Summary: "The Wizard of Oz" for the 21st Century-get the Special Ed.!
Review: "Princess Bride" is a rare movie that tries to be more than it is on its surface(a straightforward adventure/fantasy) and succeeds. It is superbly cast (everyone from leads Elwes and Wright to Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn and Andre the Giant, to Chris Sarandon and Christopher Guest to Billy Crystal & Carole Kane and cameos from Peter Falk and Fred Savage). In fact, its hard to imagine another actor in any of these roles. Every speaking character on-screen is either funny or at least interesting. It is well written (with some very funny dialogue) an well directed (by Rob Reiner) who has his actors play their roles straight, which gives the film the perfect balance of over the top/understatedness.

The DVD is loaded with extras which make the Special Edition well worth the extra bucks. It includes 2 very good behind-the-scenes shorts and commentary from Rob Reiner and author William Goldman. Its a modern classic!

Summary: Great movie, but the DVD is a little light
Review: Thyis is one of my favorite films, and probably one of the most quoted films among me and my freinds.

The only thing that I am disappointed with is the lack of features on the DVD. Prehaps I have just been spoiled by other disks with hours of background information; however, this film is considered by many to be a classic. I think a commentary or production stills would have been a nice addition. As it is, the only extra included was the movie trailor. While this is a nice look back to the 1980's, I was expecting a little more from the disk.

Get the DVD if you do not have this movie already in your collection. Otherwise, it's not worth upgrading if you have it on VHS.

Summary: Best Surprise Movie Ever
Review: From beginning to end this movie did not disappoint. I first saw this on VHS in 1993 at the insistance of my girlfriend, now wife, and her sister. Entertainment at it's best. You won't find huge explosions and lame plot twists here, just a simple fantasy story that rocks and rolls from beginning to end. Akin to "A Christmas Story" in it's innocence and humor. Some of the best movies go unseen. Do not miss this on DVD, or VHS, for that matter.

Summary: Less than 5 stars? Inconceivable!
Review: I have loved 'The Princess Bride' for a VERY long time. It's so fun to watch & I get something new out of it every time. The special edition DVD was worth the wait. The 3 documentaries are gems & Rob Reiners commentary is interesting. I haven't watched all of Cary Elwes's vidoe diary but the bit I have watched was interesting. What a fun movie for all ages! Definiately worth the $!!

Summary: A story of true love, packed with adventure!
Review: Princess Buttercup has lost her true love who was captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts. After waiting, in hopes of her love being alive, she finally decided to accept the proposal of the prince to become his wife. Throughout the movie, the dashing man in black outfences a master swordsman, combats a giant, and outwits a very smart villian. Could this man in black be the Dread Pirate Roberts who hopes to capture the princess who has been kidnapped by the three men? Or could he be someone in search of true love? This is a great story with lots of humor and daring fights. I highly recommend this for a fun night at home.

Summary: All time classic for children and adults alike!
Review: I first saw this film when I was a wee lad. Amazed by the swordplay, love, and wonderful storyline I soon recognized "The Princess Bride" as playing a vital role on my top list of all-time favorites.

(P.s.) keep in mind, this is when I was a kid...

Then...... ohhhh then:

I watched the movie when I had a slightly corpulent sense of language humor. Little did I know that I was in for a treat.

Raw humor, unforgettable lines, and characters larger than myth all unite to create one of the all time greatest classics ever to be viewed by viewers like you!

You'll laugh.

You'll cry.

You may even be attacked by R.O.U.S.'s.

But,

YOU'LL NEVER FORGET THE DAY THAT YOU WATCHED "THE PRINCESS BRIDE"

Summary: As You Wish
Review: I saw this wonderful movie for an english topic at school.
The movie has 2 storylines-one in the "present and real world" and the other in a story book.
A child is sick. His grandfather starts to read him story to pass the time. You see the story come to life with a variety of things that all fantasy stories should have, including giants-Fezzik; Fencing-Inigo, Westley, Count Rugen; Torture-The Machine in the Pit of Despair; Revenge-that of Inigo's father; Bad men-Count Rugen, Prince Humperdink; Best men-Westley; Monsters-the rodents in the Fire Swamp and the eels in the sea; Chases-everyone pretty much chasing everyone else; Escapes-escaping from the Fire swamp, pit of despair; Miracles- Inigo's dead father guids Inigo's sword and Westley coming back alive several times; and of course...TRUE LOVE-that of Westley and Buttercup- a shy farm helper who says only the words "as you wish" and a girl who lives on the farm of her own.

This has several hidden meanings in eg "people in masks should not be trusted" means not only not to trust people in masks but not to trust people just by what they look like. and
"life is pain, your highness. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something" This means that life is painful and if people tell you otherwise they are lying or want something from you.

Cary Elwes also made it that little bit better with his accent, good looks and acting style.

The Princess Bride is a movie for all ages. It includes wit, suspense, love, sadness and will be loved by all.
Of my whole class of thirty, not one person disliked this film.

It is a must for any family who likes a good fantasy story.
Enjoy

Summary: One of my all-time Favorites
Review: I fell in love with this movie when it came out in 1987. After seeing this DVD, I have fallen in love all over again. This story tells the tale of several relationships: grandfather and grandson, friendship, and true love. Though it is titled "The Princess Bride," this movie doesn't just focus on Princess Buttercup. It tells the story of love (of family, friendship, and romance) in a humourous way while in the guise of the fairy tale. Every character in the movie brings a smile to your face and even in the face of danger you can not help but laugh at the antics of the cast. This is definitely a feel good movie for the whole family.

The DVD itself is filled with wonderful extras. The commentaries by Rob Reiner and William Goldman are gold. The documentaries and the featurettes pack this DVD so full of information. You can watch it again and again. This is definitely a 5 star DVD.
