Rating: Summary: Lovely storyline and animation. Review: Simply put this is a wonderful piece of animation, great family entertainment and lovely animation. If you have children 3-12, this is would be a fine gift. Also, this feature has only been dubbed into English, both storyline and animation have escaped the usual editing that comes with many animated features coming from Japan in the past.
Rating: Summary: A gem for all ages Review: We all wanted to learn how to fly on a broomstick! Kiki is an incredible, lovely story which warms the heart. A must see for Animation fans and collectors alike. Having seen Kiki's in it's original Japanese I was suprised to be swept away by the story again in English. I found myself adding this to my collection. It is the only English Dubbed Japanese film I have purchased.
Rating: Summary: FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THIS MASTERPIECE Review: When this movie came out on video, I had heard that it was an animated classic from Japan. Since I had just recently gotten into anime, I decided to check it out. What I wound up seeing would turn out to be one of my favorite films of all time (and, believe me, that's no small order!)! The film is about a young witch-in-training (Kiki) who goes out into the world to learn her craft. Along the way, with the help of her trusty black cat (Jiji) and the many people she meets, Kiki learns that magic comes from the heart. The animation on this production is, in my opinion, simply the best there is, even compared to more modern, domestic releases. The English dub for this version (Kirsten Dunst, Phil Hartman, et al.) is incredible. And, most important, the story is absolutely PERFECT for anyone; the child, the child-at-heart, the full grownup, you name it! Since I first saw this film, I've been recommending "Kiki's Delivery Service" to just about everyone I know; even my parents (I think Mom is leaning towards my side!). This is my first introduction to the works of Studio Ghibli and of director Hayao Miyazaki; more of their creations are supposed to be released in the future, including a theatrical release of "Princess Mononoke" next year. If you get the idea that I'm all set for these to come out, YOU'RE RIGHT! In the meantime, "Kiki's Delivery Service" is way, WAY Up There on my play list!
Rating: Summary: I loved this movie! Review: This is a very good, family film. I recommeded this film to a lot of my friends, and I can't wait until the next Hayao Miyazaki film is dubbed. END
Rating: Summary: One of the best animated features ever made -- don't miss it Review: I took two small children along to see a rare big screen viewing of this film just before the video release -- a thinly disguised excuse for seeing it myself. What wonderful and masterful animation! and the charming, detailed and fully developed storyline puts most Disney-type cutesy shlock to shame. This is more like an exquisite, gloriously illustrated children's book that has magically come to life before your eyes...I can hardly think of another cinematic experience where I spent 90 minutes transported so completely into a state of enchantment. (By the way, the two children with me -- ages 3 and 5 -- were totally engrossed and silent during the whole film, as was the large auditorium we saw it in filled with kids and parents of all ages -- a real rarity, when many films bore small children and leave them running up and down the aisles.) The only shame is how few people will have the chance to see this masterpiece on the big screen where it really belongs. I bought the video the second it came out and loudly recommend it to everyone of every age that I know! END
Rating: Summary: An excellent video for children age 2 and up Review: Just as good as Miyazaki's other film "Totoro" that was dubbed into english. The animation is very colourful and the story is a treat for grownups too. END
Rating: Summary: Great movie Review: One of the best movies ever. Focused mainly on the story and not action. It has great animation and a wonderful story about a 13 year old witch who has to find her place in the world and figure out who she is. END
Rating: Summary: unforgettable is the best wat to describe this Review: Amazing, enchanting, impresssive, refreshing... This animated Miyazaki feature will take you to new realms of imagination and storytelling never before presented to the American public. You'll never see a review that critisizes this feature... and that's more than you could say about any of the Hollywood productions in the past decade. Truly, a must see for all those interested in animation and a treat to all moviegoers as a whole. END
Rating: Summary: My daughter's favorite movie. Review: This is a great movie that everyone, young and old, can appreciate and enjoy. It is my daughter's favorite. She would watch it every day if she could.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Review: I love this story of a young witch who flies away from home at age thirteen for a year of training by herself. It's so cute, not too worldly, just the way most sweet 13 yr olds would act. I love it! And it's one of the few anime movies, I will let my 20 month old watch as well. Very cute.
