Rating: Summary: One of Disney's Best tries!!! Review: I only rated this 4 stars because it's songs were not as good as the first one's. Plus,it was only 1 hour and 5 minutes! But either than that, it was a great movie. I enjoyed seeing Ariel, Eric, Sebastian, King Triton and especially Flounder (who had his own family) again. The story was good too. Melody looked a lot like Ariel and Eric. My favorite part was when Ariel was turned into a mermaid and wore the same purple shell bra and had the same green fins. I highly reccomend this film!!!
Rating: Summary: I Love it! Review: I loved it! it has everything that made the first movie a hit a fun story, great songs, and lovable characters. it also introduces severel new characters like Tip, Dash, Melody, and many more.I recomend it to everyone who liked "The Little Mermaid".
Rating: Summary: Mermaid II Review: I felt that the movie was ok. It seemed to have the same plot as the first one. I was disappointed to the point where if you have seen the first one, that is all you need to see.The characters were cute and funny but that is about it. It was not as realistic as the first one. When I left the theaters after watching the The Little Mermaid, I had felt that I was in the sea and that I could feel what Ariel was going through. Little Mermaid II just didn't give me the same feeling. Too bad, I had hoped for something more.

Rating: Summary: Your New 10th Movie! Review: Disney's amazing undersea adventure resurfaces in an all-new story bursting with captivating music, unforgettable characters and brilliant animation that made the original film an overwhelming favorite. After rejoicing over the birth of their daughter Melody, Ariel and Eric must face a new threat from Ursula's revengeful sister Morgana - forcing them to hide Melody's true mermaid heritage. Melody, a young princess curious about her roots, ultimately ventures into the sea against her parents' wishes. There she meets new friends Tip And Dash, and in her dream to be a mermaid, becomes a pawn in Morgana's plot to gain control of the Seven Seas. It will take a reunion with Ariel and her childhood friends Sebastian and Flounder to rescue her daughter and restore harmony to the family.
Rating: Summary: Should have been a tv movie Review: This makes a cute movie for kids who liked the Little Mermaid cartoon series that aired a while ago. This sequel is pretty much like an extended tv episode with, sorry to be rude, weaker characters and sloppier animation. If you have nostalgia for Ariel, she still has that gorgeous voice but her charm, curiosity, and burning love for Eric aren't showing. I didn't really see the point of adding new characters but this IS a children's movie. Watch it, have fun, but don't expect your kids to want a sound track.
Rating: Summary: More positive and real message than the original Review: Like many other reviewers I generally avoid the "direct-to-video" and sequels, in general. But this movie had a number of things that others don't. First, as far as I can tell, most of the original cast is maintained. Second, the animation seemed to be of the same caliber as the original. Third, this is not a repeat of the prequel's plot formula. What I liked best about the movie is that Ariel in becoming a mom has forgotten about what being a budding teenager is all about, and loses touch with her daughter's feelings at a critical time. Isn't that what growing up and becoming a parent does to many of us? I loved the fact that this movie sparked my daughter asking me the "why" questions - like why Ariel didn't tell her daughter the whole truth about why she was forbidden from the sea. Ariel has become a different person from the adventurous mermaid-girl we saw in Little Mermaid - and quite naturally. I was happy to see my daughter getting this message. I don't think that this is a re-hashing of the same youth - defiance plot of the first movie. Here is it much more relational, about a mother and daughter. The Neptune-Ariel relationship never seemed to be very real to me - unlike the Ariel-Melody relationship in this one. Another important contrast between this movie and the original is the fact that Ariel left her home for a man, while Melody left home to find herself and her destiny... and only when her mother did not take the opportunity presented to 'connect' with her daughter. I think this message is a much more real and positive one. I bought the movie for my daughter, and she watched it twice in a row the first day, and several times thereafter, and together, too - which is really what is important to me. I think we both thought that this movie was perhaps, even better than the original.
Rating: Summary: An Insult to the original! Review: Despite the fact that this film started of well enough, it quickly goes downhill. First of all, most of the animation is pathetic compared to that of the original. Secondly, the new characters are trying too hard to be funny, but failing miserably. There is nothing new here, nothing at all. They had ten years to make thus film, you'd think they would take some time with it and come up with something brilliant like with the original. But nowadays, its all about money and not quality. I feel terrible for the people like myself who have waited months for this to come out, and being stuck with THIS...
Rating: Summary: Why? Review: Ok, I know I'm a teenager but I always loved the Little Mermaid, It's still my number favorite film after 13 years.....but what did Disney do??? My aunt, two little cousins 8 and 4, and my little brother 7, and I saw this movie we all agreed, this was exactly the same as the original, there were only different charecters. And what happened to Eric? In the first movie, he was adventourous and handsome, but in this movie he looks like he could be Ariel's teenage son! And he acts like one too! Did Disney want to keep him out of the movie so we couldn't notice the voice change? And if you listen very hard you could see that they used a lot of dialogue from the original. Yesterday I saw my 11 year old tape of The Little Mermaid, and when you compare the original to the sequel, it's like a 100 to 0.
Rating: Summary: A PITIFUL IMITATION OF THE ORIGINAL Review: I really don't know why Disney keeps going the direct-to-video-sequel route when these are usually sub-par films. This one is no exception, and quite possibly writes the rule. The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea fails everywhere the original film succeeded. Admittedly, this sequel had big shoes to fill, as many people believe that The Little Mermaid is the greatest modern classic that has come out of Walt Disney Studios. Where the classic had songs by the excellent duo of Menkin and Ashman, the songs in the sequel are flat and forced. The animation, too, is seriously lacking in the new film; in the original it was beautifully rendered, whereas in the sequel it is reminiscent of the slop Disney puts out for their daily shows. The story itself was familiar... extremely familiar. A little girl wonders what life on the other side of the sea is like and unwittingly enlists the aid of a sea witch to undermine the security of two kingdoms. About the only aspect that wasn't blatantly ripped off from the original was the new 'comic relief' duo, a not-so-bright Walrus and his little Penguin friend. I didn't catch their names, but for some reason Timon and Pumbaa comes to mind. But on the other hand, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the movie, so I guess if children's eye-candy was the goal, then Disney has hit the mark. But if you are looking for something that captures the magic of the original, then look elsewhere, for this film certainly does not.
