Rating: Summary: Disney Movies....and the comparison Review: When one goes to a Disney movie now, basically you want to know how it compares to other Disney movies you have seen in the past....how is the animation, is the story any different, will I enjoy it or just get the Mickey Mouse kind of deja vu. Disney seems to rely on the ultimate tragedy of losing a parent or love one to bring about a quick need for the viewer to care about the character(s). That aside I enjoyed a the storyline relying on Native beliefs and a general positive message about the world and animals that they coexist. The animation was nothing beyond the ordinary and the music leaves nothing to hum about on the way home but is definitely worth your while to see in the movie theater.
Rating: Summary: Leave Miracle where it is, coz this is much better Review: This is clearly one of the best Disney films. I loved how the story was going. I'm sure this movie was totally copying off "The Lion King" but who cares? This was way better than "The Lion King" (I thought "The Lion King" was all right). Disney animation is sometimes a bit better than non Disney animation. (Ex: Movies like "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" is a non-Disney movie that had great music, a sweet movie. Kids might like this. However "Miracle" was horrible). However, I can recommend "Brother Bear" to any Lion King fan. This movie can cheer you on.I'm sure that "Brother Bear" will be having a sequel soon, and "Brother Bear" was way better than "The Lion King" both 1 and 2, didn't see "The Lion King 1 1/2", though.
Rating: Summary: 3 1/2 stars for latest Disney animated feature Review: Brother Bear isn't in quite the same league as Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast or even The Lion King but it's a solid, entertaining comic fable for kids. Adults will appreciate Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis reprising their Canadian cable access characters from SCTV. The twist is that both of them are reimagined as Moose. They provide much of the levity and some of the best comedic zingers of the film. The plot focuses on Kenai (Joaquin Phoenix)who is hunting down a bear he feels is responsible for his older brothers death. When he has his show down with the bear and kills it, his brother's spirit turns Kenai into a bear. The purpose in this seems to be to teach his brother a lesson in tolerance and to provide guidance for a young bear cub. Ironically enough Kenai is in turn hunted by his other brother who feels guilty for letting Kenai go off alone to find the bear in the first place. The score co-written by Phil Collins with a handful of catchy songs, is memorable although it lacks the depth of, say, Randy Newman. Still, they are hummable and kids will enjoy them which is their purpose in the film (that and to sell the soundtrack tie-in). The performances by actors Joaquin Phoenix, Jeremy Suarez (as Koda the bear cub that Kenai befriends), Robert Walker VII and Aaron Blaise are all strong. They manage to breathe life into characters that are less memorable than some that Disney has come up with in the past. Part of the blandness of the characters might be due to the fact that there are around six writers credited with working on the script. Brother Bear manages to display the warmth and Looney Tunes sense of humor that has replaced the milder Disney humor of early animated features. As a result, the film has a more contemporary and often funny edge that makes the film appealing to small children, preteens and adults. The animation itself is less complex and well detailed when compared to many previous efforts. Part of this could be due to the smaller box office returns for hand drawn animation since the advent of the computer generated films like Toy Story, Shrek, Finding Nemo and Ice Age. It's still a step above just about all of their former and current competition and is, for the most part, fluid and well animated. While Brother Bear might lack the memorable songs of Aladdin or the grand canvas of The Lion King, it has an entertaining story to tell and it is, for the most part, very well told. The box office for Brother Bear appears to show that there is still an interest in hand drawn animation as long as it has the right elements. Part of the problem with much of the recent Disney fare is the fact that it has seemed almost formulaic. It is here too but to a lesser degree. Surprisingly more edgy fare like The Emperor's New Groove and the well designed Treasure Planet didn't do all that well at the box office. You'll enjoy Brother Bear particularly if your expectations aren't of a Lion King type of film.

Rating: Summary: Very very nice movie and soundtrack Review: What a nice enjoyable movie. My 4 and 9 year old enjoyed it as much as I did-- we laughed, cried and felt good at the same time. The soundtrack is beautiful--from Tina Turner to Phil Collins to the amazing Romanian Womens Choir. Very touching music. The scenery and wildlife sure reminded us of our beautiful State of Alaska we live in. The story is cute and reflects the spirit of our native people. Thanks, Disney, for making another wonderful movie that makes you feel good.
Rating: Summary: Good story, bad soundtrack Review: I very much enjoyed the underlying message of empathy in Brother Bear. The story was sweet and different. The animation was beautiful, not ground-breaking, but well done. A scene early on in the film where the three brothers go fishing and kayak down impossibly high falls was particularly exciting and well done. I gave this movie 4 stars out of 5 because I found the soundtrack (even the opening song by Tina Turner) a real drag. The songs were too long and not even annoyingly catchy like the Aladdin and Pocahontas soundtracks. I also found the extremely chirpy voice of the young bear cub "Koda" grating. The voice of Kenai was wonderful as were the voices of the moose brothers. They produced the most belly laughs from the audience: children and adults alike. A little side bit involving rams was also pretty funny. The kids I saw the movie with (7 and 11) liked it but didn't seem to love it like they loved Finding Nemo.
Rating: Summary: Brother Bear is the BEST! Review: While the animation is wonderful and the colors and beautifully vivid, it is the story that makes this a classic. I laughed, cried, and fell in love with the bear cub Koda. See it; it'll make your day.
Rating: Summary: Good but not for the little ones Review: This new Disney movie was very well done. But it has a deep sprital meaning that I don't believe the little ones can grasp. Parts were very funny & the music (Phil Collins, Disney's Tarzan) was really good. Fit the movie to a tea. I wouldn't take someone younger than maybe 8. Just my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Brother Bear is a blast! Review: I just saw this movie, and I haven't gotten over how great it is! This deserves to be the next Lion King!!!
