Summary: Magical DvD... beats out HP #1
Review: If you love Harry Potter, this is a fantastic DVD with lots of cool extras for true HP fans. The sound is great as you would expect, there is the widescreen feature(of course)... I only wish I had a full wall projecter. :o) There are 2 discs, with wonderful interviews with the principle actors, lots of neat additional info to checkout using the interactive screens which the kids will enjoy also... There is so much on these DVDs you will need to set aside an entire weekend to watch it all. You will also see a lot of stuff that did not appear in the movie like printable trading cards, games, puzzles, and places to explore... care to browse through some of the "other" shops in Diagon Alley?! Plus, the movie itself succeeds where HP1 fell a bit short... mainly in being exciting and engaging all the way through. Don't get me wrong, I love the Harry Potter books. And I thought the first movie did an OK job of bringing Harry to the big screen, but it didn't feel quite right. In HP1 the scenes seemed to start and stop, ultimately making the movie seem overly long and drug out. Fortunately for us HP2 is much better in this regard. DVD well worth the money!

Summary: Harry Potter's back and better than ever in "Chamber"!!
Review: About a couple of days ago, I managed to watch "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" at the movie theater. And let me just say that this second installment to last year's widely popular "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is twice as good and even better than the first film! You see, "The Sorcerer's Stone" was all about introduction and discovery, etc. But now, "The Chamber of Secrets" is when they jump right into the story (kind of like "Lord of the Rings"). "The Chamber of Secrets" has a lot more humor and about 10 times as much action than the first film! And the direction of Chris Columbus ("Home Alone 1 and 2", "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone") was excellent as always! The performances from the very talented young stars Daniel Radcliffe ("The Tailor of Panama", "The Sorcerer's Stone"), Rupert Grint ("The Sorcerer's Stone"), and Emma Watson ("The Sorcerer's Stone") were solid, commanding, and flawless in every way possible! The performances from veteran actors Richard Harris ("Unforgiven"), Robbie Coltrane ("Alice in Wonderland"), Alan Rickman ("Die Hard"), Kenneth Branagh ("Wild Wild West"), John Cleese (007: "Die Another Day"), Maggie Smith ("Gosford Park"), Julie Walters ("Billy Elliot"), and Jason Isaacs ("Black Hawk Down") were outstanding as well! This next chapter in author J.K. Rowling's beloved "Harry Potter" series follows the book with perfection all the way as the film focuses on Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Once again, Radcliffe plays Harry, whose infamous past (his parents were killed by the vile Lord Voldemort) makes him a celebrity student at Hogwarts. In "The Chamber of Secrets", Harry returns to the enchanted institution after a miserable summer vacation with his wretched Aunt Petunia (Fiona Shaw) and Uncle Vernon (Richard Griffiths). Hogwarts' Sophomore term is filled with more Quidditch (the rugby-on-broomsticks sport AND my favorite part of the movie), more sage instruction from kindly professor Albus Dumbledore (Harris), and more detention-baiting high jinks with giant gamekeeper Hagrid (Coltrane) and best friends Ron Weasley (Grint) and Hermione Granger (Watson). There are also some new characters that are introduced in "Chamber", including the foppish Gilderoy Lockhart (Branagh), Hogwarts' newest Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the ruthless Lucius Malfoy (Isaacs), father of the equally ruthless Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), Harry's arch-nemesis, and a little creature named Dobby, who warns Harry about the strange goings-on at Hogwarts and what would happen if Harry went back to Hogwarts for his second year. Strangely as it turns out, someone (or something) is turning Harry's classmates into statues. Is there a link between this rash of petrification and creepy alum Tom Riddle, who speaks to Harry via a talking diary? (Answer: No.) (Just kidding: Of COURSE there is!) The special effects of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" were just as mesmerizing as the the special effects of "The Sorcerer's Stone"! Especially the special effects that were used in both the Quidditch match between Harry and Malfoy, which was faster and a little more violent, and the scenes when Ron and Harry fly to Hogwarts in a supernaturally souped-up Ford Anglia! To me, it seems as though Daniel Radcliffe looked more actively heroic in "Chamber" and that the role of Harry Potter seems to have affected his look as he's gotten older and that he's starting to feel like a leading young man now. And that is what I liked about him and the "Potter" films (kind of reminded me of Haley Joel Osment in "The Sixth Sense" and "A.I."). In conclusion, I think that "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" was the most challenging, most entertaining family film that I've seen since "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"! In fact, just watching "The Chamber of Secrets" will leave me with a feeling of going back and watching the first film again, especially since "The Chamber of Secrets" has great performances from a top-notch cast, extraordinary special effects, laugh-out-loud humor, and a powerful storyline! I REALLY can't wait for the next "Harry Potter" film, "The Prisoner of Azkaban", to be released in theaters, nor can I wait to see what the inevitable 2-disc DVD of "The Chamber of Secrets" has to offer next year!

Review: "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" not only meets but far exceeds the standards set by its predecessor, 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." "Sorcerer's Stone" went on to be the biggest worldwide hit of 2001 (and of all time next to Titanic) due in large part to the popularity of J.K. Rowling's hit series of books that it was based on, but as a film it easily stood up on its own merits combining the right amount of action, eye candy FX, humor and "whodunit" mystery intrigue. "Chamber of Secrets" keeps the tradition going, and then some! THE STORY: "Chamber of Secrets" is the adaptation of J.K. Rowling's second book in the landmark Harry Potter series, the story of a boy wizard who through a twist of fate is locked in mortal combat with an evil wizard. The series follows his (and his buddies Ron and Hermione's) (mis)adventures as they progress through 7 years of study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Chamber of Secrets chronicles their adventures during their 2nd year at school where Harry becomes the prime suspect in a string of deadly attacks against his fellow classmates as the mysterious Chamber of Secrets has been opened. What exactly is the "Chamber of Secrets" and if it wasn't Harry who opened it, who did? THE COOL THINGS: All the stunning visual eye candy from "Sorcerer's Stone" is back, bigger and badder than ever! The world of Hogwarts is once again depicted just as grand as before, if not more so. For fans of the first movie the revamped Quidditch scene will hit you harder than before like a psychotic Bludger. Also, the addition of the new "wizard duel" scene will strike you just as hard as any of the Lightsaber battles of Star Wars fame. Overall, if you're an FX freak you'll love CoS as much as SS, if not more. The actor's performances in this film are just brilliant. Rupert Grint's Ron Weasley and Kenneth Branagh's Gilderoy Lockheart as well as the Jason Isaac's Lucius Malfoy and Dobby the House Elf easily steal the show and bring Rowling's depictions to life just as you'd imagine it. BEST SCENES: -Wizards duel -Quidditch Match -Flying car -Harry vs. The "Secret" in the Chamber THE ADAPTATION: Fans of the books will once again (or at least should) be pleased with this very true and near perfect translation of book to silver screen. Like the first movie, very little was changed from the book with just a few "minor" deletions of scenes or "rearrangements" from the book. Once again, as movie adaptations of books go, the Harry Potter movies are almost as perfect as you'll get. WARNINGS: Readers of the books should know what kinds of things to watch out for in this one. For the somewhat squeamish there are scenes with slugs, spiders, giant snakes and a few other things that may upset you that you'll want to look out for or be mindful of if you are bringing very young children. THE VERDICT: Overall, once again, if you are a fan of the series (or even if you are not), "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" should easily top the list of movies you should definitely see. Fans of the book will appreciate seeing everything come to life and fans of great movies will marvel at all the action, humor and visual eye candy this one has to offer. Can't wait for the "Prisoner of Azkaban" movie and the Chamber of Secrets DVD. Highest Recommendation. (Like you didn't know...)

Review: When one reads the second book in a series, one expects that it will not be as good as the first. Rowling's second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, broke with that negative tradition, managing to maintain the same level of storytelling as in the first. Too bad the same can't be said of the movie. By now, anyone interested in the Harry Potter phenomenon knows the story of his second year at Hogwarts. Most were eager to see that story on the screen. The actors were all there: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Richard Harris, Emma Watson, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane, and Kenneth Branagh was added. The performances were good, but so were the special effects, which sometimes streteched on endlessly. Somehow, the story got lost between the chase scene -- Harry and Draco Malfoy pursuing the Golden Snitch while a rogue bludger tries to hit Harry -- and Harry's fight with the Basilisk. Gone are the feelings of Hogwarts and the passage of time. The depth of suspicion most students felt against Harry just doesn't come across. It's a good movie, standing on its own, and seemingly made with only children in mind. Unfortuantely, those of us who have read the book were disappointed. And yet, you would have had to read the book to understand much of what was going on. If there is to be a third movie, we can only hope that the director realizes that too many of us know the story, and that's what has made the books sell so well, to children as well as adults.

Summary: Time For Harry to Get the Lead Out
Review: More like 3.5 stars. Time for Harry to put up or shut up and show us what he's got. These soulless carbon copies of the books won't do. Technically excellent and well acted but there seems to be very little joy in the making. As if they are far too concerned that they'll miss a detail from the source. Sorcerer's Stone is avery promising start and Prisoner of Azkaban is the best and most mature of the three.

Review: I love the HP books soo much and when the movies came out for them I was really exicited! I can't wait to see the Prizoner of Azkaban! I hope J.k Rowling continues writing more books and I plead for more Harry Potter movies to come out because I'm in love with Daniel Radcliffe and the story.And if your wondering, yes I am overly obsessive lol!I don't see how any one could hate the story, unless you are really boring!
