Review: Amazing sets and costumes... how did director George Miller pull off some of those animal scenes?! Hilarious and very touching--the scene with the crippled terrier, the truck and the butterflies is one of the most moving scenes ever committed to celluloid. A beautiful film.Just one caveat regarding the disc: it really cries out for a director's commentary.

Review: The critics couldn't be more wrong about thismovie. It's an absolute delight. I have athree year old and he said, I love this movie.The special effects are fantastic. Babe is athis best. Very little Hoggett, it's mostly thewife and her mishaps. The ballroom scene isunforgettable. Why anyone thinks this movie isdark and scarey hasn't watched Babe 500 times likewe have--it's a natural progression. The endingis so wonderful you're sure to cry with happiness.This was Gene Siskel's #1 of l998. His last top choice. I agree.

Review: I loved both Babe movies -- and I haven't been a child for many years! I thought the scenery was creative and clever (even though it looked more to me like Italy than New York!) And of course the animals are witty and engaging.

Summary: "Pig in the City"-Not for those who loved "Babe"!
Review: Hi, Here are the facts, quick and dirty. I'm a parent who has watched "Babe" dozens of times with my three-year-old. Every time we find something new and interesting in the video and always smile and feel rewarded that we have watched it again. It's a very special movie. On the other hand, if you are expecting the same experience from "Pig in the City", forget it! It is full of "gothic wierdness", sudden, unhappy (or frightening) events that shock instead of humor, and an underlying theme that is way out of line with what the original "Babe" was. This video leaves you feeling startled and even somewhat anxious. I do not recommend it for toddlers. Who gave this thing 4.5 stars anyway?????

Summary: Too much symbolism of death and torture for small kids.
Review: Too much murky undertones of wickedness when the pig and owner, who is obviuosly painted-out as an obese target of fat jokes, go to New Orleans(?). There Babe discovers good and evil through others torturous obsessions. The two parts that really bothered my 5-year-old is when the pit bull is hanging itself unintentionally under water and the camera is showing the dog dying underwater. Nice. And then there's the part where the crippled dog gets pulled by the car before crashing itself and its wheelchair and showing the dog lying there. This movie was trash, as far as kids go. If they were gearing this for a more mature audience, then the script was horrible. I almost got up with my family and left the theatre.

Summary: Babe should become a franchise--like the Bond movies.
Review: I like this movie as much as the first--although because of different reasons. Not as much of Ferdinand the duck as in the first one. I'm sorry I thought the scenes with Ferdinand were the best of the first. This time there's a whole new cast of animals. I especially liked the Jack Russel terrier. I can't say I thought this was the best movie of last year. the last few scenes in the ballroom were a letdown, I thought they were too long and drawn out--but everthing leading up to the end are knee-slapping hilarious.

Review: This is more imaginative, better executed and more interesting than the first movie. Yes the tone is darker, but no more so than your standard fairytale (remember, Hansel and Gretal is not about a cute candy house -- they're going to be gassed and eaten!). For school age children as well as adults. You need to understand this movie to appreciate it -- and that's a compliment.

Review: Gene Siskel is not alone in proclaiming this picture as best of the year. As a sequel, this movie travels in a completely different (albeit, darker) direction than the original without losing a bit of the wit and charm of its predecessor. Don't let the "G" rating fool you. It is every bit for adults as it is for children. This movie is very smart, exciting, and surprisingly mature. Anyone who enjoyed the first "Babe" is sure to be pleased by this amazing sequel.
