordering this classic video.

Review: This is a great movie, but only one thing would make it better: THEY NEED TO MAKE A SOUNDTRACK CD!!!!! Some songs, like the Elves' "Tra-la-la-lalley", the Wood-elves "Rollin' Down the Hole", and the Dwarves' "Far O'er the Misty Mountains Cold" are being talked over by characters. Sondtracks make movies better.

Tolkiens book "The Hobbit Or There And Back Again" which I have read. And those fantasy characters are: trolls, goblins, a terrible creature named Gollum, a dragon, a hobbit, a wizard, and dwarves. Some reviewers on this site are complaining about sound problems with the DVD version of "The Hobbit" and I totally beleive them because I own "The Hobbit" animated movie on both VHS and DVD. Well guess what? I happen to own the 1996 VHS version of "The Hobbit", and I have noticed that even the new 2001 VHS version also has sound problems too because I have watched the new 2001 VHS version with my friend, who owns it, at his house. Oh well, I guess that is just the way things are in the world. But the sound problems with the DVD and new 2001 versions of "The Hobbit" animated movie are not all that bad. All it is is that some sound effects from the older versions of "The Hobbit" have been cut out. It doesn't bother me much. All in all "The Hobbit" animated movie is a great classic for the entire family. I highly recommend you buy this movie for VHS or DVD if you are a "Lord Of The Rings" book or movie fan because "The Hobbit", as you probably know is a prequal to "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy.

Summary: Good Introduction For Kids But Not Great
Review: In all honesty this is a very good movie. The problem is that the book is rather dark for children. So it would be rather difficult to do a cartoon movie adaptation. However, having said that. The movie isn't so bad. I think it is a good classic for kids and a nice way to introduce the author to kids.

Review: I don't see what is so wrong with this movie:The Hobbit, based on the classic by J.R.R. Tolkien, is a movie with many charms of its own. It features a delightful, if not all-star cast, exceptionally good animation and, most importantly, a good adaption. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit, who likes nothing but to blow smoke rings and to enjoy meals in his hobbit hole. One day, Gandalf the Grey, the wandering wizard askes Bilbo to join him and his dwarves on a dark and dangerous adventure to recapture a treasure stolen from them so many years ago. This delightful feature only has a few minor differences than the book, and is a worthy film for fans who have read the book and wish to add more to their middle-earth experience.

Summary: Childhood magic
Review: I think some reviewers are taking out their frustrations that LOTR hasn't been made into an adult movie or series of movies - until now, that is (DAYS before it comes out - can't WAIT!!). The animated Hobbit and Return of the King are for children, it's true, and LOTR and Hobbit definitely are adult stories. But I saw both of these animated films as a child, and have loved them for many years. (Bakshi left me with a sour stomach, but I probably need to go back and revisit it now as an adult...) What a wonderful introduction to the world of Middle Earth, and what a great sense of childlike magic they brought into my life. I think they are truly classic cartoons. Dated? Not to me. The bard-like voice of Glen Yarborough (sp?) and all the songs in Hobbit and ROTK still make me smile. It may seem silly, but the scene where Bilbo climbs high above Mirkwood is one of my favorite moments in cinema. I say drop your expectations of a literal interpretation of Tolkien, impossible to do in any one movie, and enjoy with all your childhood wonder. It works for me, every time I watch them!

Summary: "THE GREATEST ADVENTURE..."
Review: "The Hobbit" is one of the finest animated films ever produced. It features some beautiful music, as well as some fine talent in the voicing of the characters (including John Huston as Gandalf and Orson Bean as Bilbo). Where Ralph Bakshi's "The Lord of the Rings" fails due to some lackluster animation, the scenery and characters in "The Hobbit" are beautifully rendered! Any Tolkien fan will not want to miss this!

Summary: Better Than the book
Review: The Cartoon mobie is full of action an adventures. This movie had be at aw from the giant spiders to Smaug. The charaters voice are woonderful. Golloum is marvelous he is terryfying and scary looking. Some thing s from the book like the skin Channger have been cut out. Smaug is very well petrayed he is evil nasty and wicked. If I had a website for the 300 evils villians sSmaug would be the 12th. Smaug is evil but I have seen better betrayted villians. The spiders are huge an intimidate the trolls look realistic. There has been to know plans to remake it yet that I am aware of. If you like this I also recommend Willow which is similar to the Hobbit. As for the Lord of the rings I recomend the remakes the original is okey but not as good.

Review: MOVIE:
That about sums it up. This is a beautiful and stunning adaptation of the book. Who would guess the geniuses behind "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" made this? The only complaint that I have is that they showed the dwarves arrive at Bilbo's place all at once. Didn't they arrive one by one? SONGS:
The songs are all wonderful, and almost all of them come from the book (with the esception of "The Greatest Adventure"). My personal favorite is the goblins' song ("Down, down to Goblin Town...") CHARACTERS:
The characters are absolutely beautiful. They are exactly what I pictured them to be when I read the book. They fit Tolkien's descriptions perfectly (with the possible execptions of Dori, Nori, and Ori's hood colors being different, changing Oin and Gloin to Oincer and Doincer and their hood colors, changing Bifur and Bofur to Biffer and Boffer, and making Dwalin have a white beard instead of a blue one). VOICES:
The voice talents are superb. Personally, I think John Huston is a better Gandalf than Ian McKellen and Orson Bean is better at Bilbo than Ian Holm is (no offense to them; they're great, too). Gollum is absolutely creepy. Richard Boone is a perfect Smaug. OVERALL SUMMARY:
Great movie. Show it to the kids and introduce them to the world of Tolkien. After your kids have seen this one, show them the animated "The Return of the King" and, when they're older, really stun them with Peter Jackson's Trilogy.
