Rating: Summary: Tarzan DVD Review: Very awesome! Buy the CE version! Review: When I purchased this DVD, it was more to give myself a chance to see if I want to continue buying Disney DVD's. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy an animated story about Tarzan. Now, finally after watching the movie, all I can say is that this movie is awesome! The colors are magnificent, the animation was definitely well done and the sound that will come out of your digital 5.1 system is great. This DVD rocks! You also get the special bonus features such as Phil Collins "Strangers Like Me" music video, "Trashin' the Camp" with Phil and `NSync, a Tarzan interactive read along and and Interactive trivia game plus a sneak peak at the movie "Dinosaur". I was so amazed this DVD had any extras. I hope there will be a re-release of the other Disney animated movies via Collector's Edition because in the past they never or hardly put extras on their DVD's. Now, I think I'm going to purchase the collector's edition DVD because although this DVD had many things to it, the collector's edition has over 250+ minutes of extras and this movie is very cool! WOW! I highly recommend this Disney animated film.
Rating: Summary: It's All About the Bonus Material Review: The DVD Collector's Edition of Tarzan is by far Disney's best attempt to package bonus material along with the feature. Disc two is a dream for collectors and wanna-be animators. I wasn't a huge fan of this film in the theaters but I found all the bonus material to be quite interesting and informative. The conceptual work done for this film was amazing and quite prolific. The explanantion of "deep canvasing" a technology created especially for this film is quite interesting to watch. The disc also includes much commentary from the various artists and designers who worked on the film as well as some proposed scenes that didn't make it to the big screen. Stills of character desings and concepts will keep you busy for some time. If you collect Disney DVD's or animation DVD's in general, this one is well worth it's price. Let's hope Disney continues this with future releases of Collector's Edition DVDs.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing outing from Disney Review: It's difficult to put a finger on it, but I was a little disappointed with this Disney offering. The sidekicks just aren't as entertaining as those in Hercules, the villain isn't as evil as in Pocahontas, the ambiance isn't as absorbing as in the Lion King, the songs aren't as catchy as the Little Mermaid .... the list goes on. It's just that this movie doesn't do anything really well, just a bunch of things okay, and so it adds up to only an okay movie. I would have to place it at the bottom of my list of Disney's offerings in the last few years. As for the DVD features, I can't complain about those! The howling during the interactive trivia game (to signify the right answer) got to be grating in a very short time (and yes, I played the entire game - most of it on mute), but still fun. And it's always nice to see videos and things like that. So for the extras, I'll give this a 4.
Rating: Summary: They just keep getting better! Review: this film is by far, the best Disney film, or any animated film, I have ever seen. Having always been a huge Disney fan I was losing interest when it released box office flops like Hercules and Mulan. However, Disney have more than made up for it with the newest edition to the animated classics. The mix of computer animation and original animation is breathtaking in parts, when Tarzan is swinging from vine to vine! We also immediately fall in love with all of the characters and their personalities. As if that wasn't enough,I was also impressed with the soundtrack too. Rather than having the characters randomly break into chorus like they did in their old films, Disney have opted for a more mature approach and hired Phil Collins to do the majority of the music. Impressive all round and this one (for once it's safe to say it!) is one for all the family that you can watch time and time again! You should definately be taking the magic home!
Rating: Summary: Guns, deaths, hangings-not a hot one for sensitive children Review: Guns, death, hangings...alright for Disney and America! OK, OK, I admit it was good for me, but my almost 3 year old cried about the momma, daddy, and gorilla's untimely (read: not suppose to happen this violently) death. I've always had a sensitive guy on my hands so if you do too then stay away! We are sticking to blue's clue's and sesame street! P.S. BOO FOR DISNEY FOR SHOWING A HANGING! YES, IT IS TRUE... WHEN CLAYTON DIES THERE IS A SHADOW OF HIS BODY HANGING FROM THE VINES ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF YOUR TV. CHECK IT OUT! NICE ENTERTAINMENT FOR OUR CHILDREN?
Rating: Summary: "Tarzan" continues in Disney's proud tradition. Review: "Tarzan" is not as good as Disney classics such as "The Lion King" or "Aladin" but it is a touching and entertaining expierence. The songs by Phil Collins were exceptional and he won the Academy Award for best original song ("You'll be in my Heart"). The voices of Tony Goldwyn, Rosie O'Donnell and Minnie Driver behind the excellent score proformed by Marc Mancini (Speed) make it worth seeing alone. The animation is stellar (isn't it always?) and the characters are lively. "Tarzan" is a movie treat for film lovers of all different ages.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: When this movie came out i thought it would be BAD! I saw it at school about 4 days ago. It was really GOOD! Everyone should see this! It keeps u wanting to watch it! I hope u rent or buy this GREAT video!
Rating: Summary: Ripping off "Lion King" & "Little Mermaid" Review: I collect Disney DVDs, so getting this was a given. However, when I watched it for the first time, I was so sad about how much of the content had been directly copied from the two classics, "Litlle Mermaid" and "Lion King", I lost interest. The story is predictable, as are most Disney tales; however, the presentation was a repeat of other movies with very little of the classic imagination tied so closely to Disney films.
Rating: Summary: Great Animation, Formulaic Story Review: TARZAN (1999) * * * What's good about it: incredible animation, great voice characterization by Minnie Driver. What's bad about it: generic music by Phil Collins, very distracting voice work by a tiresomely obnoxious Rosie O'Donnell. What's so-so about it: standard, formulaic Disney story which pretty much writes itself by now. The picture and sound on the dvd are tremendous!
Rating: Summary: Value for money....... Review: Wow. A simple equation: If you like animated films + you have kids = BUY TARZAN! Buy it even if you satisfy only one of the above! The movie is exactly what you'd expect from Walt Disney - watchable, entertaining and includes valuable lessons. Once you've watched the movie and feel satisfied that that was a couple of hours well spent, you can start looking forward to the extra features. And boy does this have extra features! Look forward to several more hours of learning about the making. After which you will find yourself wanting to watch the movie again! The only thing that can be improved in this movie is possibly the relationship beteen Tarzan and his (gorilla) father. This seemed to end unconcluded and did not carry enough depth/development/growth. But in the overall scheme of things - this is a very minor point. If you're a Walt Disney fan buy this. If you're not, give this a chance. Along with Lion King, it is Walt Disney's best in the last 5 years. I sincerely hope that Walt Disney will launch/re-launch all of its movies with this number of extra features.
