Summary: Not for little children, too many dark, scary things.
Review: I bought this and brought it home thinking it might be a good movie to have on hand for my grandaughter. In the first moments of this video I decided whoever thought this was a movie for kids was either crazy, or had a very misplaced sense of what children would like.

The first few scenes after Pig and his owner are back home are horrible. Pig's owner is going down the well to repair it, he and the pig both fall in, the pump falls on the man, you don't know if he is dead at first, then find out he is terribly injured. It was a frightening scene. Then come the sinister looking men in dark clothes coming over the hill. They are from the bank and have come to take away their farm/home.

Follow that with the wife's trip with the pig to the city where the wife gets detained at the airport and questioned and threatened. The pig sits alone and hungry and wondering where his owner is. Then it goes on with an overwhelming sense of bad things that can happen. They get stranded in a strange place, her suitcase gets stolen, the pig gets lost, and taken by a bunch of performing animals. There is a fire in an orphanage. A man dies. Cme ON, all this in the first few minutes and this is supposed to be for kids? I was disappointed, and even a bit angry and the audacity of this movie, and its makers. It is a dark and ugly little video being passed as a sequel to the fun of Babe. I think it is awful. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody with young kids. Not fun. Too scary.

Summary: This movie is too violent for children....of any age!
Review: I have seen thousands of movies. Some very violent, but I knew that when going in to see it. I was for warned. I saw this movie with my husband. We are adults, and love any movies with animals in them, as we love the critters a lot. I was watching the movie and thinking it a bit sad, but that was fine, as such greats such as Bambi and Dumbo had their share of saddness to them. But.... when the men and women with black polished boots on which reminded us of the gastapo came to take the animals away, I was appalled at the violent manner in which this was done. I would never allow children to view this. One scene in particular involved a dog that didn't have use of it's back legs and had them in a basket with wheels to allow it to get around. It was biting a cloth from the pound truck as it was moving. If it let go of the cloth it would be crushed under the wheels of the truck or be flung free, which is what happened. When it landed, the wheels were crushed, and the dog was obviously hurt, laying on it's side, it's front legs shaking or convulsing. I tore the movie out of my VCR at this point. Why make a child traumatized by scenes like this???? I think this movie was made without a thought to children or people in general.

Summary: A big disappointment
Review: After wacthing and enjoying "babe" with my kids more times then I could count I was looking foward to the sequel. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. This sequeal is dark and almost ugly with sexual inuendos and adult themes. Hardly the moving family movie that "Babe" was.

Summary: Not even close to the original
Review: After watching this movie, I was very disappointed with the producers. Dark, maybe. That wasn't my concern, there was a dog almost hung, another dog almost crushed by a car, among the few mistreated animals. The lessons learned were much to small compared to the outlandish details they supplied. Why do we need children to see black leather and studded gang members, giant lacey bloomers or large sized bras to "show them a touch of reality". The first movie was a cute story made for kids. I think this one was a big mistake.

Summary: This beautiful film is a keeper - add it to your collection.
Review: This is a fantastic film. My seven & nine year olds had no problem with it's "dark" moments. In fact we've seen it at least six times, and we gain new appreciation for it at every viewing. This is too good to miss, especially on DVD.

Summary: Anyone who didn't love this movie isn't worth a penny.
Review: Dark and beautiful. I think some people complain that it is not safe for children, but some of the most brilliant children's stories have contained even darker content (Snow White and Cinderella). The fact that this movie contains good, valid messages aimed at children seems to escape some adults. It is not as violent as some recent Disney movies. Yet, people seem to gravitate towards the idea that because the landscape in the movie is dark, the violence is somehow worse for children. If anything, I think it gives children a more realistic view of greed, anger and the misunderstandings that create racism and hate. If the child is scared, turn it off. However, I think kids are smarter than we give them credit for.

Summary: Did I miss something?
Review: Film of the year, is this "Babe pig in the city" we are talking about?

The first film was magical, endearing and quite clearly aimed at children.

The sequel, should surely aim for similar goals?

After 40 minutes of unrelenting bleakness and darkness enough was enough, it had to be turned off. (I know it was probably about to get lighter and be brilliant, but I think not)

Where was the slightly other worldly feel of the first film?

It had been stamped on by the nightmarish vision of some studio exec on his/her way back on the "red eye" from LA.

I know some people have said it is not a childrens film, who was it designed for??

Two 15 year boys at the pictures, "two for Babe pig in the city please, to enable us to appreciate it's subtle nuances and metaphors of real life".

I don't think so.

Avoid this film and for goodness sake don't let your young kids watch it, unless you want to spend all night comforting them.

Summary: falls short of "Babe"
Review: Within the last month, I have purchased both "Babe" and Babe, Pig in the City" for my 3 year old to watch. Although I find both films entertaining, there is no question in my mind that "Babe" is a superior film to its successor. The common objection to "Babe, Pig in the City", is that it is too dark a film for children. Perhaps. Yet, the original "Babe" is also dark as well, but the location remains on the farm with things I think children can more readily relate to, versus the strange, surreal world of the "city," which, in my opinion, dertracts from the overall wholesome message of the film. Bikers, scantilly clad rollerblade-chics, Terminator style motorcycle cops, fake, Disney World like sets, strip searching DEA agents, etc., etc .,, make the sequel less of a children's classic and more of a cult-ish flic with Rocky Horror Picture Show overtones. The sequel degrades into silliness also, with the character of Mrs. Hoggett becoming less and less effective. Also, the total package of "Babe" is wrapped perfectly, with the endearing climax coming just at the end of the film, whereas "Pig in the City" climaxes at the "pit bull" scene, and then goes downhill from there. In my opinion, "Babe, Pig in the City," is yet another classic example of a sequel falling short of the greatness of the original.
