Summary: Movie confusion
Review: First off, I did enjoy this movie. It veers from the books much more than Anne of Green Gables did, but it was still enjoyable. However, Anne of Green Gables-the Sequel is not the third installment, as the reviews on here indicate, it is the second; on VHS it was titled Anne of Avonlea. This movie covers the period when Anne leaves Prince Edward Island to teach school and ends with her and Gilbert finally getting engaged. The heinous third installment, when everyone enters the twilight zone and time-warps to WW1, is titled Anne of Green Gables-the Continuing Story. (I don't recommend it--can you tell?)

Summary: Anne of Avonlea
Review: I am surprised at how many reviews I have read which are confused about this plot. In "Anne of Avonlea", Anne is hired to be a teacher in an all girl school. Her bossom friend Diana is engaged and gets married to Fred. I love how each character had his/her own uniqueness. In this movie Gilbert proposes to Anne twice!(you'll see) I absolutely love this!

Summary: THIS IS AWESOME!
Review: I don't know why so many negativity on this installment, it's a classic. I love watching during the holidays, it's superb in direction and nobody can play "Marilla" as Coleen Dewhurst and Megan Follows will always be "Anne". It's full of romance and humor. You won't be disappointed!

Summary: THIS IS NOT ANNE OF GREEN GABLES THE CONTINUING STORY!!!
Review: I don't want to seem disrespectful but this is not Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story which so many reviewers seem to think but is Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel. Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel which is the Canadian title to what Americans call Anne of Avonlea is wonderous and is not the same as the newest Anne movie Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story!

Summary: How depressing!
Review: I grew up loving the first two movies so I was very excited when I heard about the third installment. After watching it, however, I was aghast! How completely horrible. The storyline is depressing and contrived. It was very predictable and second rate. I can't imagine the author Lucy Maud Montgomery ever conjuring up such a depressing storyline. She would turn over in her grave!

Summary: One of the greatest movies for girls
Review: I have loved this movie for over 10 years. Though Kevin Sullivan takes some liberties with LM Montgomery's books, he generally stays true to the general plot and feeling (not something that can be said for part 3!). A movie that can cheer me up any day!

Review: I love Anne of Green Gables the Sequel (actually Anne of Avonlea). Megan Follows did a great job as Anne Shirley the temperamental redhead who aspires to be a teacher and writer. The movie itself is one of my all-time favorites and if you want it on DVD, it's worth it to get it.

That said, the transfer is one of the poorest I've laid eyes on. It comes in only a 2.0 soundtrack, doesn't even make a virtual center channel or subwoofer like other 2.0 DVDs do and the picture is a bit grainy and I detect a pulsing in the background. Also it's in fullscreen pan and scan format instead of anamorphic which reduces the resolution to about that of a VHS. That said, it does have a good menu with extras including some deleted scenes.

Overall, if you're looking to get it on DVD go ahead and get it, but don't expect great DVD quality.

Summary: Like waking up on Christmas to find you have gotten socks...
Review: I remember finding an Anne of Green Gables website, and reading that a third movie was coming out. I was extremely thrilled. I knew that the third movie would not be based on the books, but I had loved the first two movies so much, that I was sure the third movie would be wonderful.

I waited for months and months for the movie to complete filming, then several more months for it to be played in the States. It was shown in June of last year (I believe) on a public broadcasting station.

I came away from watching the movie feeling very flat. There was nothing charming about the movie. Of course, it was about the WWI time period, but the story line seemed like a soap-opera-meets-a-one-hour-television-war-drama.

I thought I might purchase the movie anyway, because I have the other two on video tape, but I will probably wait until I spot someone selling a copy for (dollar amount).

Summary: This is the 2nd Movie and it is A+
Review: I see some people honestly made the mistake that this is the third movie it is not, it is the second movie. Please dont mistake this for a bad movie. If you loved the first Anne movie you will love this second one just as much. Megan Follows is the perfect Anne and she captured the character in everyway. Although this movie does differ in some aspects from the book(s) it is just as wonderful. You will love how Anne goes to Queens College, becomes a teacher, and how Anne finally realised Gilbert is the one for her. The other characters of Gilbert, Marilla, Mathew, Rachel and Diana are equally as wonderful and as endearing as Anne! This is the perfect family movie. My daughter loves it and so does my husband. It is a classic!
