Summary: "Bright eyes, burning like fire.." (snif, snif, boohoo)
Review: This is the first film I ever saw which I not only loved but became totally obsessed with. I think I was 7 or 8. I would bore my friends to death singing its praises. I spent my early childhood in the country, loving animals & nature while gentle hippie music wafted through the background (cat stevens, simon & garf, etc) I also had at an early age a preocupation with stories that were tragic & melodramatic. So you can imagine the flood of appreciative tears gushed from my eyes when THAT SCENE played - you know the one, ghost bunnies sailing through the air, Fiver w. big sad eyes looking over the hillside for his dead buddy, psychedelic spinning bunny that turns into a cornicopia (?) - all the while Arty Garfunkle floats his delicate croon overtop-I was bawling! That scene still chokes me up, I am not ashamed

Summary: A Movie For All Time...
Review: How times change. I saw this movie when I was in the hospital at the young age of 10. Although this is a cartoon, I don't know if 10 year olds today would be used to something like this. It is a great movie which depicts some violence, but that violence is oh so necessary to make its point. This is definitely a classic movie, and one that tells a must see tale with a powerful moral message. Read the book after you see the movie, it's even better.

Summary: But it ISN'T for children!
Review: There is nothing "bad" about this movie. The fact that it has rabbits acting not so cute and cuddly does not make it bad, or give a bad message to children. It portrays the struggle to survive against those who wish to dominate and control. It shows the challenges a good leader must face in trying to achieve a better life for his (or in the case of Hyzenthlay, her) people. It sets a shining example for leadership in the main character, Hazel; as well as who NOT to aspire to be like (Woundwort).

This movie is unfortunately seen as a kiddie movie just because of the fact that it is animated. I see it time and again in the kid's section of the video store, and that is not where it belongs. It is a serious drama, one with violence and adult themes and situations very young children would not understand. It is an adult movie, or at least if viewed by a child should be done so under adult guidance. Parents wanting yet another 90 minute babysitter would do better purchasing the latest Disney tripe. But if you want a movie you can enjoy with your child, one that will leave them pondering tough issues regarding society, politics, life and death, a movie that will not dumb them down but make them think, and even want to read the novel, then this is the one.

Summary: Classic movie is overlooked for too long
Review: Based on the Richard Adams novel, this unusual animated film features the ordeals of a group of rabbits who leave their warren due to a prophetcy of destruction. Their adventures involve adversaries like man and a Nazi-like rabbit warren. What could I say that most others haven't? The animation, designed in a realistic stylt unique to most animations, is beautifully made and expertly handled. The story is highly brillant than most cartoons would. which sits well with mature viewers. Many of the characters are intellegent to whatever is thrown out to them, I have to admire that. The level of violence may be inappropriate for young childern. Furthermore there aren't any cookie-cutter Disneyesqe musicals nor cute zany sidekicks, which is a chance of pace for American animation. They should make more movies like this.

Summary: What a Cartoon.
Review: A gory movie but well worth seeing. I loved the General he was a great Rabbit. I would not recommend this movie to young kids it might scare them, seeing cute bunnies being torn to pieces. But this movie isn't all blood it has a great story line to it. Watch it and you'll see.

Summary: Watership Down is by far the greatest animated movie.
Review: When I finished Watership Down, my eyes watered up and I thought to myself, "now that's power," this is by far the best animated movie of all time, It has fighting, drama, love, and even fast cars! It makes me think twice now about the rabbit's way of life. It makes you want to hate the human being for their cruelties, and the charecters make you wonder if rabbits are really that smart. Well, I don't want to spoil it for you all so go ahead and witness a classic that will be well lived by many for many years.

Summary: A masterpiece?..............I think so.
Review: This film is intended for older audiences, I myself saw this film in the theatre back in the day. Albeit it doesn't completely follow the novel, it doesn't need to for it can be recognized alone as a masterpiece in animated film. It was created at a time where technology still had some limits, yet no shortcuts are visible. I must express too, that the film's music is nothing short of exceptional and deserves honorable mention. I encourage all viewers, parental guidence recommended, to view this work. It has stood unrecognized long enough. Enjoy.

Summary: An Enchanting and Beautiful Story
Review: The powerful story of a group of determined rabbits searching for a safer warren is compiled into a stunning watercolor and raises questions about life. I am only 12, but the startling reality of the rabbits troubles- from leaving their warren based on information from a young, unimportant rabbit, to finding out the truth about another warren that has made a sickening pact with man, this movie has it all. The book has so much more details- but it is quite a long book- I really believe that this movie was well done, and is a wonderful video to see.
