Summary: Wonderful, if convoluted
Review: OK, so a million other people have written reviews for this, so why one more? Why not.I loved the film itself when it came out in 2001 and I was looking forward to getting it on DVD because of the extra features. Unfortunately, there is no commentary track, which is what I was hoping for, so that's one point off. The good news is that they've included six deleted scenes and one extended version of an existing scene. The bad news is that you need to perform a convoluted procedure to get to them. Here's how to do it. 1/ Put in the second disc (the "extras") 2/ Select "Diagon Alley" 3/ To enter the alley, you either choose 4 incorrect bricks (at which point the DVD gives in and lets you enter), or you choose, in the correct order, 5 bricks out of perhaps a dozen or so. 4/ You then select the *key* on the Gringott's sign. This takes you to a Gringott's screen. 5/ Then you select the coins. Are we getting close yet? Nope. 6/ You return to Diagon Alley, and select Olivander's. You have to pick 3 wands, because the first two you choose are always going to be explosive. Now that you've got your wand, you return to the main menu. 7/ At this point, in the main menu, you can pick the "classroom" (the image of the wand below the white owl). If you didn't go through the first 6 steps, it won't let you in. 8/ Now move the highlight to the cat ("Transfigurations") and push the down arrow. The two owls on the pedestal should highlight. Push enter. 9/ Now the two owls AND the H on the pedestal should be highlighted. Push enter again. 10/ Are we there yet? Nope. Now you have to "get past fluffly". Choose the flute. 11/ Now you have to select the correct key. It's the tiny one in the exact centre of the screen. If you're not sure which one it is, watch the middle of the screen carefully before the animation stops. One of the keys won't be flapping properly -- it's got a broken wing, you see. 12/ Almost there. Now you have to choose the correct potion. It's the round golden one. 13/ Finally, you're at the mirror of Erised. Move the highlight to the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's stone in the middle of the mirror and you'll be presented with a screen that lets you choose from three of the deleted scenes. Be sure to use the forward arrow on that screen to see an additional four scenes. Extremely annoying to get to, but worth it in the end.

Review: TWO [marginal] stars! Yet another misplaced Luke Skywalker clone-type saga - will it never end? AND just where is the originality? A totally unrealistic fantasy about 'boarding-school'! Some of the 'effects' throw us straight into Great George Pal territory! Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Maggie Smith, Richard Harris [Camelot's misplaced Merlin?] could have phoned their performances in! The best thing of all? ALAN RICKMAN! Says more with just a glance..... Only IF you must.....

Review: I found this movie to be exciting . It has to be my 2nd favorite movie by far . First is Titanic of course . This movie almost made 1 Billion in movie sales . Unbealevable? just try Titanic that was the best selling movie in Theaters right now that made 1.8 Billion Dollars . (Clears his throut)Now back to the subject . For all the Harry Potter fans...Just go ahead and buy the video , I'm possitive that u'll enjoy it . These are my ratings for the movie.... Graphics:9/10

Summary: A Really Neato Movie, Seriously
Review: Why are all of these reviews so darn -bad-? I'm very surprised, especially since so many people are buying this DVD! Having only seen Harry Potter 3 times, I am nevertheless convinced that it is a great movie. It obviously didn't completely measure up to the book, but neither did Lord of the Rings, and that was the -best- movie ever. So despite the movie's inferiority to the book, I enjoyed it immensely, and the DVD as well. The special features are really fun, especially having to get to the deleted scenes. People complained that it was too much hassle to find the deleted scenes, but seriously... if you had time to buy the Harry Potter DVD and watch the special features on it, you have time to play a game in order to watch the deleted scenes. I admit that the movie could have been a little more scary, and possibly more creative, but all in all, it's a great film for young and old alike. If you're a fan of the books, you really ought to see the movie!

Review: ... and J.K. Rowling's exceptional sense of humor all make this a keeper. I wonder why Chris Columbus & Co. deleted the Deleted Scenes, though: they were all on a par with the rest, some of them added plot points, and the seven of them together probably totaled less than five minutes.

Summary: Excellent movie adaptation: grueling DVD goodies
Review: In case there is cross posting of products this is a review of the Special widescreen edition DVD.
... However the basic primes is of a boy who grows up as the orphan nephew of a family that does not believe in magic only to find that he is a famous wizard. How will he handle his situation and the interaction with friends?
The movie its self as with all movies would have to be a mini-series to incorporate all the nuances of the book. However this movie does an excellent job of selection and gives the overall feel of the story.
Naturally comparing and contrasting this story with others in it genre you will always find a better or a favorite. This in no way diminishes the excellent story and the cohesiveness of the movie.
A great advantage of the DVD is that if you have not gone to the movie several times, you have time to stop comparing it to the book and can now enjoy it as the movie. Warning! The extra goodies are not geared toward a DVD player and are a waste of plastic if you do not have a computer ...If you pass the download game and ad game then you can now use the goodies which are rehashes of the movie and sound bite interviews.

Summary: Potter flies, but is short on magic...
Review: Maybe I'm just becoming more muggle. I'm an adult and have read and enjoyed all the Potter books. They are quite charming and entertaining. I found the film version faithful to the elements of its source novel. Director Chris Columbus (HOME ALONE) creates a visual world exactly as described in print. That is quite a feat, especially when its time to break out the broomsticks for a fast game of Quittich. But, while the film has the elements of its source, it is lacking in the heart of the source. There is little emotional attachment left. This is an adventure that plays closer to the British Hardy Boys then to The Wizard of Oz. The film remains pretty void of emotional attachment. None of the relationships are given enough time to establish. The story structure is rather episodic, as is the book, and so the pacing is different from most 'Hollywood' movies. To capture absolutely every element would have the film run into the 5-6 hour range. But, what they chose to include and what they chose to excise is questionable. The cast is superb, from the 3 child actors, Robbie Coltrane as the giant Hagrid on to Alan Rickman as the suspicious Professor Snape. And the musical score by uber-composer John Williams adds the final textures to the film. It seems apparent that the franchise will continue both in more books and a continued film series. So, Harry Potter might eventually be the most popular young boy ever. Younger Children might be challenged, not so much by the few moments of 'meanies', but by the 2 and a half hour running time. Director Columbus must be commended for doing the unthinkable, entertainingly and faithfully bringing the novel to the screen. But, cuts should have been made to make the better film, not to preserve every element of the novel. And, we could've used a bit of the soft stuff. The DVD itself is loaded and creates an event out of each viewing. A great audio and widescreen video transfer. But some of the menus and attractions are too ambitious. You actually have to work to get to some of the more interesting features. You can only hope its worth the wait when you get there.
