Summary: A beautiful adaptation!
Review: For those who say that this film is not for children, please remember that some children appreciate a realistic view of life and prefer not to be patronized into watching "lollipop land" Disney films. This tale depicts life, real life, and I think that is something good for children to see before they are suddenly thrust into the world. I read the story and then watched the movie when I was eight, and I love them still. If you liked the film or the book, but have not seen/read one or the other, DO SO! The film is a wonderful tale on its own even if it cannot capture the whole story (the book is almost 500 pages, so how could it?). For those who enjoyed either or both, there is a nice e-Group devoted to Watership Down. You should check it out! I would only not recommend this film if you or your child cannot handle depictions of life as it really is, which means that you can not watch the nightly news or read the paper... Adams went to great lengths to accurately portray rabbits in their natural environment, and for that he should be applauded, not condemned.

Review: I have been watching Watership Down since I was 5! I have loved it for as long as I can remember. It is a MUST SEE!!! The rabbits are so, life like, and the story is incredible! Sure it's a little violent, but so is life. It's a fun, educational movie for the whole family!

Review: One of the best animated films ever made. I first saw it when I was around 10, and loved it despite the fact that it wasn't as long as I had hoped it would be or as detailed as the novel. This isn't a cutesy, Disney-esque film about funny rabbit adventures. In fact, I would say its probably too harsh and perhaps frightening for children under 7, but it is a FANTASTIC story with excellent visual appeal and messages that resonate. You can't help but be touched by it in some way as it's "fantasy" side deals with real issues of freedom vs totalitarian control, religion, and acts of bravery and heroism, and it's "realism" side illustrates the harsh realities and violence of the animal kingdom. They may be talking rabbits, but you never lose sight of the fact that they ARE rabbits.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN
Review: I first watched Watership Down when I was six and ran out of the room crying20 minutes into the movie. I never gave the movie a second thought till I was thirteen when I asked my mother what was that cartoon with the bloody rabbits. My mother did not remember any such cartoon. Then one day she gave me the book, and I read it and I loved it. On the book it said it was an animated movie, and I took a trip to Blockbusters and rented it. It is the best movie I have ever seen, and the best book I've read. I am now seventeen years old now and have seen hundreds of movies since I was thirteen, but not one comes close to Watership Down.

Review: This movie was as good as the book and was very entertaining. It can be seen over and over again and the viewer will never become bored with it. I would not recommend this movie for children, due to the language and the violence, but it was still a very enjoyable experience. Not to mention that the animation was very realistic, even for a cartoon.

Review: Thanks to the BBFC a lot of youngsters are going to have nightmares due to the UK re-release of this film being re-graded as a 'U'(suitable for all) instead of a 'PG' (parental guidance) and re-packaged to look like a fluffy, harmless cartoon about bunnies. So much for responsibility.This is not a cute kiddies' cartoon but is in fact an excellently gripping story involving a group of rabbits who are forced to leave their warren, due to the threat of human developers, and find a new home. There are plenty of encounters with grittily-realistic things such as snares, men with shotguns, foxes and the like and also parodies of human society such as a warren complex run in military fashion by a dictator-like figure. The best animated film. If you don't find the ending or the 'Bright Eyes' scene tear-jerking then check your pulse - you may be dead.

Summary: Surprisingly adult cartoon
Review: I've been to Watership Down. No, seriously, it's real. There is a hill with a steep slope covered in old rabbit warrens. There aren't many rabbits there now. Rabbits have been systematically destroyed in England for hundreds of years. The more common methods have gone into germ warfare, with Mixymitosis being one of the great killers (an incredibly disgusting, slow, painful disease). This film portrays a fairly accurate depiction of the rabbits life, strung through with the notion that rabbits are capable of reason as we are. It invokes strong feelings in anyone who watches it, and it doesn't pull punches to protect people from reality (even for a cartoon!). The animation suffers on occasion, but this is more than made up for by the very feel of the entire picture - I dare most people not to feel the tears building at the end of the film! This is truly an excellent film, but parents should watch it first before showing their children to ensure that they think it is suitable.

Review: This tale of wandering rabbits is serious and somehow misterious. It is an engaging story of a rabbit named Fiver, who senses a danger appraching the warren. Richard Adams' is a brilliant writer and has developed a great story of adventure, and survival.

Review: I LOVE this movie! I also LOVED the book. They could have made the movie a bit more like the book but its a great movie anyway, but the part at the end with the dog might scare some little kids 'cause little kids don't wanna see bunnies get torn to pieces.

Summary: Thoroughly fascinating
Review: The video, which closely follows the book is a wonderful blend of fantasy and reality. Although the rabbits take on human characteristics, you never once forget that they are rabbits, and that if you look closely enough, rabbits have a hierarchy much like people. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, felt connected to the adventurers and got the distinct impression that when the band of bunnies was in trouble, the trouble was real and frightening. Although violent at times, it is not overly so, because anyone who has owned rabbits knows that they fight and it can be fierce and frightening. I would highly recommend this video for adults and older children!
