Summary: Great DVD the interface isn't the best
Review: There is no need is describing what a wonderful movie this is. The DVD quality is excellent, but the interface for the special features is difficult at best. They advertise never before scenes on TV, but it must take a wave of the Nimbus 2000 to find just those scenes on the DVD. It took my family 2 nights to try to find these before we gave up. Very frustrating. Excellent movie though :) My feelings are this, this is a children's related movie, but it takes magic to work your way around the DVD.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: I had no interest in Harry Potter when the books came out. My sister did, however, and I heard all these strange words: Hogwarts, Dumbledore, Voldemort, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Diagon Alley, Nimbus 2000, Qudditch??? Umm... yeah... sounds... interesting. So, I avoided the books. Yet, for some unkown reason, I went along with my family to see the theatrical release. In a single word, it was excellant. Great acting. Interesting storyline. Excellant movie. I watched it 5 times. After my first viewing, I had already started reading the books. And of course, I had a copy of the DVD pre-ordered.

Now, for some thoughts on the DVD. I am not going to get into the differences between the book and the movie. Many forget that the movie is based on the book. As such, I regard the two as seperate entities. The movie covered much of the important parts in the book. All of the cast was great. I am glad that Chris Columbus got the directing part over Speilburg. Columbus picked some very talented, British actors and actresses to fill the roles. My favorite actress in the movie was Maggie Smith. The storyline was very interesting and the sights were simply amazing. Columbus did a great job in bringing the world of Harry Potter to life.

My only dislike about the DVD is the poor accompaniment of additional features. There was little commetary and the deleted scenes were very difficult to find. I had to go to the message board ...to find that out (It was also disapointing to find 7 relatively short deleted scenes after all that work too). And finally, I wanted more information about the making of the movie, interviews with the cast, and sneak previews of Chamber of Secrets. Despite these dislikes, I still give five stars to the DVD for containing one of the best movies that I have ever seen.

Summary: Not Just for Kids
Review: Yes I waited in a long line to watch Harry Potter at the movies, and I also bought the DVD and I am 25. It is a great movie for everyone of any age. Going to the movies was a great experience because kids were dressed up and ready and excited. Now the DVD lives up to the fun. Hours of extras are included as you navigate through a number of puzzles. Once you complete the puzzles only then are the extras found. The movie itself has a great feel. Both picture and sound quality are excellent. I highly recommend Harry Potter.

Summary: There is more to Harry Potter than this!
Review: With the space limitation it would be impossible for me to tell everything that's wrong with the Harry Potter movie, but if you're a die-hard fan like me then I'm sure you already know. From bad special effects (the troll, the centaur), a disjointed screenplay (Why do H,H,and R first discover Fluffy in the apparent afternoon, but by the time they get back to the dormitory scurry off to bed?), choppy editing (That cut to the hut-on-the-rock scene is appalling and the music is overbearing throughout the film.), and bad directing (could *someone* have told Emma she didn't have to enunciate everything?!) the movie really could've of been much better.
Of course the truth is that it's Harry so I can't help but at least liking it. The sets may've been quite good, I'll admit, but the spirit of the books just wasn't there. The movie is worth it only if you're a fan, but if you're just discovering Harry do focus on the books and not this mediocre bit of celluloid.
On a related note, I've still not figured out how exactly to watch the extra footage, or even if it's on my DVD, though apparently it is, and I'm fed up with trying. I don't find it amusing that I have to work through a (very) poorly constructed "game" just to view extra footage.

All in all my advice is to go read the book (again and again)!

Summary: By the dark side! Get Rid Of This!
Review: How could I ever have admired J. K. Rowlings? I hate this film because of 2 things. Where did all the kids come from? How did they get in the position of actors and actrices? When my mother bought this film! I was ticked off. The second thing is the director. Chris Columbus should not have made this weakness of a film. I hate Harry Potter. The reason why is because I have read 2 of the books, and my blood boiled as if to see that Harry Potter is clouding people's judgement. I've gotten only 3 minutes into the film, and then I turned around and stormed out of the family room in disgust.

I have to agree with the other reviewer. The US markets are indeed taking it too far. What in the name of all the stars is going on here? This film should not have been made. Thanks alot Chris Columbus. You've really offended me.

Summary: Enjoy the movie, FORGET trying to find the extras!!!!
Review: The movie version of this much loved book series if very pleasing and full of good actors and fun characters. If you loved reading "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", you'll love this movie. I think Daniel Radcliffe is charming as the loveable Harry and Emma Watson is perfect as Hermione. That being said, I have to say that the second disc of this 2 dvd set is a nightmare. Whoever thought that fans would love being tortured with extremely vague directions and almost non existent clues to finding the deleted scenes, etc., should be fired. I hope Warner Brothers will think over their concept for the dvd for the second movie. My roommates and I have tried to find all the supposed options and haven't yet been able to decipher any clues. A friend rented the VHS version and it had two of the deleted scenes. We were hoping all the deleted scenes would be on the VHS but even it is a disappointment. One would think that Warner Brothers would have rewarded the fans of this phenomenonally popular series with a dvd that would be fun and easy---especially since kids are gonna be wanting this dvd. If adults can't figure out the annoyingly hidden clues, I doubt very serious if young Harry Potter fans will be able to either. Buy the dvd for the movie, which as I have said before, is fun and charming. But if you are looking for all the extras, be prepared to be extremely frustrated. I would love to have given the dvd 5 stars---as far as I'm concerned, the movie is 5 stars. However, given the jumbled mess of the second dvd, I'm only giving it 3 stars. Note to Warner Bros.---get your act together and give us a better dvd next time!

Summary: Magical World---But some things stopped me
Review: I have seen the movie at movie theater. I like it very much, wish there are more like the book I read.

However, true that 2nd disk does giving trouble for people who do not know what to look for. Most people around me did not read the book or know how to solve/play the game. The company should have leave all 7 never before-seen-before scenes in the movie than on 2nd disk. OR They can make dvd with no game and dvd with game so that we can pick what we want.

Last of all, I am very disappointed that all 7 scenes do not have English subtitle! No closed caption/English subtitle for me to know what they were saying. I am deaf. I have found almost all of my dvd movies does not put closed caption/English subtitle for special features. They should. Any movie maker company should do that. It is not fair for me to "suffer" with lot of guesswork for 7 sceness- trying to imagine what they were saying.

All DVD movies I have said "closed caption" They did not appear on my tv or anyone's tv! I tried with different system and different tv. No such luck. I wish they should be clear if closed caption is English subtitle then PLEASE mark it clear! I personally doubt regular closed caption works at all. Three of movies I have with no English subtitle- they were labeled with closed caption- NONE! Totally waste my time with any movie's special features-"blind sound(voices, etc)"(don't know what to call it) for me.

Summary: Magically Entertaining
Review: Hearing that the DVD of Harry Potter featured bonus scenes and additional insight into the making of the film, I chose to splurge on the DVD over the VHS version. Mind you, I did not own a DVD player when I ordered this film. The morning after my shipment arrived, I went to the store to purchase a DVD player and that night, we watched the movie. The quality of the DVD is wonderful and the sound is amazing (we hooked it up to our stereo speakers). The bonus features include a tour of Hogwarts as well as "skits" with the sorting hat and even web-interactive activities in which I have not yet particpated. All-in-all, this is a great way to watch the movie though the widescreen viewing makes my 20" television seem even smaller. I suppose that is the only downside, now I need a TV that can hold its own with Harry Potter's DVD quality.

Summary: disappointing compared to the books
Review: I was quite disappointed when I saw this movie. I saw it after The Fellowship of the Ring, which was about as close to the book as movies get, and so all of the plot changing annoyed me. And while I guess the computer animated effects couldn't be too realistic or they'd scare the smallest kiddies, I found the three-headed dog laughable.

There were some positive things. I love the books, and I did find the characters and their dialogue similar. I was entertained throughout, and found the magic amazing.

So the movie was entertaining and fun, though not of the highest quality.

Summary: harry potter
Review: Great movie, even though it left out a excessive amount of scenes and dialog.
