Summary: Neither one nor the other.
Review: This movie tries to be a serious Tarzan movie and a typical cutesy Disney cartoon at the same time, and it just doesn't work. The juxtaposition of wisecracking animal pals and a would-be adult adventure story is jarring at best. Phil Collins music, though good, is misplaced. Is there anyone who can ruin a scene better than Rosie O'Donnel? If this movie had focused on Tarzan trying to find acceptance among the apes and finally confronting the leopard that killed his parents, it might have had something. If it had simply gone with the adult Tarzan learning to relate to Jane (and cut the silliness WAY down) it might have had something. You want some advice? If you want to see an animated adventure about a boy growing up in the jungle with good music, plot and voice acting, go see Disney's 1967 Jungle Book. Walt did it first and best. And if you want to see a Tarzan movie, go see the 1930's versions. No one has ever topped them. Disney should stick to childrens fairy tales (they never miss with those) and the PC idiots of the world should stop trying to make Tarzan into something he's not.

Review: One of the best ever Disney Animated movies. The picturisation and the Sound track are too good to be true....this is not just kids stuff!! The DVD also has some nice additional features, including an informal recording session with N'Sync & Phil Collins.

Summary: great retelling of well-worn story
Review: I never have found out how many screen versions of 'Tarzan' Hollywood has put out over the years, but this version simply has to be one of the best. Inspired vocal casting, fantastic songs by Phil Collins(who won an oscar for his work), and some incredible animation make a very special film. It's solid from the beginning, showing Tarzan's parents surviving a shipwreck, through their deaths at the hands of a leopard, to his discovery by and childhood with a lonely female gorilla, through his adolescence and bewilderment at being so diferent from everyone else. I ask you, who hasn't felt like a total outsider at some point in their life? Disney's animators captured that feeling flawlessly in this film. His happiness at finding others like himself, his joy in discovering what it is to be human, his love for Jane, and his real pain at choosing to be with her intsead of his adopted mother. What an emotional roller-coaster. The last third of the movie really picks up steam when a member of the human party takes over and tries to capture the animals to take back to London for money, and battles Tarzan in a climactic battle at the end. This film stands as one of the best produced by the Disney Studio, and I loved it the first time I saw it in theaters, and it was one I quickly added to my DVD collection. Watch, and enjoy!

Review: The Collector's Edition of Tarzan contains material that every Disney fan/collector will enjoy. It's worth the extra money to upgrade to the collector's edition of this movie.

Summary: The last of the great Disney animated movies?
Review: Just when I thought every possible Tarzan movie had long ago been filmed, along came Disney with this new animated version. Of course, it is a natural for Disney, and the only real surprise is that the mighty company didn't think to do it years ago. Since Disney brought its animated feature film division back to life with The Little Mermaid, the titles with the most commercial success have been those that have appealed equally to boys and to girls. Tarzan certainly fits that mold.Since the media has the 'nag factor' down to a science, most parents with kids under ten years old will rent this video whether they want to or not. [When I was a kid, you weren't likely to get something if you nagged your parents about it. Things change!] Fortunately, Tarzan is good fun. Much of the animation is formula Disney, though there are two or three scenes that are breathtakingly original. Some excellent actors put their voice talents to good use. Especially effective are Tony Goldwyn as Tarzan, Minnie Driver as Jane and Rosie O'Donnell as Terk, Tarzan's best gorilla friend. There were a couple of factors which diminished Disney's recent in-house animated features. Pocahontas and Mulan suffered from weak story lines and mediocre music. Tarzan is strong in both areas. The only weakness in the story is the rather arbitrary inclusion of a villain named Clayton. The story doesn't really need him. Children will relate to the obvious problems Tarzan faces as a boy. How does a boy who has never seen another human being fit in among apes, monkeys and elephants? They will delight in Jane and Prof. Porter, her father. Adults should like them, too. There is no weakness in the music. Phil Collins composed a great group of songs. As a result, I imagine Tarzan will be the next Disney product to make it to the Broadway stage. As a kid, I had nightmares after seeing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This made me forever aware that Disney movies can scare some children. I would say the scare rating for Tarzan is about a five on a scale of one to ten. The villain and his not-so-merry men are fairly tame. The same cannot be said about a dreadful leopard that menaces Tarzan and his ape family. I do not mean to imply that the folks at Disney have ever knowingly scarred a child psychologically. It's just that you know what gets to your own kids. After all, you're the one that has to deal with any fallout. On the other hand, how does a modern parent prevent a modern kid from seeing a movie like this?

Summary: Funny and clever
Review: This movie is beautifully animated and has a clever plot. There are some scary parts with the mean cat at the beginning that might be a bit too much for very young children. It certainly was for mine. Probably wouldn't be a problem for children 4-5 and above. It has many comical parts and Rosie O'Donnell's little monkey character was very delightful. Really worth watching.

Review: This movie not for small children! I have a 4 year old and I regret letting her watch it. It is so incredibly sad and terribly violent for a children's film. I was shocked! If you or your child have any empathy at all - don't watch it! I would give it zero stars if I could.

Review: this was a pretty good one for disney. it had heart and good entertainment. however i felt the for young kids this would not be the best because the movie stars with so much vilonece with taraza parents and the baby goriila getting kiiled.

Summary: Great New School Disney Film!
Review: First off this is one of Disney's best DVD's the Tarzan 2 Disc set. This also is a very enjoyable fun moive. The movie has a nice message to it also. It stresses the importance of family which is a good thing. Also the film is humerous and not in a crude way. The only thing that I don't like in this film is Rosie O'Donnell, well at least I don't have to look at her which is a film, who cares 5 star film and DVD!

Summary: There's some good work here.
Review: In a bit of a turnabout for Disney, the main characters have some depth and complexity, while the sidekicks get the stock, throwaway personalities. Minnie Driver brings Jane to life as a believable person: talented, sincere, pensive, and self-conscious. It's a good match for Tarzan, who displays the same traits in a person with a completely different background. The exploration of the theme of identity is woven through the story without being distracting. The only weaknesses are the tendencies to overdo a few segments: heartstring-tugging throughout the infant sequence, the baboon chase, and the various fight sequences rocketing around the treetops. The ending screamed "kids' movie", but was cute enough to forgive. The animation is Disney's usual high quality. Characters all move so naturally that you hardly question even supernatural acts. There are some really beautiful I-want-to-live-there jungle scenes, as well as some unfortunately obvious CGI elements.
