Summary: Astonishing! Ben Kingsley at his best
Review: Chess isn't my favroite hobby but I still found this movie to be one of the best dramas. I found the characters to be very real. They seemed to jump out of the screen. I definitely reccomend it for chess players.

Review: It's about a boy that was really good at chess but nobody knew.One day he and his mom were walking in the park. There were some guies there that charged five dollars for someone to play them. When he played the best guy there they knew that he had real talent so they started giving him lessons. When he got home he played with his dad. He held back from beating him at first but after a while he didn't mind so he beat him all the time.After his dad found out how good he was he got him an expert teacher. After he had been teaching him for a while and taught himwhat he needed to know, he entered many tournaments. He won them all until he went to the biggest tournament of them all. When he got to that tournament, he had to play a kid that he didn't think he could beat but he did.

Summary: Really quite wonderful.
Review: A tale of a child chess prodigy (supposedly based on a true story), and the effects his brilliance has on his father, and in turn, the pressure the father unwittingly shoulders upon his son. Applicable in most any situation where a family raises a gifted child (would be just as effective if it were about gifted musician or Olympic athelete), this touching film hits the bullseye without ever being soapy or preachy. With a fine cast and rich performances, "Searching for Bobby Fisher" is a real 'find'. For those who missed it in the theater (probably most of the population), do yourself and your family a favor and pick up the video. Between 1 and 10, "Searching for Bobby Fisher" gets a marginal 9.

Review: Wonderful movie! Every parent who has a child that participates in any competitive activity needs to see this film. Substitute soccer or baseball for chess in this film and you can see yourself. Stellar cast with great turns by Fishburn and young Max. One of the best movies to watch with your kids.

Review: I would rate this amongst the best sports films ever made. It exposes the difficult balance between competeing for pleasure and the maintenance of being considered the best.Superb casting. Laurence Fishburn and Ben Kinglsey stand out as the chess teachers who develop their pupil's instinct and strategic prowess. Great dramatic tension between the two. The young boy who stars as Josh does a terrific job of communicating his every thought with facial expressions.

Review: "Searching for Bobby Fischer" is more than just another chess movie. This film is about the bonds of love between a son and his parents, and how some things in life can weaken that bond. While the movie brings to life the little known aspects of chess tournaments, its main theme is that of proper parenting. The actors do an excellent job of portraying their real life counterparts. I highly recommend this movie to everyone, not just chess players, but parents as well. The lessons learned here are universal.

Review: You don't have to like chess to love this movie! Based on a true story, the characters of this family drama have a realism which draws you back to this movie, time and time again. This is a great family flick, and you can't help but cheer on the characters as they learn about this child's special gift. Uplifting, great production, and a must own movie.

Review: Awful film that is totally pretentious. I mean this rich parents are SO New York its disgusting. Nothing but the best for their kid. First of all as of today Josh is not even rated in the top 2000 players in the world and Judit Polgar can kick his butt all over the chessboard. But the scenes in this film are God-awful and ben kingsley acts like Ghandi in this one- like hes reprising his Ghandi role here with that bull accent of his. Pass on this mess of a film thats so bad even cable wont show it anymore.

Summary: A Great Movie!
Review: This is one of my all time favorite films. It is about a chess playing kid who went on to win numerous national chess championships. It really doesn't have much to do with Bobby Fischer himself (except for some occasional film clips). But the growth and struggle of this kid and both the pressure and support he gets from his father makes this a great film to learn from.
