Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Prince of Liars
Review: An interesting play on the life of fabled Liar, with many surprise guest appearances (like Robin Williams and Uma Thurman). Seemingly thrown together, but actually has great attention to detail, as is consistent with Gilliam's films.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must see for Gilliam fans.
Review: An amazing visual feast, and wildly imaginative ride, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is rumored to be the final installment of a "life" themed trilogy by Terry Gilliam. The supposed trilogy would begin with Time Bandits (childhood), continue with Brazil (mid-life) and finish with Baron Munchausen (old age). Whether or not the film is viewed in such light is unimportant however, as it stands on its own as a brilliantly imagined film, and an engaging journey through the ever-changing memories of a legendary figure.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent, high brows film that is the last in a triology
Review: This is a film that works on two or more levels, one for children and one fot adults. This is the third in a triology. The first is Time Bandits (1982). The hero here is a young boy, The next is Brazil (1985). In this Orwellian society, the hero is a disillusioned young man. And in the flim under review, the hero is an old man. Buy all three films, even if the theme is juxtaposed- like Slaugtherhouse-Five. You will enjoy them and find wonder in them as well.

Summary: Weird charmer
Review: This Terry Gilliam extravaganza has one of the cinematographically best final minutes (and final ten seconds) I've ever seen. Colorful and amusing throughout.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: This was entertainment?
Review: If I could give this no stars then I would. It was utter rubbish from start to end. Although I have liked Terry Gilliams work this has to be the biggest waste of time ever.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: BEST demo of surround sound
Review: The Baron, besides being fabulously funny and well done, is probably the BEST demo of surround sound in the history of surround sound. While other action adventure movies saturate high decible output, the Baron has whispers and explosions, left right center and behind. Actually, I haven't heard the DVD, but I'm sure it's as good as the S-VHS (probably better). Let's hope the DVD is again produced.

Summary: It made me cry
Review: Only this and It's A Wonderful Life (OK, maybe E.T. when I was 12, but I did my brave best to hide it) have ever done that.

It takes the story-telling capacity of movies to its limit. A Wizard of Oz for the late 20th century. Rent it, buy it, steal it, whatever--just as long as you watch it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Definately worth watching
Review: The movie is a bit strange, but worth seeing. Very entertaining, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen are decidedly on a scale with the Neverending Story.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Blurring the line b/w fantasy and reality, it's engrossing!
Review: Writing: the characters are actually *developed*, the dialogue is meaningful and fun

Acting: Excellent cast who enjoy their roles, but aren't all overexposed in the media today.

Screenplay: seamless melding of special effects and action makes the whole thing really work. Some of the sets and ideas are just fantastic.

This story had a lot of deep meaning for me b/c the plot centers around the reality created by storytelling. One is never sure where the story ends and where the hardships of life begin, or visa-versa.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: definately no "casual" viewers
Review: This film is very entertaining and intense. If you are willing to commit it can envelope you into a fabulous fantasy world of beauty and wonder. It is as tantalizing and curious as Fantasia and The Neverending Story. And the effects are excellent!
