Summary: Faithful to Dickens' vision
Review: A beautiful adaptation of Dickens' best known work. Beautifully shot and subtly acted, this version is terribly underrated. Probably the most faithful to the original novel. Every generation has its own "Christmas Carol" and for me it was this. Scott and Rees (best known as Robin Colcourt from "Cheers") are wonderful!

Summary: A Special Treat at Christmas for the Whole Family
Review: After reading the original, the then currently available movie versions of this classic were, in my humble opinion, sadly lacking. Then I got one of the best Christmas presents ever, a new release of 'A Christmas Carol' starring none other than George C. Scott. I immediately felt his interpretation of the Dicken's character was much more 'real' than any other I had seen, plus, the supporting cast, cinematography, direction and sets were absolutely first class. What a special treat for anyone who loved the book. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time without question.

Summary: A Christmas Carol - w/ George C. Scott
Review: For many many years I have been a fan of A Christmas Carol. For most of these many many years the version starring Reginald Owen was my favorite. O.K., so my real favorite was the Mr. Magoo version - but who wants to admit that in public? After viewing George C. Scott as Scrooge, I cannot envision anyone else as Scrooge. Sorry Reginald!

Summary: The Best Version Ever Made
Review: There are many versions of A Christmas Carol. While the rest leave me looking at a "movie" about as real as a cheap stage set, this one pulls me in. It's real, lush and very human. I leave moved every time (and I've seen it many times!). It is THE CLASSIC version against which the rest are measured.

Summary: The Best
Review: I was nine or ten years old the year this was on television; my family has watched it faithfully every Christmas since then. Our taped copy of this classic film got grainier and grainier as the years passed, but thankfully, it is now available for purchase and is a must buy. Not word-for-word Dickens, but pretty close, and Scott is the definitive Scrooge. I hope to be watching this film with my children for years to come.

Summary: A wonderful movie
Review: The 1984 version of A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott was by far my favorite version of all. It had solid acting and was probably the one that most kept my attention, even in the 1811 scenes. It is a wonderful story by Charles Dickens and in 1984 they made this a pretty wonderful movie.

Summary: the best filmed version ever done
Review: The name of George C Scott drew me to watch this version of A Christmas Carol, and I was not disappointed. Rather than the Hollywood sentimentality and blandness of previous versions this one was realistic, gritty and highly believable that even Victorians would have lauded. I agree with one of the other reviews that Scott's Scrooge fought redemption in the same way any anti-hero in the modern world might; the ghost scenes are excellent, and the other actors and actresses portrayed their characters well although David Warner was a little insipid. Overall this is an excellent film which I recommend for all ages.

Summary: The best adaptation of Dicken's tale
Review: In my opinion, this is the best adaptation of Dicken's A Christmas Carol. George C. Scott is the perfect Scrooge, and this is a movie for all ages. The slight deviations from the story are necessary to bring it to film, and I think it even enhances the story line. The ending always brings moist eyes, and the story is so refreshing. This is the best Christmas movie ever made.

Summary: Superb
Review: This is the best and most faithful film adaption of this classic story I've ever seen. It's about time someone gave it the "Masterpiece Theater" treatment of fine actors, screenplay, and photography. Sure to tug at the heart and make you glad in the end.

Summary: The best Christmas Carol ofall
Review: The finest adaptation I have ever seen of the ageless Christmas Carol. George C Scott gives one of the best performances of this career and the faithfulness to the Dickens short novel makes this a classic to watch every holiday season!
