Summary: The Lion ROXX!
Review: The movie is alomost identical to the book. I saw the movie and then read the book a few years ago, and recently I had to read the book again for a book report and I relized how identical the book was to the movie. Only the bad thing about the movie is a little poor acting, 2 dimensinal cartoons, and awful, awful costumes for the beavers and the wolf Maugrim.

LONG LIVE ASLAN!

Summary: As close as it gets
Review: This film version of Lewis's classic tale remains very true to the book and is very well done. I do recommend that you read the book in order to truly appreciate the story. By the way,the music at the beginning is so beautiful that it makes me cry!

Summary: An okay film due to its low budget
Review: This film was obviously a low budget production, as you can see it through the costumes of the animals, the set designs, and special effects. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a child, and continue to read them today. One of my favourite things is to cuddle up with my girlfriend and read these in bed, but when we saw this film, we were shocked.

The girl who plays Lucy would have made C.S. turn in his grave. She is ugly, buck-toothed, and fat. She has these horrible facial expressions that just don't make you filled with sympathy when she is hurt. We're talking about Lucy, the one that C.S. Lewis dedicated this book to- his granddaughter!

The entire movie is a deep comedy. The acting on a whole is pretty poor. I agree with one reviewer's comment that Edmund looks older than Peter. And Peter looks so feminine. This is the HIGH KING? Susan is supposed to have "raven hair." This means that her hair is supposed to be dark, yet she is played by a blonde in the movie.
It seems as if the kids were plucked from the nearest grade school and suckered in with lollipops.
The Professor's home looks nothing like it is described in the book. We can give this some slack because it is hard to find such a house in the English countryside. this is one of the few inaccuracies of the film.

Obviously the effects are pretty poor as others have said. They almost make the film rather comical, and we tend to overlook the seriousness of the events because the effects are rather poor.

I will give this movie though a few positives. It is pretty accurate with the book, both in dialogue and sequences of the film. There is some beautiful English countryside in the film. The producers made-do with what they had, and the film shows that while it was cheaply made, it's pretty decent shot at production.

These positives shouldn't outweigh the negatives of this film, as there are a lot, but all in all, it is a pretty good attempt at producing a film that was neigh-impossible to pull off as excellent at that time.

I have a fault with several of the reviews made on this movie, because many were basing the greatness of this film on the book's greatness, which of course is NOT the purpose of a film review. Others are inquiring as to how they can find this film? Why are you posting on a review?! For those that want to review the animated film, go review that one!

There is a difference in making a film, going with what you had. The problem with making such an outlandish project is tha tyou need a massive budget. Independent films survive b/c they don't rely on such massive visions.

Summary: Bad...Real..Bad.
Review: This movie does not capture the feelings of the original book. Do yourself a favor, read the book before watching this crud knockoff!

Summary: Total disappointment
Review: This movie was amazingly [dull]. I can't believe all the good reviews it got. Maybe we were watching different movies? The costumes and makeup were really bad. The acting was overdone or underdone, but never believable. Even my kids agreed it was pretty bad. I love the books and I enjoy Christian themes. But just because I want something with a religious theme doesn't mean I'll settle for something bad just because it includes some Christian allegory. Do yourself a favor and just read the book.

Summary: GIVE THIS SOME SLACK
Review: This movie was made almost 20 years ago. Those of you people who do not think that this is high quality that is why! This is a enchating story and i have watched it from age 7. Those of you people who want high quality special effects there is a new series coming out this year (2005) so i recomend you see that. I hope that they finish the series off. The last one did not have the horse and his boy, the magicians nephew, or the last battle. Anyways give the movie some slack it had a crappy budget and tells the story amazingly well.

Summary: Bad Beginning....
Review: This no-budget production from the BBC fails to live up to the production values of films made 100 years ago. Shoddy production design offers us absurd anthropromorphic animals of the stage-horse variety. The problem is not the budget - I offer the example of John Coates's "The Snowman", which opens with a simple shot of a man entering a wintry wood overlaid with a voiceover, all you need to create an atmosphere of impending enchantment. Instead, the producers foolishly try to emulate Hollywood-style visual effects on a shoestring budget. The results are depressing. The truth is, even with a huge budget, no one involved with the design and execution of this telefilm would be capable of creating a memorable visual.

The 4 children playing the leads are chubby and indolent looking. They consistently seem to be blissfully unaware of the fact that they are being filmed - were they chosen randomly from the nearest grade school? Aslan is a lifeless animatronic head which rasps out his lines via poorly synched voice over.

However, the first 30 minutes or so are wonderful, the minimally made up Mr. Tumnus the clear highlight. The score is very good, from the same composer who scored the deservedly praised BBC "Brideshead Revisited". The text of the telefilm is also very accurate to the text and Christian religious themes of the novel by CS Lewis.

This series gets better with each outing though: "Prince Caspian" ekes its head a little beyond its predecessor, "Dawn Treader" surpasses both by leaps and bounds and finally "The Silver Chair" carries itself with considerable aplomb and charm, despite some very poor designs and effects.

Overall, a decent warm up for the curious before the real thing hits cinemas Christmas 2005.

Summary: True to the book
Review: Very few films stay true to the book upon which they are based. This is one of them. It's a wonderful film for the whole family.
