Summary: Jungle Book got Snowed On.
Review: When I watched Ice Age, I was deeply disappointed to find out it was no different from and no better than Jungle Book. The upside to that is it's no worse than Jungle Book; and Jungle Book's a good movie; so if you haven't seen Jungle Book, you might as well watch this version: it's got cool looking snow!

Summary: Didn't we just see this?
Review: The recipe for Ice Age:

Take some left over Shrek
Mix in some Monster's Inc
add a dash of Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron
Microwave it all and voila- Ice Age

Let's see, big beast who wants to be left alone is saddled with a small wisecracking beast on a journey- the Shrek recipe for success.

Small dark haired baby who makes cute needs to be returned to the human 'world'. Think a younger Boo with less personality.

And then for the animal rights activist/vegetarian in you, we get some mild lecturing on how humans are bad because they kill animals and such and such- didn't Stallion already give us a long-winded lecture on that topic?

As a mother, I will admit I did get teary eyed at the scene where the baby was returned safe and sound- one star for that. Though my mother instincts made me wonder how such a scantily clad baby could survive in the icy cold for what appears to be days with nothing but one diaper change and one meal of watermelon. But hey, that's me. It kept my 6 year old and 2 year old entertained for an hour- hence, the second star. Other than that, I think there was potential for something really entertaining and original, but it just turned out to be stale, warmed over leftovers that tasted much better the first time around.

Summary: Good, but Deja Vu!?
Review: This is a good movie as far as animation goes - but the actual story line isn't very original, and I saw influences from other animated films like Skrek. It has the adult humor needed for enjoyment by parents, but simply not as original as I thought it would be.

Summary: Cute, Funny Animation
Review: Several previous grumpy reviewers to the contrary notwithstanding, I loved this movie. I am not a big fan of the current animated productions but this one was special--it was funny, the characters were cute and lovable and FUNNY, even the sneaky Diego (voice by Denis Leary). I never understood what all the whoop-la was about with Shrek, Toy Story, Antz, etc. but this one was endearing. All the voices were well done and appropriate--Ray Romano (Manny the mammoth) and John Leguizamo(Syd the sloth) were wry and comic and the animals looked like animals, not stick figures or wooden dolls. The acorn-obsessed squirrel who moved in and out of the story was also very funny and the whole movie left you feeling good, as it should.

Summary: ice age
Review: personally, I didnt care for it much. the plot and characters were a little "undefined", disney or barbie movies seem to be more of my taste.

Summary: Tsis is shooo much fun!
Review: Love the characters, love the voices, love the animation. Small children might not get all the jokes. Can't wait for the sequel to come out!

Summary: "Chilling" with "Ice Age"
Review: This is a great dvd to own if you like computer animation or if you have kids. My "kids" are all grown up, so I happen to like the animation.

The story is of an unlikely group brought together by the impending ice age and the charge they were given to deliver a human baby back to the human tribe. This is a little strange, considering one of the guards of the baby is a sabre toothed tiger, Diego, (Denis Leary)but it works very well. the other two guards are Manny the wooly mammoth (Ray Romano) and Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo). The characters work well together and make this a great film. I especially like Scrat (the squirrel).

The computer animation is not the same as say "Shrek" or either of the "Toy Story" movies - it's more angular looking. But it works very well for the purpose of telling this story. After all, ice is not particularly rounded or friendly looking, is it?

So buy the dvd (before we have our own "ice age" - 3 feet of snow indeed!), fix yourself something warm to drink - make some hot chocolate - and prepare to enjoy the adventures of this strangely tossed together band of heroes.

Summary: Adequate but Boring
Review: I was disappointed with Ice Age. The animation is technically proficient and at times quite dazzling. The sound is good, the characters are appropriately charming and menacing as needed, the story is predictable and acceptable to the vast majority.

In short, it's boring. There are flashes of brilliance in the character of Sid the Sloth but everyone else acts as they are rendered, as if by computer.

Oh I'm sure that 4 year old kids will squeal in delight. SO, it's a good family movie to get if you want to keep your kids quiet. By the same reasoning, you could feed them gin (or the modern equivalent). That's how people kept babies from crying in the 1800s.

But I thought we knew better now.

Remember Bugs Bunny? That cartoon was written for *real adults*. It was uproarious and anarchistic, witty and insulting, clearly made for adults, which makes it perfect for really entertaining the kid in all of us.

Ice Age is about as uproarious as a wet match.

Your kids are going to love it, you'll be happy, Fox will get lots of money. But they could have done much better.

By the way, the cartoon character Scrat that we see in snatches throughout the movie is much more interesting. Too bad Fox didn't have the courage to feature him. But he's too adult for their tastes, he actually fights nature.

Summary: Good
Review: I normally don't buy movie DSVD's, only shows DVD's. So, I rent this one.

I found it very good and enjoyable. but it's just a carbon copy of SHREK. Anyway, it has some strange quality that makes you be a cumplice and go along with the trip. I liked it.

Summary: A movie that no one can beat.
Review: Everything about the movie was so touching and funny. I couldn't help myself trying not to laugh. The stars who provide the voices were great. If anyone says that it was dumb, well they'll be getting a big black eye from me!! Everything in it was real, I was amazed by it. I bet it could win an Academy Award (An Oscar) for anything it is nominated. There is no doubt in my mind about this movie, it was the #1 hit movie of 2002 spring. Anyone who sees this movie will love it. I love it too. This is a movie that no one can beat.
