Rating: Summary: Dazzling eye candy and lots of adventure. Review: Disney's latest animated feature is their strongest in-house effort since "The Lion King," but it's still bogged down by slavish obedience to the moneymaking formula used since 1989's "The Little Mermaid." "Tarzan" has a lot in its favor, first and foremost its dazzling visuals. The "Deep Canvas" technique here cleverly blends hand-drawn and computer-generated animation to lush, realistic effect. The character animation is often wonderful, especially the attention animator Glen Keane pays to Tarzan's ape-like movements. Standouts among the cast include Lance Henrikson and Glenn Close as Tarzan's adoptive simian parents, and scene-stealer Minnie Driver as a delightfully feisty Jane. Phil Collins' score and songs are compelling without being (too) sappy, and the well-staged action scenes will hold even jaded parents' interest. That said, Rosie O'Donnell's wisecracking ape is an exercise in pain, especially when she tries her hand at scat singing. Worse, the film's mustache-twirling villain has all the depth of the cel he was painted on. Too many of the jokes feel forced and unnatural, and of course, the ending is a foregone conclusion. If you want an animated film that challenges conventions and triumphs, buy the wonderful "The Iron Giant." But if you simply want a fun, occasionally moving adventure story that you can sit through with your kids, you'll find "Tarzan" a surprisingly good time.
Rating: Summary: FUN FOR THE FAMILY Review: THIS movie was excellent but lacking a somewhat potential in its story.the real problem is disneys storyriting by putting some ridiculous animals in this film, per say the elephant(dont know his name).phil collins great music made me like this movie so much, and the action in most parts of the film.recomended for the kiddies and maybe for people who like those movies.

Rating: Summary: *****Wow!****** Review: This is a great movie but its the kind that you can get a little tired of after a while. I didn't really care for Minnie Driver's voice for Jane Porter; it didn't fit somehow. And while the music in Trashin' the camp was differant from the rest of the soundtrack,it was refreshing and I thought it fit perfectly with the destruction of the camp. Phil Collins did a superb job with the music. I got goosebumps on several parts,he's that good. His singing voice just seems to fit with the wild jungle setting. All in all,a good movie.
Rating: Summary: Very cool film Review: This is both an amazing film and an outstanding DVD. I would love to see Disney continue on this track, and release more "Collector's Edition" sets. I am a big Tarzan fan, and I was blown over by Disney's adaptation. One of the best Tarzan films I have seen. All elements of the film are impressive. The "deep canvas" is beautiful, and the animation is fluid and alive. The character designs are perfect, and the story is a wonderful balance of dark drama and comedy. I love the expressive use of the characters hands. I even liked Rosie O'Donnell, which is very rare for me. I tend to find the comic relief characters annoying. Minnie Driver is outstanding as Jane. The DVD bonus features are great fun. This is the first time I have seen deleted scenes for an animated film. I also really enjoyed the evolution of the various character designs, and the explanation of the "deep canvas" process. If Disney keeps putting them out like this, I will keep buying.
Rating: Summary: Loin cloth? Review: Disney has made the story of Tarzan a classic cartoon. I LOVE this movie.
The previews at the beginning of the DVD "CAN" be fast forwarded,(Dont know what type of DVD player other reviewers have)I am able to skip over them and get to the movie-but all in all that is what is called ADVERTISING people!!! Movie previews are also on any VCR tapes you buy/have bought-why give a GREAT movie a bad review just because you have a cheezy dvd player and you can't get the dvd to fast forward???? GIMMIE A BREAK PEOPLE!!!!
This movie was packed full of action, tenderness, compassion and fun. The music is OUTRAGEOUS and makes you want to get up and dance along. I recommend it highly!!!!
Rating: Summary: Funny as ever Review: Minnie Driver's performance of Jane in Disney's 1999 hit Tarzan made the movie hilarious! Great film, great animation and great music = Great film!
Rating: Summary: good movie, great music, lame dvd treatment Review: I suppose we are meant to wait for Disney to give this a decent two-disc treatment. Right now there are few extras on the dvd (though the languages are rather amazing). The movie, the well-known tale from Edgar Rice Burroughs, is very well done, with terrific songs from Phil Collins, very nice voice work and delightful animation. There is some violence and four deaths, though they aren't bloody. Extras include a trivia game, a storybook version of the film with optional read-along, a Collins music video and a behind-the-scenes studio session with Collins. The film can be heard in English, Cantonese or Mandarin; and subtitles are available in English, Mandalay, Bahasa, Thai or Korean!
Rating: Summary: Great Fun - Kids and Adults Will Both Enjoy This Review: We own a lot (a LOT) of Disney animated DVDs, and our kids watch them often. Some (like Pocahontas and Hunchback of Notre Dame) get viewed once and then shelved because the music's crummy, the story's slow or dumb, and the kids just don't want to see them again. Tarzan, though, gets viewed again and again. Thank goodness it's a great, watchable story. Lots of action, wonderful job by Minnie Driver voicing Jane, pretty good Phil Collins music, all combine to make this an enjoyable watch. I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a good gift for young kids.
