Summary: This, unfortunately, has to be my favorite movie
Review: For all those people who are totally tearing the movie, you will probably grow up to be critics. It IS true that the movie will never be on any The Best of The Century's Movies list, but if you're looking for entertainment: Mario Bros. are your men. The movie is not made to be believable: two "brothers" get trapped in another dimension while trying to save Luigi's kind of girlfriend, who happens to be the princess of this strange world. The princess is trying to reverse the damage King Koopa did to her father (he turned him into a giant ball of fungus). In the end, the Mario Bros. save the day (did you expect a different ending?). Don't expect a recreation of the game; this movie is a far cry from any version of Super Mario. I have watched and rewatched this movie since I was little and I STILL have to say that it is my favorite. The plot line is a wee bit out there, yes; it's not like the game, that's true; all the aspiring critics out there will not get into it, unfortunately; but for all you normal people out there who don't care what the rest of the world thinks about reality and just want a nice, quiet night to yourself or with a loved one: check this out.

Summary: Brooklyn Boys Rule
Review: Like Brooklyn guido-hero Tony Manero of Fever, Mario & Luigi give you something to cheer for in this goofy but fun movie. When I first saw this flick in 1993, I was a little dissapointed considering I was 11 and was sitting there constantly looking for video game comparisons (like why doesn't Luigi have a mustache and why is Koopa a human) instead of enjoying the movie for what it was: a good time. Now, ten years later I relived this film for the second time and now I love it! Let me tell you why. First of all, Hoskins ("Eddie Valiant" in Roger Rabbit) and Leguizamo ("Benny Blanco from the Bronx" in Carlito's Way) are absolutely perfect casting choices. Lou Albano and the other guy that played Mario and Luigi in the old live action TV show were good too but Hoskins and Leguizamo are far better. The special effects were cutting edge for ten years ago and I'm surprised it didn't do too well at the box office. The dinosaur characters were probably so apparant due to the Jurassic Park craze of the 90's and a lot of the dino creatures in Mario Bros look like they could have been in a Jurassic sequel. But nevertheless, the film was funny, easy to watch and enjoyable for a Wednesday night. The early scene when the bros and Daisy and Daniella (hotties!) are in the Brooklyn Italian restaurant chowing down on spaghetti, meatballs and garlic bread would make any goomba hungry. Great scenes include the waterslide-like pipe ride (which looks like a ball!) and the disco dance scene. Koopa's castle is an eerie Twin Towers recreation that is more appreciated now than when the film came out. It's the World Trade buildings with half of one tower demolished. I hope the DVD version offers a lot of extras.

Summary: The first week of SMBSS!
Review: MARIO MANIA features 4 episodes from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show which include :
THE BIRD, THE BIRD
KING MARIO OF CRAMALOT
BUTCH MARIO & THE LUIGI KID
and
MARIO'S MAGIC CARPET
I was dissapointed to find out that there werent 5 mario episodes as is indicated on the box cover. It says : "join the mario bros in thier first 5 adventures". But there were only 4 adventures and one episode of LEGEND OF ZELDA. Just beware of that! - your gettin less than you think!

Summary: Ah, Mario Memories
Review: Remember about ten or tweleve years ago, there was the Mario Brothers trying to rescue Princess Toadstool from the evil King Koopa? Well, now we can relive those Mario memories in the first five episodes of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! As most of us may know, this collection contains the live-action sequences starring Captain Lou Albano, as Mario, and Danny Wells as Luigi. I have always been a big fan of the Mario Bros. and will continue to be one for as long as the franchise will go on. They're funny, charming, and just plain fun. If you wanna relive your Mario memories, then I say get this DVD set of the first five advenuters of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (Well, OK the first four adventure, the last episode contains The Legend of Zelda.) Which of course, was apart of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show back in the day. This collection also contains an interview with Andy Heywood (creator Inspector Gadget) and gives some information about the Mario Bros. cartoon. If only there could be more Mario Bros. cartoons. Maybe in the future we could only pray they would come out with new adventures. They did it with Sonic and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Why not Super Mario?

Summary: Other DIC Cartoon
Review: Well, it's nice to see that DiC is releasing the Mario cartoons in their original order, but if I wasn't such a Mario fanatic, and didn't already have four-fifths of the episodes on this DVD (I've been missing the first episode), I would've skipped this disc. Why? Well, for one thing, in the "interview", Andy Heyward fails to give correct credit to Shigeru Miyamoto for creating Mario. But what really cheeses me off is people thinking that these are the uncut versions of the episodes. For one thing, the live-action segments are missing the "Legend of Zelda" previews that played right after Mario's cartoon face popped up during the sketch. But even worse is that these are the edited versions of the cartoons that edit out the song remakes and replace them with instrumentals to songs from season 2 FOR NO GOOD REASON!!!! I don't know why they edited those songs out, considering they never did the same to seasons 2 or 3! If you taped all the shows during their original run in 1989, consider this a waste of money and don't buy this DVD. Otherwise, you can add four Mario adventures and a Zelda to your collection.
As for the episodes themselves:

"The Bird! The Bird!": Very good introduction.
"King Mario of Cramalot": First parody on the show; badly-done, but I like some of Bowser's dialogue.
"Butch Mario and the Luigi Kid": Better parody, and the first appearance of Mouser. I like the usage of SMB2 elements.
"Mario's Magic Carpet": Very poor. Full of plot holes and mistakes.
"The Ringer": Worth it to see Ganon phantom-punching.

There you have it. But don't listen to the reviewers who think these episodes are unedited - if you taped the shows back in 1989, or collected all the Kid Klassics VHSs, and you have a DVD recorder, do not buy this DVD!

Summary: The guy below is wrong
Review: When the Super Mario Bros Super Show first aired back in '89 mondays thru thursdays was super mario and then friday would be legend of zelda. If they didn't have legend of zelda on here it wouldn't be the complete first 5 episodes. Zelda is considered part of the Super Mario Bros supershow because it wasn't it's own show. Each episode on this dvd doesn't just contain the cartoon like previous Mario dvds, but also includes the live action segments with Captain Lou Albano! These are the full uncut episodes of Super Mario Bros, and the only way to get these episodes without buying this dvd would to have been taping them off network tv back in the day (or reruns). Don't miss your chance to get this dvd if you're a Mario fan! I have never seen this dvd at wal-mart or target or any other huge store like that. The only problem with this dvd is the lack of extras, but when you consider you're getting the live action segments before and after the cartoon lack of extras can be overlooked.
