Summary: Great video and sound effect! Also the greatest story!
Review: This movie is attracting me for a long time ago, I brought the LD for DTS version, DVD for Dolby Digital AC-3 version. Finally, The dts DVD launch! It's truly worth you to buy it! The true story and greatest actors make this movie more realist!

If you do have dts theater audio equipment, you never miss this movie in your collection list!

Summary: Deja Vu
Review: Remember vividly being glued to TV during this event. Movie elicited same heart stopping tension even though knew the ending. From my perspective this seems to be one of the few movies retelling recent historic events that is accurate. All players really seemed to get into the swing and of course enjoyed seeing my favorite actor Gary Sinise as Ken Mattingly.

Summary: For Audiophiles: The DTS is worth the Money
Review: Everyone knows that Apollo 13 is a well written and directed movie (Ronny Howard). What everyone may not know is that the DTS audio track transfer from the Video master to the DVD is excellent. With nice speakers and a subwoofer, DTS makes this movie worth the price. AC-3, having to compress the audio more than DTS on the DVD disc, the Dolby Digital just doesn't sound as good. Period. The rumbles of the lift-off are clean and tight - they are not just a low "buzz" or vibration. The high's in the dialog are much crisper and give the audience the sense they are sitting right there next to Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon. DTS does a much better job with the surround channels as well. What moves around the rear with AC-3 Dolby Digital, REALLY moves around the room with DTS. Transitions are smoother and the sound "flows" around you. The one problem? The cheapest DTS decoder (needed to watch DTS DVD's) is a Technics for 300 bucks. I say that the DTS decoder and the DTS movies by Amazon are well worth the money for even the small home theater guru.

Summary: Absolutely, totally, completely UNMISSABLE!
Review: Oscars all round for the cast.

I knew how it ended but that didn't, and still doesn't, stop me gripping the edge of my seat.

A true story that has your heart in your mouth everytime you watch it.

Especially deserving of praise is Kathleen Quinlan who played Marylin Lovel. The emotion she put into her acting could make you almost believe her husband was really lost in space.

If I have any complaint it would be that the technical references aren't explained (I only found out recently that PTC stands for Passive Thermal Control), but that doesn't detract from the film to any great degree.

It is unfortunate that they had to leave so much out when they made the book into the film, but if they had included everything it would have doubled the length.

In short, if you haven't seen it, watch it soon, if you have seen it, watch it again. You will never grow tired of this movie.

Oh, by the way, buy a spare copy for when you wear the first one out through watching it so much.

Summary: An extraordinary recreation of the Apollo 13 disaster
Review: Apollo 13 **** out of **** Apollo 13 is one of the greatest movies of all time. It is a brilliant, extremely compelling account of the disasterous Apollo 13 mission in 1970. This movie is many things at once, a special effects extravaganza, an action movie, a terrific drama, a space movie, and a comedy. It is wonderful in each of it's genres. I don't think you could combine all of these elements better than the writers of Apollo 13. This film focuses primarily on Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks). Lovell had already been on several other missions into space, but this mission was going to be his first time for landing on the moon, a life long dream of his. This film shows hims working at NASA. It deals with his reaction when he recieves his assignment, and his preparation for the flight. We meet his wife (Kathleen Quinlan), and his two daughters as well. We feel we really get to know them, even though they are relatively minor characters in this stunning movie. The movie deals with the two other members of the team as well, though not as much as Lovell. There is Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), and Jack Swiegert (Kevin Bacon), a last minute replacement for Ken Mattingly (Gary Sinese). This film is able to find enough time to focus a great amount on the relationship between the astronauts, as well as showing us there entire trip in space. As many people know, while in space an oxygen tank exploded on the spaceship. The oxygen for the crew was running out, and they would have limited time to live. If not for the heroic efforts of the ground crew, led by Gene Kranz (Ed Harris, at the top of his craft), and the calm unpanicky attitude of the heroic astronauts, who knows what would have happened. Together, mission control and the astronauts do their best to bring the crew home, while the rest of the world waits, and prays. The tremendous acting by this film's all star cast is just another one of the flawless aspects of the film. Led by Tom Hanks, each cast member gives an extraordinary, deeply felt performance. Bacon, Paxton, Hanks, and Sinese are all wonderful, but the two stand out performances in this film are by Ed Harris as Gene Kranz, and Kathleen Quinlan as Marilyn Lovell. The actors in this film give performances above and beyond what we would expect. Apollo 13 is an extraordinary movie. It is remarkably well done, with magnificent acting, directing, writing, cinematography etc. This is a flawless movie, something very few movies are. There is not one thing I would come close to changing, not one line, not one aspect of any of the performances. This is a landmark achievement. It is beats The Right Stuff, as the best space movie Hollywood has ever produced, although not by much. What an extraordinary epic production this movie is. This is film is something very few movies are, perfect.
